Actually, yeah, this is probably going to be a long and boring explanation, and I'm probably going to skim it and miss like 100% of the humor and important implications.

Man, whoever said that the feel has changed since the early story (pre Act 5) is definitely right. I'm not sure if it's shifted for better or for worse, but I'm not feeling the story as much now.

This part of the story feels like the game Jenga.
Like we're slowly having blocks pulled out, the tension starts out really low, but eventually...
CRASH! The climax happens and the tower falls.
That's when we know everything and have to build the tower again.

I dunno if this metaphor works. I kinda like it anyway.

TLDR: This is all stuff we don't care about yet. Very low tension.

But this is info on the pre-scratch trolls! How is that not awesome?

At the moment there is simply an implied conversation that we don't know if we care about because it hasn't happened yet.
Also we don't know how the information will affect the rest of the story yet.
So we don't know if it will be awesome or not.

In fact, because it's Hussie telling the story, it's to the readers advantage to at least try to distance themselves from narrative.
As Hussie has a tendency to not pull his emotional punches.
Readers who are aware of this have probably developed defense mechanisms so that the story won't hurt them too much.
Such as nor being excited or hyped up at implications of new information.

But that's all meta and I'm taking your comment too seriously. lol

The only thing I'm not liking about this update is we haven't actually seen anything, because the spotlit characters spaced out instead of payed attention.

I can't even touch the story.  It feels inhuman and gross.

Only 1/3 of the introduced main characters are human. Actually probably less. In any case, that is to be expected.

That wasn't what you meant though, was it?

The Homestuck Universe is fucking close to Hell.
Its Inhabitants have no individual freedom, since their actions are not only predestinated (which in itself arguably invalidates free will-or not) but forced unto them by the Alpha-timeline. Every attempt to break out of the destinated path only makes it happen and-in the most cases- kills you, your friends and your timeline, until no spectators are left.

While Homestuck's definition of omnipotence is lackluster, the beings described as such(1st Guardians, LE) are far beyond the reach of mortals, yet perfectly willing to manipulate or sacrifice their dependants. It's basically Lovecraftian (and we know that Hussie is at the very least a fan of softcore-Lovecraftian mythos).

The Narrator, all-knowing by his own words, is cynic and useless in an unnerving random way.
The Heroes of our story are human only in upbringing. They are a paradox, life created out of nothing, randomly taking human form. As far as we know. they are carefully isolated from society- if such a thing even exists in HS- alone with their internet friends and a parent with varying competence. It's no wonder that Earth's annihilation has barely affected them.

Humanity has been destroyed a second time, their antagonists are ready and overpowered and even if the kids kill them, would it be any achievement? Could it be any achievement, if the timeline demands it? If it doesn't recompensate for 413 years of genocide? Severals millenia, if you count the troll-universe?

The only major forces of Good in this world are the Rule Of Cool and Rule Of Funny, to use tvtropes-slang. And the trickster they call Mood Whiplash dances and sings on the debris.

You explained clearly what I have been thinking, Liber Celi.  It's really a pretty disturbing existence.  I can see why Rose tried to break it (possibly remaining on the alpha timeline due to rule of cool).

Oh, and updoot.  A neat twist that seems obvious in hindsight, the Hussie way.

Note that the ULTIMATE BAD GUY du jour has been stated several times to be immortal, and can supposedly only be harmed by glitches in space-time. If the kids are to beat him, they must literally break time. Predestination might seem like a powerful force, but I don't think it's going to have much of an effect on the Endgame.

(Interestingly, all the other bad guys were created by the kids themselves. Jack Noir was only able to kill the Queen because of Jade's bunny. And the universe only forced that to happen because Karkat neglected his frog breeding. And the Condesce is the result of Meenah &co scratching their session, in the progress apparently fulfilling several wishes of varying egoism and destructive potential. And the Condesce only became an active character in the human universe after the humans scratched their session. I guess the lesson here is that literal deals with the devil sometimes come with a cost.)

I'd argue that the setting still has hope. Unlike in Lovecraft's doomed universe of chaos and despair, Mere mortals can make a difference. Cthulhu isn't unkillable, he just gets his health reset to full every second, and if you can do five thousand damage in a single attack, he will die. Based on his encounters with Aradia and Vriska, Bec Noir probably could have been taken down by a couple god-tiered players with powerful elements. Vriska was also able to cheat the omniscient Doc Scratch for a time. And now she's about to knock the trombone out of the doorway and bust out of the realm of the dead. Earth may have died twice, but that doesn't mean the bad guys have won.

You've convinced me Soadreqm.
I throw off my cloak of despair and wear my hope on my sleeve once more.

Maybe there will be a happy ending!

Keep in mind, that in Homestuck, the aspect of Hope itself is personified by this chucklefuck.

This being Homestuck, I'm not sure whether that's post-scratch Rose or Vriska with a wig.
