I thought farms produced 2000. If its only 1000 my offer will have to be adjusted. And no, of course not, but since its metal today and picks next turn, they would have to be cheaper.

It's 600. All my notes have them in the single digits for ease, when really they should be the hundreds.

Cheaper by .. more than half off, forcing a loss on materials?

This is why I want GM-advised prices.

You do not have a true monopoly. You're the only one with mines NOW, sure. But I am both military and the only one with cheap smithing tech. If pushed, I have a much easier time claiming new mines in hostile territory than you, and (almost) anyone else trying to branch into smithing needs to waste vital resources either independently researching smithing techs, or buying/stealing them from me.

That's without council-based sanctions, having 'accidents' with guarding your mines in the future, secretly making sub-standard picks that'll break and need expensive repairs later, or any number of ways we can sabotage our own survival.

I don't want to branch out into mining. I want us to specialize so we aren't wasting time researching the same things in parallel. Don't operate in bad faith.

I offered you 270 gold, literally more gold than I've ever held in my hands, up front for something you dont even have and you threaten me with 'accidents' unless i make it double? You just lost a sale, buddy. Its that simple.

You originally said 90. And then edited up to 270 half an hour later.

I also said i was going to buy food for 5 copper a piece, and you have convinced me to increase both. (Though im starting to wonder if I should really be taking advice from someone who goes for his sword every time he feels the price of bread isn't what he expected)
The basic truth is this: you dont have to sell me anything, nor buy anything. If noone else the Duergar (sp) have iron aplenty, go trade with them.

Edit: note too that since production (and presumably goods in circulation) will be going up in the coming months, while the amount of gold (currency in circulation) will not, we are heading for a period of deflation (goods will become cheaper over time, until I manage to find a gold/silver vein and our king builds a mint.)

Nice Strawman.

I was (mostly) complaining about the 90g pick buy offer + 110g selling price of pick's iron cost, and your defensive response that the offer had to be cheaper if you were paying early. Since I didn't know you'd stealth-edited your offer to me, I have nothing more to complain about on that front.

Edit: Lulz, we have no wood, and no immediate way to get more. Dumb argument, nothing to see here.

Dumb arguments are dumb.

Edit: hurm, quite a conundrum, can we disarm the axemen for some axes? That sounds like a bad plan, but unless we can get some wood/axes from the Draugar/Snow Trolls, we might be a little screwed without it.

Thats a public offer. If you'll only sell for (what did you say, 90+110×2?) 400 gold, maybe the artificers will be more amenable. Or maybe, knowing your stubornness, he'll offer to sell at 390. The point is, and I'm just dreaming here, he wont respond with "up that price or I'll have my magaes put a pox on you".
Not quite what I said, and I didn't say what I'd sell it for, just that 90 was beneath the manufacturing cost.
What I'm thinking they're worth is 3x iron (1x mine labor + 1x sawmill labor + 1x forge labor). So yes, the previously mentioned 270 paid a turn early is fair, though tbh superior drills at 390 is way better  :P

Probably. I was thinking/hoping to assign them to a partially built lumbermill, but buying wood from the Draugar would be so much better.

Any ideas on whether it would be wiser to trade with light forces, or with a show of strength by mage-buffed axemen?

Does Urgrist need 2 Wood and 6 Iron or 200 and 600? Normally I wouldn't need to ask, but it's plausible a single artifact would only need a pinch of materials.

If it is 600, we should probably get it to him when possible, but... that could be a while.

On that topic, remember my mage can use his action to produce two units of "living wood" or waive that much construction cost for a building, so we have an option there. This does come instead of producing 1000 food or buffing axemen, however.

Darn it, I thought I fixed that. It's 600 iron and 200 wood. All resource costs are in the hundreds.

Buildings don't need wood (or stone for that matter, I guess we're operating our enterprises out of tents,) Robson did you mean item construction?

I think the thought of needing to barter for goods is throwing us off, but we also kind of need updated stocks. Or more specifically, I need to know how much my farms cost in upkeep so I know if we should be worrying about money in addition to food and muscle. I'm also curious how much income taverns pull and how much housing costs, as the former relates to cash issues and the latter will presumably be necessary at some point.

That said and money aside, we should currently have:

-2 Farms (Ashbough, Freeholders)
-2 Mines (Earthstrike)
-1 Tavern (Locksmiths)
-1 Blacksmith (Blacksteel)
-1 Artificer (Hands)

-1 Hoes (Blacksteel)
-1 Pistols (Hands)

-5250 Food [2400 Base + 3400 Farming + 1700 Hunting - 3250 (assumed) or 3500 half-rations, unless some of the population got full rations] (Centralized?)
-300 Iron (Stockpile, Earthstrike x2)

-Mystery Bulb (Ashbough)
-Ray Pe(s)ts (Freeholders)
-Blue Opaleneum Deposit (Earthstrike)
-Strange Demands [200 Wood, 600 Iron] (Blacksteel)

Presumably we'll need my mage to produce two units of wood this turn so Blacksteel can continue producing hoes so we don't eventually starve to death. Presuming negotiations for iron go smoothly, which, well.

Alternatively, if negotiations with the duergar go well they might have cheap tools for sale.

Speaking of negotiations, I should probably put my suggestions for that into an IC post.

I think I need upkeep/tavern numbers to continue.
