13th Timber - Private pages of Sigmund, not chief medical Dwarf
The Underlook has been operational for some time and treatment continues to mixed effects. The water system works well but requires refinement. The water flows to the first set of grates but does not flow the full distance to the prisoner’s showers. This may need to be a task for a future overseer. At the moment I am distracted by the fact that a possessed child has somehow taken ownership of a workshop behind the locked doors of the Underlook.

Kubrik requested a series of access tunnels be dug underneath the centre and, fortunately, we were able to safely escort the child deep into the centre to complete their construction.

The new artifact now adorns the 'reception room' to the Underlook.

To celebrate this event, several patients were released back into the population following wonderful recoveries. For example, following the patented Sigmund Technique, Lolokerig marksdwarf, who in Galena was at 13k stress had come in Timber to 'Fine' levels, a tolerable 4k. The rumours that he had escaped, following hospitalization due to a fight, then slipping through a door our medical staff forgot to lock, concealed by the mist of a nearby waterfall, is greatly exaggerated. This is merely the final step of the Sigmund technique and was completely planned.

Late Moonstone

The next few months were spent refining the Under-look, identifying what needs the patients had that we had not accounted for. Several patients passed away from dehydration (despite the presence of a well and booze in the stockpiles). We inevitably added a crypt to the institute’s facilities disabling auto-burial. It would have perhaps been an obvious need, but we neglected it in the initial designs. Maybe we were too hopeful.

In addition to the crypt, there is now a small temple complex with the most relevant gods to the patients. Construction was quickly sped up with the access tunnels and the under-looks compartmentalized design.

Nil former Cpt of the Guard and Ralostuk Macelord will guard the doors in death in masterwork coffins. Ralostuk sadly stands at his post already guarding the dead, Nil despite 100k stress continues to guard the living. Death’s are taken hard here, due to the confined living arrangement all now have at least a passing acquaintance with each other.

Early Opal

For future overseers, hauling duties are in three categories. Those in the underlook had all basic tasks enabled including all hauling, due to them living in isolation, they needed to cover all basic functions. Moderate risk Dwarves in the general population had most of their hauling duties removed to allow them to focus on high satisfaction tasks. Kubrik had re-assigned labours of hauling, cleaning, burial to only those Dwarves with excellent resistance to stress. Ablelneth, a miner of little note but excellent resistance to stress, was close to the surface hauling goblin corpses from the trap corridor when suddenly a Were-lizard appeared as if out of nowhere.

The traps were no use and the were-creature, nicknamed Cinnamon, lunged at Ableneth.

The Miner miraculously escaped while the Were-lizard hid in the miasma.
The main gate was locked trapping the Were-lizard in side.

It soon descended into the fort where our Militia waited.

A lone swordsdwarf Rovod Tangathkubuk waiting in position was charged by the beast!

And emerged victorious and unscathed.

The injured Miner has been brought to the Underlook medical Centre to care for his cut. He will receive excellent medical care and I’m sure nothing at all unexpected or bad will go wrong.

Obsidian - Private notes of Kubrik pagesnarled

Ablelneth, once healed remained in the Underlook. As a precaution he was moved to the holding bays. Quite wisely it seems as Ablelneth, now named Were-Ablelneth transformed at the next full moon breaking a door down and terrifying the Doomhollow vampire. The Vampire will now not leave her room and has become severely depressed. Dedicated quarters were built, including a gated area to contain Ableneth once transformed. I am considering the construction of a new Underlook specifically for the treatment of strange creatures.

Alas the realization of this second centre may be a future endeavor. I reflect that their may be somewhere a confluence of possibilities here. The concern that the great warrior Nil Absulem may perish is well founded. With the werewolf and Vampire Doomhollow now has the tools for immortality should someone be prepared to use them.

On a lighter note following the progress in the under-look I have expanded the temple complex for the main population, all our existing temples appeared to be general purpose, a sub level underneath them now accounts for every God individually (with room for more of course).

End of Obsidian - Final pages of Kubrik Pagesnarled

As I'm now at the final moments of the year I must reflect on my objectives.

•   Improve Fort Happiness and Isolate ‘risk’ in a productive way. – Complete with completion of the Underlook.
According to Dr Sigmund the stress levels within the Underlook has consistently gone down on average.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

And there was good levels of stability in the wider population despite the goblin/kobold attack and werewolf incident valiantly dealt with by my son Sodel.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

•   Provide ample opportunity to improve Fortress medical Skill with low impact to the general population. – Complete, Sigmund and Cattekin have improved their medical skill considerably and now we have two high quality hospitals.

•   Expand on the questions of ‘Did our anatomies falter?’ (Favourite book) and attempt to discover the key to mysteries of the mind – Complete, our anatomies did falter, considerably.

•   Make everyone happy. – Decidedly not possible.

Kubrik laid down his pen and placed down the Rutile hat. The whispers that had haunted his mind for the last year ceased. All of those weighty questions fell from his mind and any swirling burden was lifted. It was strange, this rutile hat. No matter he thought cheerily to himself, as he lifted his chisel once again and continued to scratch psychologically haunting engravings into the wall. Those lofty questions were really none of his concern and it would soon be dinner time.

Save and notes for future overseers:

Great write-ups. I'll be sure to get started on my turn soon. I haven't really had the time to try out the new version; are there any compatibility issues? Should I use 0.47.02 or can I go up to .04?

Many thanks all.

I forgot to mention @Travis, a dwarf ‘Nish’ a child recently joined adulthood at 80k stress. Not sure why he is so angsty. He is currently locked in his bedroom so may need to be ‘transported’ once he leaves his Berserk rage. Teenagers...

Re chew of the magma crab.l, yes, potential due to a lack of lavish meals?

Apologies to Kaag in advance! For some reason Kubrik has a mild intolerance of Cavy pups.
