I'm just trying to say how it's not a matter of relentless PC media

Well... not "Just" a matter of Relentless PC media who are at least... aggrivating the issue.

Though that does remind me of the time I saw reports on a soldier who threw a puppy to its death. They said the soldier was discharged and when I asked why, because while cruel it doesn't make sense to me that he would be kicked out of military service, they said that "It is because harming animals is an indication of phychological problems" or something like that.

So the problems arn't always straight forward.

Maniac: You insulted him on purpose. You used the word as an insult... it's completely different... In that sense, you were being completely racist, though it was because of a heated moment.

Me calling a friend "heya bitch, wassap?" (I never do this) is completely different from "get the fuck away from me, bitch."

See the difference?

In that sense, when I call an Indian friend "macha" (I think it means "brother's mother" or something like that.), I'm not being racist, just an established greeting between friends. I am being racist if I say something like... "Indonesians are stupid."

I'd say it is just a matter of relentless media trying to appeal to the common denominator: working class people who want to feel that they might be better than the nobles etc. Its all it comes down to.

Take for example, last week there was some crap about prince Charles supposedly hitting one of his hunting dogs with his cane as they were fighting over a bird. "Animal rights activists" were enraged at the treatment of the dogs. who were fighting over the corpse of a shot bird

Well, I did not expect that I would be so offensive to my friend.  While I meant to respond to his baiting in kind, I didn't mean to seriously offend.  But it wasn't my opinion that mattered, it was how it sounded to him.  The appearance, not intent, is what undermined the bonding.

Likewise, I believe Harry's intent isn't the key issue.  What is important is how everyone who's an "other" in the British military (blacks/indians/scots/catholics, etc.) feels about the inclusiveness at the end of this incident.  Harry's intent certainly affects this issue, because if the troops can accept it as no more then ruffled feathers and mis-communication, there will be much to worry about.  Assuming Harry hasn't outed secret racist tendencies, dealing with the matter very seriously will help establish Harry's intent on the issue.  But, if the military passed the matter off, it sets a bad precedent for incidents that could be more dangerous.  Deal with it seriously, and it ends here.

I think Prince Harry should be executed by drowning for this.

Actually, I think a lot of the English royal family should be executed. I just don't like them.

Prince Charles is okay, though. He seems like a nice guy, and he seems to care about the environment.

You're allowed to talk about DF nobles like that, but I urge cuation when dealing with real royal families.

In the "male bonding" that accompanies sweaty activities built around warrior culture, racist comments can be very hurtful.
The British are now a "warrior culture"?

I painfully experienced this on my high school wrestling team (which wasn't all male, hence the quotation marks.)
I stopped reading there. A building full of adolescents is hardly a fitting example.

"Paki" doesn't sound like it can do any harm, but the military can't take that risk.
Your right! The military wouldn't want to hurt someone's feelings!
