Someone on the official forum gave me this awesome tip when I asked about finding a specific item (the cat bank, which I eventually found in a shop):

I suggest jump farming the puppy cave. This means you go inside the cave, look at the items that are within immediate view, take any you want then leave and come back in. The puppy cave is always random, so this is a time efficient way to get certain items (especially low level spellbooks)

I've been doing this and finding all sorts of fun stuff, including a guillotine which I'm terrified to use for fear it's a suicide machine of some sort, and loads of spellbooks.

The official forum is pretty cool, though you usually have to wait a day or so for an answer because there are only a few people who know everything about the game.

So I'm having pretty good luck with a Warmage, got him up to level 4 and managed to avoid the ether twice.  Highest I've gotten is level 5, but then they got riddled with ether effects and stopped being worth playing.  I finally have my first Cure Corruption potion with this character, too, and he hasn't died yet!  Hooray!

Edit: Oh, by the way, the official forum has this advice on getting seeds: You can worship Kumiromi, then carry food around. When it rots, there is a chance that you will get seeds.

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to worship Kumiromi.  Maybe I'll go ask, unless one of you guys knows...

There's a place of worship that you can get to by going north of Palmia (pretty much two 'steps' to the west, and then straight north for me) that has a bunch of altars there, including one to that specific god, who i noticed had a bunch of seeds beside their altar.

tap 'p' when stood atop it, and it'll ask if you want to worship said god, while showing you what they want as offerings and what the benefits of it are.

also, i noticed when reading a recharge scroll, that i could target a spellbook. i've not tried playing with that yet, but i'll put some time into seeing how that works and the risks to it when i next play my mage type character.

and, as i said a little while back, i was going to record my sleep statistics. i ignored the gain to potential when sleeping, as i was more interested in the events in my sleep, but, this is what i've gotten so far, by sleeping specifically in the one bed i carry around.

Eastern Bed (Normal) - Skill Up (9), Spell (2), Meditation (7), Regeneration (5), Theft (3)
Slept in Total - 16 Times

I'm pretty certain i was getting more dreams sleeping in the obsidian/silver beds in town, but, it's going to be an ongoing process, and take a while before i can make anything useful of the notes i gather on it.

To worsip differerent gods head due north from Palmia till you hit a stonehedgeish structure. Alters to 7 different gods in there. Also there are several seeds and a couple other items in there as well as a bunch of non aggressive talking animals.

When making a character, I have found that charisma is THE most essential for early survivial.  At 20 charisma you can have 4 pets and still do escort missions.    The only problem I've been having is the ease of death.  I've picked up weapons from enemies that had a higher damage range then my health.

In response to the guy with pianists... a few suggestions.

1. Drop the piano you start with. It's not worth trying to carry. Leave it in your home.

2. Use the piano you dropped in your home (you did drop it, right?) to spam-practice performance. If you have your pet with you, he doesn't seem to ever attack (and if he does, it's low enough that it doesn't matter. Just rest briefly), and he'll sometimes drop gold/items for you.

3. DO NOT, under any circumstances, perform in the starting-city tavern. It seems to be deliberately harder than any other place. There is a named mob that always hangs out there that -always- tries to murder you for playing. At least, in my experience, with performance up to 20+

4. The less populated the area you play in, the less money you earn... but the less chance you have of dying.

5. You might want to see if you can't find one of the lighter instruments in a shop. They're nice for carrying around, unlike pianos.

In the cyberdome, the second or so room on the left always has this giant pink really good bed. This adventurer its a "masterpeice silverwork luxury bed", and it gives me awsome stuff nearly everytime I sleep.

Thanks for that help with the putting of objects into containers. This game is strangely addictive. My bard just got over the hurdle of everyone throwing objects at him instead of giving him money, so now it's easy street: play for trinkets, sell trinkets at the shop.

Right now I've got a ring that had the following attributes-

It increases your Charisma by 6.
It increases your Will by 3.
It prevents aliens from entering your body.

When I first saw that, I thought I was dreaming.

the ephemeral peridot <Final>

It maintains speed.
It grants knowledge of anatomy.
It increases luck by 3.
It increases constitution by 2.
It floats you.
It negates the effect of blindness.

Are these names really random?

As random as the names of squads in DF.  Isn't it fabulous?

One of the saddest moments of my DF was when the "Furious Tongs" or something to that effect was renamed...

I actually got a guy started, a level 6 warmage and he still hasn't died once due to heavy savescumming.

I'm up to level 7 thanks to save scumming.  I've got a storage house and a ranch, and a crapload of money.  Now I'm trying to level my firearms skill up enough that I can take on enemies above putit rank...

I didn't see any increase in good stuff, and 4 nights in it actually cursed my stuff! (also as normal...)

What's your luck?  I took all three levels of the 'lucky' feat in character generation, and I don't recall ever getting a single bad event during sleep.  I also regularly get "bad event averted" messages when walking around, and occasionally find platinum pieces, resources, food, blessings from random priests, etc.

It doesn't seem to help much when drinking from wells or other things I "choose" to do, though.

I've never been sure how much impact those three lucky feats had, so I'm kinda curious about other people's experiences.

1) How to find treasure by the map? I got it from Palma king, then i found neccessary place on the world map, entered location but it's nothing special here. Please help!
2) How to use gene machine?
3) How to get coins for Miral and Garok's workshop?

^ no idea =/

I find that taking all three lucky feats helps a ton... getting 4 spells and like 5 skills by sleeping on the masterpeice bed might have just been a luck streak. Awful beds or no bed at all seem to give rather consistent theft or bad luck avoided though.

So, whats the best way to make money? I'm currently running quests for it, but the amount I have to spend on identifying scrolls and spellbooks is insane.
