Prince calls someone a "Paki", people go up in flames

Excerpt:
Quote
Prince Harry's racist remark about a Pakistani member of his army platoon has prompted widespread criticism.

The prince issued an apology after the News of the World published a video diary in which he calls one of his then Sandhurst colleagues a "Paki".

An Army spokesperson said it took the allegations "very seriously" and were investigating.

Cabinet minister John Denham said it was "offensive" and the Ramadhan Foundation called the prince a "thug".

St James's Palace said he had used the term about a friend and without malice.

In a statement the Army said: "The Army does not tolerate inappropriate behaviour in any shape or form," a spokesperson for the force added.

Opinion:

I think what's happening here is that all those buffoons asking for an apology on the grounds of the prince not being tolerant or being racist are the ones committing the acts of intolerance or racism themselves. Using the god argument here, you cannot call someone a racist or a "thug" for carelessly calling someone a racist term without committing segregation yourself. It's obvious that the Prince was acting more human than anything; calling a close buddy something vulgar isn't something new, especially in the army.

Yet they've got the tabloids and morons complaining of racism when it wasn't racism at all. If you call your friends your "bitches", it only ever becomes an insult when someone else starts complaining about it. They have no real right to complain over what you call your friends, and if your friends don't care, why should they?

I don't think it's a secret that I think that westerners have this racism complex, that they feel this strange, inexplicable need to have to feel inferior and jump on anything that might approach racism (especially anything remotely related to Africa). It's not wrong, but it does get out of control. The fact of the matter is that the best way to resolve differences between race, sex, and gender is by talking about it, taking initiatives to resolve it. Attempting to silence everyone and anyone who makes a racist statement is ridiculous. I believe total tolerance comes when anyone and everyone can make a racist statement and no one cares AND everyone is still treated equally.

Of course, I also believe that will never happen and people are genetically programmed to segregate.

Honestly... It is like the media just hangs around Prince Harry just to watch him mess up (which is probably true)

He dresses as a Nazi/Hitlar, which is frankly a common costume, and suddenly all the Anti-semetism bells start ringing. I doubt however that many Jews were insulted (though oddly... it is always "How will the Jews feel about this?" as if they did nothing else). This is why I'd really hate to be Princess Harry... He basically has to be the Bastion of poise and a psychic in order to avoid scrutany.

I won't comment on if what Harry did was right or not... Though I do know it is overblown. (and people wonder why the Queen lives in seclusion)

In a similar story... The Disney Movie "The Frog Princess" involved a Black Chamber Maid named Maddie whome eventually kisses a frog and becomes a Princess. She also had frizzy hair

Looking at my description... guess how much of it was called "Racist"? If you guessed "all of it" you are right!

They Changed it to "The Princess and the frog" (because people are too lazy) who involved a Princess (Still lazy) named Tiana (because Maddie is too common)... who looks very steriotypically Disney princess (Alright MAYBE something was here... but still... Come ON!!!).

Oddly many people claim that it was the White Community that actually complained about the movie.

I think that's the proper way to vehemently agree with someone on the Internet. I could be wrong, since I rarely use such acronyms.

Paki is insulting now? Oops.

It is just an ethinicity. I wouldn't have a problem with someone calling me a Fari? Dakoti? (What CAN you call someone from ND?) Mind you, I'd insult their nationality back, but it wouldn't be that insulting.

I'll go out on a limb and mention a discussion about how the 'N' word is okay if is is N***AR instead of N***ER. Funny huh? Political correctness is, in fact, fascism.

There's also niggard, which has two meanings, depending on where you are.

If you're not in an American city it means "Extremely self-centered person", or something along those lines.

If you're in an American city it means "I'm about to be shot several times"

Iftikhar Raja said his nephew, now a captain in the Pakistani army, would have risen above such terms and had not mentioned the incident to his family.

It reached a new level of ridiculousness, as the "insulted" person apparently doesn't consider himself insulted, or just doesn't mind.

Well... Some, I said some, "Derogatory" phrases have no real meaning it in of themselves... but carry the "racist" lable simply because they were used in a time when there was a lot of racism.

...

"Paki" is racist?

It probably is as I said earlier... a remnant of a time when people were Racist and refered to people from that location as a "Paki"... Though I really can't see much racism in the name itself... as I probably wouldn't find being called a "Can" or "Nadi" very insultive. (though "Can" sounds rather stupid so I probably would prefer them not to)

What we need here is an Etymologist... perhaps the term "Paki" stems from a long lost term.

From now on I'm not going to call anyone by their name.  Instead, I'm going to call them the most derogatory racial term I can think of for their race.  Eventually, others will join me, and all the whores and politicians will sho--No, wait.  Sorry, got confused there.

Everyone will realize how silly this political correctness is, and we'll be able to say words again without worrying how people will react to those words.

It always brings me back to my favorite episode of Star Trek that dealt with Racism (they met Honest Abe, since I can't spell his last name >.>) which has my favorite phrase from it... I think it went something like "We have learned not to be afraid of words"

The original post seemed to confuse people, so here's it edited to have no examples or nothing:

The british military cares because they have a simple conclusion about this:
They need unit cohesion.  Without it, people get killed.
A very public, racially charged remark can hurt unit cohesion.
Afganistan is not dwarf fortress.  Loosing (men) is not fun.
Therefore, they will deal with this matter rather then take a chance, however small, of decreased fighting ability.
