If we could vote, I'd vote for Dirk yeah.
What I expect to happen is Jake and Jane being in charge of the story soon, assisted by Dirk and, last, Roxy.

Jake would be a perfect unconventional love interest (and was set up as one ever since his introduction), but the fact that he's meeting the alpha kids and ancestors suggests he's also going to be the main plot mover. 

Dirk seems committed to informing/guiding(/seducing) Jake, though he is getting shit done on Derse.  He's doing all he can while living in the wrecked future.

Roxy's void powers and windows are going to be really important, but she's being very passive.  This may change if she sobers up (heh, I really want to see that now).  Her windows are a way for her to get involved in the dreambubble happenings.

Jane, so far, has been a John-style derp but without John's powers of friendship and trust.  She's in the best position to strike at the batterwitch, but so far she lacks character development.  I'm sure it'll happen though.  (in the meantime I kinda don't like her)

Its Inhabitants have no individual freedom, since their actions are not only predestinated (which in itself arguably invalidates free will-or not) but forced unto them by the Alpha-timeline. Every attempt to break out of the destinated path only makes it happen and-in the most cases- kills you, your friends and your timeline, until no spectators are left.

Kinda nitpicking here but this isn't completely true according to Aranea.

AG: Reality itself is using you and many others to propagate its own existence. Strictly speaking, there is only one path to its successful propagation. 8ut it still permits you to make choices. Not all that are conceiva8le, 8ut some nevertheless, as dictated 8y who you are and the challenges you face. And you are free to make key decisions however you like, as long as you understand that some of these paths unfairly or not will lead to o8livion. 8ecause those choices do not contri8ute constructively to the perpetuation of all existence, including your own.

The fates of those involved in the game are mainly predestined, though they are allowed to make some choices. And she implies that those not involved in the game do not suffer from predestination, but they really don't have any impact on reality. Which is kinda horrific itself. You are either one of reality's tools and used to ensure that reality continues to propagate, and your free will is largely pointless because any timeline where you don't do what reality wants is doomed to be destroyed. Or you don't suffer from predestination because you cannot impact reality in any meaningful way, so you are too unimportant and insignificant for it to bother.

Wow, if Homestuck wasn't so silly, it would probably be very depressing.

EDIT: Now that I've read the update, I feel my word choice was oddly appropriate. And now I'm questioning if what we're seeing is the REAL purpose of a TUMOR. When Scratch isn't getting involved and all; to off the players and let them "live" through the Scratch.

I think a tumor is present in every session not ultimately fated to achieve success (in my headcanon, all of them), and the size of the tumor is dependent on how big the resulting explosion is meant to be.

Clearly, to create the Green Sun, you need a much larger bomb than one you'd need just to off a few kids.

Also, Aranea's face is priceless in the last page of the update.

Haha, cool.  Good to see a troll willing to do what needs to be done without getting all weepy about it later.  (Less impressive since she seems to be thoroughly sociopathic, but that's entertaining in itself).

Edit: I wonder if the symbol of Space spinning in Skaia is significant... seems new.  A clue as to how they found their way through the farthest ring to their post-scratch descendants?  (This whole meeting is still in the farthest ring, right?)

EditEdit: An early sign that Sufferer x Disciple was a thing pre-scratch as well as post.  And Equius-ancestor's horns are unbroken, just like post-scratch.  I'm most looking forward to meeting their Highblood.

From left to right, up to down, it looks like the counterparts of Aradia, Gamzee, Nepeta, Kanaya (the hair is similar to the one with green eyes a couple panels later, but it might be Terezi), Equius, Eridan, Sollux, Terezi (the only one left, might be Kanaya), and Tavros.
