There's a couple of people I'd take a bullet for.  It's not that any of my friends are indispensable people that the world couldn't survive without, but some of them have, like, kids and families that depend on them, and I've only got me.

I don't think I'd actually die for anyone, but, like Splendiferous, I'd try really hard to save them. But if I had to make the choice between sacraficing myself and just letting them die, I'd probably hesitate for a moment. And then it'd be too late.

I'd never give my life for anyone or anything. I'm more useful alive than dead.
Not to mention that almost everyone I know are already on the path to self-destruction, I'd just buy them a few years.

I wouldn't die for my family either, but I would gladly kill for them...

I would happily kill almost anyone, and if my family or my friends died I wouldn't blink an eye.

On the flipside, I have no fear of dying, and don't care much about my life, so if I liked the person enough I guess I might.

Are you truly more useful? Your mere existance is a great price in resources, are you really making up for it? Not that I doubt it, I'm just wondering if you thought of this, or was it an excuse for your individualistic belief?

DF 1.0 would be a shit game, in order to pack all the reality and the coinstency of the world into a game the gameplay would suffer horribly. You would be able to use aikido moves to take someones dagger and toss him across the room while throwing sand in his eyes and using a chair as an improvised shield, yet there would hardly be a point to doing so except to prove that the game can simulate it properly.
