DF 1.0 would be a shit game, in order to pack all the reality and the coinstency of the world into a game the gameplay would suffer horribly. You would be able to use aikido moves to take someones dagger and toss him across the room while throwing sand in his eyes and using a chair as an improvised shield, yet there would hardly be a point to doing so except to prove that the game can simulate it properly.
Most of the joy comes from following the development.

I laughed.

I would kill to protect someone, but I wouldn't die to do so, thats what my future army will be for.

Planned Features for Dwarf Fortress 1.0

Possible Features for Beyond 1.0
Yes, it is majestic, yet it will hardly be a fun game once you figure everything out.
I doubt it will bring different possible tactics for solving a problem, most of the gameplay will be(like now) figuring out what you're supposed to do and how to do it.
Sure it will be a game to write home about, yet it will come down to telling a story(which is exactly what Toady and ThreeToe plan to make) gameplay will not be exceptional in anyway.
I'd much rather read a book written by Toady and ThreeToe, it would be their unique imagination and dry humor in a much purer form.

But the development of this game is nontheless a wonderfull quest of Toady's that I love following. I love this game as much as all of you do(okay not as much as some of you...), I even printed this poster and taped it to my bedroom wall. I just don't feel the final product of it all will be really as interesting as it's development.

Remember: If you die, you might never see DF 1.0

Unless you happen to be religious, then you'll see it even sooner!

Believing in something doesn't make it real.

Nor does it mean that it's unreal.

Yes, believing isn't what makes it unreal, the fact it makes no sense is what makes it unreal.

Because the Big Bang theory makes so much sense.

Actually I was talking about seeing DF 1.00 sooner if you die, you inflammable Elmo.

But don't you want your dwarves to know how their universe came into existence? About that Great Toad in the Sky? The One who puts the Bang into the Big Bang?

And Elmo is completely irrelevant. Everyone knows he only has a single world, with an unimaginative name of "Elmo's World." Even the Windy Winds of Windiness is a better name than that.

Also. Someone stop the quote pyramid.

Done. If anyone wishes to discuss my belief that heaven will feature DF 1, please shuffle off to The life and times of Strife26. That's why I made it, wot wot.

Hm... This is a tough one. I probably wouldn't directly sacrifice myself for someone I wasn't very close to, but I can imagine taking risks to save a good friend. I voted "no, unless there is a good reason for them to live," by the way.

Anyhow, I don't really see much point in my existence other than to, well, exist, but at the same time, the same can be said for most people. I do kind of see others as being "worth more" than myself, but I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to actually "sacrifice" myself. If there was some small chance I might live, then maybe. Hm.

This question is a difficult one to answer.

We all know the gods play DF 2.0, that is how worlds are created.
DF in a finished product has the complexity and awesomeness to create a new universe every world-gen, endlessly entertaining and amusing the almighty ones.
