I think this whole amulet thing is just some psychology. If I just give you an artifact, then nobody cares about it. But if I made you fight a giant ogre for it then you guys would be killing each other for it.

Actually, it's more because you told us what it is, and what it does.  If you didn't tell us, there would probably be no less than 3 people trying to figure out what it does, and after all that effort, they would want something to show for it.

Personally, I would much rather have a partial success rather than a complete fail, and I'm just fine with having a regular success instead of an epic success.  Overshoots and epic fails are, of course, undesirable.

Well, I already planned to have all the other artifacts start out unidentified. That should be fun. I have ideas for some of them.

My toga shall be, if possible, plain white, but changing hue across the entire visible spectrum when looked at from different angles. Yes, like Saruman's robes. I shall be Sean of Many Colours! ;D

I look around the temple for any wearable/wieldable equipment they might have stuck in as decoration, and take whatever I find for myself. If it's a sword stuck in a rock, I take it along with the rock. :P
