I've never quite known how they get these complicated engravings on something as thin as a bow. Or an amulet with half a dozen pictures on it.

Isn't there some thread where a guy made a statue with the entire history of the world engraved on it, which was worth hundreds of millions?

Found it:

My third game, the first in which I finally got a grip of the interface, worked out how to dig staircases that connected, and to get things done.

One of my drawfs becomes Possessed, far earlier than I anticipated.  No doors on workshops!  No ores!  No glass!

But he seemed happy enough with Mudstone. (although, I am fairly sure they all all getting fed up with seeing Mudstone by now).

And he produced....

A legendary Quern.

After the relief that he hadnt destroyed anything or killed anyone, and having got over the disappointment, I duely destroyed the old quern, and installed the new one.

That artifact statue of historical goodness is awesome.

I'm picturing it as this twenty-foot-tall statue, not of engravings (that's silly!) but of the actual carved-out historical figures and events, all sort of overlapping on top of and beside each other, with some events at the bottom and the more prominent ones up on top, with maybe the figure of some extremely important thing/person at the very peak.

No, the statue is crowned with an image of the sculpter himself eating a plump helmet.

Or an image of the statue being created.

I just had a tanner make a sandal, and name it after himself. Then he added a little picture of a mule. In dragon leather.

The raccoon's still there, though.  Just chilling out.  Being a raccoon in some rocks.

Good god. Gold is heavier than lead. How the hell does a raccoon drag that away?

Maybe he took it piece by piece, like in that Johnny Cash song.

Maybe it was really the devil, who needed it for a contest with an undertaker.

Is that some sort of mythological story CWAL?

Only vaguely. Made of the same substance and put to the same use, but a bit like comparing a castle and a doublewide trailer.

... which is based on the devil and Daniel webster, which is based on the Devil and Tom Walker, both of which are basically modern retellings of the germanic legend of Faust.

You can't trust raccoons. They'll trick you out into the desert, and you'll disappear.
