You decide to refer the case to General Thrane, the pious Mountain Dwarf who rules the empire in your husband's stead.

Quote
2

General Thrane resolves the situation with all the grace and tact of a Mountain Dwarf... in that he lops the offending merchant's head off without trial or explanation. This sits well with his imperial subjects, but angers the nearby Chestnut Dwarf Town from which the recently departed merchant hailed!

---

Your domain is now on the brink of war; What started with a harassed priest and a pissed off merchant has now truly spiraled out of control. The Empire of all thing Beautiful finds itself at odds with a loose confederacy of the five remaining major Chestnut Dwarf towns that it does not yet control.

The Confederacy is united by a fear of your husband's empire and its religion. They claim that General Thrane thinks that the Chestnut Dwarves are simple and haplass hicks that he may conquer, and that he actually seized power by killing or locking away your heroic husband. They possess a significant numerical advantage over their foe, they also feel that if the conflict drags out long enough, that the powerful Dwarven pantheon will intervene on their behalf.

The Empire is united by a fanatical devotion to your cult. It claims that the Confederacy is using the beheading of the merchant as an excuse to take back the three imperial towns for the Dwarven Pantheon, and to purge the faithful. What it lacks in legion size, The Empire makes up for in equipment; General Thrane has made the import of metals from the mountains a cornerstone of his rule, and as such his army carries arms and armor of mighty iron. General Thrane and his most elite troops also happen to be Mountain Dwarves, a race that is larger and known to be more warlike than the local Chestnut Dwarves.

Your followers are clearly in danger, so perhaps divine intervention is necessary.

A: I wont get involved... yet. Lets give the mortals a chance to prove themselves.
B: Really? All this over a single beheading? I'm sending a message to the dwarven pantheon. Surely the gods can get together and resolve this matter with bloodshed.
C: My husband's absence lends legitimacy to the enemies' claim. Perhaps he should return to the mortal world until this is dealt with.
D: To hell with this! I'm sending in my host, consequences be damned!

C Let's try and solve this without resorting to bloodshed and without involving the other gods.

You decide that the Empire shall have its emperor in its time of need! Your husband packs his belongings, gives you a stoic kiss goodbye, and is escorted back to The City of the Tome. Hopefully he will make a difference.

1.9 CS:

Bark-Ark's feast in your honor has come! You arrive at the seat of judgement in your finest gown, accompanied by only the best looking members of your court and host. The feast itself takes place in a large banquet hall full of tables. On each table is many plates of food and pitchers of drink; The drink is pinkish in color and tastes like mead, while the plates are each different but mostly carry various meats.

There are about a dozen mighty beings at the banquet, and as each takes their turn introducing themselves to you, you are able to quickly figure out who are the important ones.

Bark-Ark's master is large humanoid with the head and rubbery black and white skin of an Orca. He introduces himself as Ore, god of strength and King of the Abyssal Pantheon. Ore, in turn, introduces you to his wife Morayi: a hulking muscular humanoid female with three breasts, gills, and a single piercing eye. Morayi is a goddess of war, and in addition to being Ore's wife she is also his champion, daughter, and grandaughter; Apparently it is tradition for Ore to wed his strongest female descendant whenever he loses a wife to death or abandonment.

Bark-Ark then introduces you to his husband Captooth, a god of time who takes the form of a large sleeper shark with a terrifying fungal infection. Captooth, you learn, is more or less the babysitter of the Abyssal Pantheon, tasked with raising Ore's many children to adulthood, and helping his uncle select and groom his wives/champions.

The last being you find noteworthy is not a god, but a five headed Daemon called Legion of Secrets. Legion of Secrets serves the Abyssal Pantheon as a Source, or being tasked with establishing and maintaining magical frameworks that mortal members of their cult may use to preform great deeds.

Eventually everybody eats their fill, and a window presents itself for you to start some conversations.

Who do you want to talk with?
A: Bark-Ark, the Lord of the Dead
B: Ore, the king of the Abyssal Pantheon
C: Morayi, the queen of the Abyssal Pantheon
D: Captooth, babysitter to the gods
E: Legion of Secrets, the Daemon master of magic

What do you want to talk about?
A: How I may be of use to them
B: My problems with other local deities and pantheons
C: The affairs of our respective mortal followers
D: The open position in my pantheon
E: The world we inhabit

Although it may seem from appearances that we have little in common, the wise goddess knows that "girl talk" trumps everything.
Plus chatting up a goddess of war may net some tips for our upcoming little scuffle.

You pull up a chair next to Morayi, and start talking about the affairs of your respective mortal followers.

With some prodding the brutish goddess explains the makeup of Pantheon's worshipers. Ore is primarily worshiped by the White Giants, a race of massive sentient toothed whales that are small in number by large in size and in deed. The White Giants, she explains, are the true masters of the sea, and have bullied many a bottom-dwelling race into worshiping their gods.

Morayi explains that some of the more aggressive and warlike of the bottom-dwelling races worship her directly. She weaves you tales of the ponderous yet venomous coneshellfolk, the magically talented Coralmaids, and the utterly ruthless ripper crabs. The followers that interest you most, however, are the Kappa and the Cucumberlin.

The Kappa, Morayi explain, are amphibious creatures that live amoung the tides and victimize surface dwellers. They are highly warlike, and have a degree of magical talent. They raise a race of dumb yet fertile vegetable people called the Cucumberlin as slaves and occasional meals. About three centuries ago, she explains, the surface races launched a great purge, and drove the Kappa to near extinction; The only population that remains is actually near the woods in which you make your home, living on the thin stretch of land between the trees and the waves. The Goddess ominously hints that the impassable forest is the only thing keeping the Kappa from seeking their revenge upon the world!

Then talk shifts to your followers, and the troubles they face.

A wicked grin spreads across the face of Morayi. "I despise the pantheon of the dwarves more than anything, but my husband forbids me from openly making war upon them. I will gladly help your followers slaughter theirs! How may I be of service?"

A: Send my people a great champion to aid in their struggle!
B: Send a legion of Kappa to attack the damned confederacy!
C: Make my people a mighty artifact!
D: Actually, I was hoping to resolve this matter peacefully. Can we talk about something else. (See the last post, and pick a different topic)
E: Actually, I was hoping to resolve this matter peacefully. Perhaps I should talk to somebody else. (See the last post, and pick a different conversation partner and topic)

The dog behind the man behind the beard.
Immortality like that would be even more game breaking than four Aaron's in one place.
You're both so obviously scum that this is a surprisingly difficult decision.

Asking for a troop of vengeful militaristic slavers who don't worship us sounds like the sort of thing that could not possibly go wrong. [/sarcasm]
