I've unlocked the thread, but I mean it, knock it off. All of you post about your sexual hangups somewhere else, and have some fucking tact if you're going to talk about human trafficking. Jesus christ.

If their sexual hangups are a symptom of the end game of Late-Stage Capitalism, is it ok to post them then?

/ducks

Which is what I said, but y'know...

Bring it on, little slimy hunter, you are a man, and I fear not the prey of monsters.

Incidentally, a big part of fixing the world and moving beyond capitalism will by necessity involve the very sorts of reforms which people are marching in the streets for at this very moment.

Without the threat of violence keeping a pool of workers desperate enough to accept literally any employment and wages or risk homelessness (which is criminalized), imprisonment (which is often another source of workers at even lower wages), or casually getting murdered... well, capitalism starts to have difficulties... almost like it can't breathe.

Sorry mister I only send dick pics after the second date, what kind of man do you think I am
You're the one who offered angry make-up sex!

Incidentally capitalist solutions to the dating scene exist, they're usually made of various TPE materials and are priced accordingly. Though still cheaper than spending time and money and effort on self-improvement, wardrobe, exercise, picking up a new hobby, reading more, and similar such actions which will generally end up making you feel better about yourself whether you're in a relationship or not, which of course ends up making you seem more valuable as a mate because we're insane monkeys thrust in a world of high tech madness.

That's too early stage capitalism. The REAL late stage capitalist solution to dating will be surrendering all your rights to your corporate overlords, who will then mandatorily pair up individuals by willingness to procreate in order to ensure another generation of customers. So if you're lonely, just head on over to your local eugenics officer who will find your mate that will be genetically ideal for creating an baby that will be genetically predisposed to being gullible and obedient.

So the Epstein thing wasn't a capitalist thing?  I beg to differ.

Whichever way I slice it the contemporary form of capitalism and the contemporary form of interpersonal relations (including relations between the sexes, sexual and otherwise) are intertwined.

So I'm not sure MSH is railing at the right thing.  People descending to being 12yo's at the mention of SEX, on the other hand, is always bad form.

In my experience (and sharp painful memories), it's more--

You leave for the summer break, and your friends all tell you how much they look forward to playing football/basketball/baseball/other--- then come spring, you find that they have all been reduced to drooling idiots that go "huhh uhh.... She's got TITTIES!" and they never quite come back from it.

This really does have nothing to do with Capitalism. With online dating you’re basically propositioning random strangers. Naturally, women are going to be very, very selective about who they interact with in that sort of environment.

Your best bet would be to meet women in the real world, and rather than go propose going from zero to monogamous-serious-relationship on the first encounter, just be friends. It’s totally fine to ask a friend if they’re interested in going out to lunch or watching a movie or something. Once you’ve established that relationship, then you (and she) can assess whether stepping the commitment up a notch is the right thing to do. Even then you’ll probably be rejected most of the time. They may just want friendship, after all. But she might be able to help you find someone...

This is the capitalism thread, not the relationships thread

Well, the two are somewhat related. Though MrRoboto's original complaint probably has more to do with the advancement of technology endowing people with greater freedom and personal power, which themselves enabled the kind of egoism that made up the core of his gripe against online dating. Now, you could say that capitalism enables innovation, which then enables personal freedom, which then enables capitalism, in a cyclical feedback loop that guarantees certain outcomes the longer it goes on. So, was it really off-topic?

Or am I just reaching? :P

Funny thing is that the institution of dating is a rather late invention of capitialism - term first being used in the 20's... the 1920's - with it's history stretching back only a few of hundred years at most. The original post harks back to the glory days of dating in the 20th century before it was pretty much entirely subsumed by capital.

More fundamentall to this thread is the view of capitalism as a set of exclusively economic relations, a reified view that ignores the fact that it is only from the (exploitative) point of view of capital that social relations are seen as merely economic relations.  It is the relation of exploitation applied to the social field rather than that of labour, so that the driving force of society comes to be seen as the economy rather than the ever-present webwork of social relations.  'The stupid economy' as I've taken to calling it.  Me too.  I can't breathe.

In what way is the rapid, widespread adoption of a profit-driven third party to relationship building not a form of capitalism?  Its yet another person selling a solution to a problem to earn a profit.  All I'm saying is that the solution isn't working, and its in that third party's best interest that it barely works at all.

That's not really a unique thing to capitalism though, is it?  I mean, even in a socialist system you want people selling solutions to problems to earn a profit.  The only difference is private profit versus public profit, right?
