Turn 14: It's Back.

narrows eyes ... sure.
Place the knife on the counter and initiate trading minigame.

[hidden]

You hand your black knife to the old merchant. He gladly accepts it and leaves some items on the table. He syas that you may grab only one of these.

-A mortar filled with a strange, greenish ointment.
-A scintillating, crystal clear gem similar to a diamond.
-An old, leather bound tome.

"Hello?"
Look for a window. Peek inside.

((All of the chapel windows are boarded, that's why it's so dark inside.))
If I can change my action: Look for a door that's open. Peek inside.

[6] - You go around the chapel, distancing yourself from the others as you search for an alternate entrance. You start moving towards the back of the chapel and notice there is a large graveyard right behind it. Many of the tombstones are damaged or missing, and many of the graves seem to have been opened recently. As you are going around the corner of the chapel, you trip onto something and fall to the ground.

You look foward and realize that the thing you tripped on was a half eaten human arm. And next to it, is a large humanoid covered in robes, eating a rotten body. In the way it bends it's limbs, you know it's not human. And also because it's literally eating a years old corpse filled with worms and insects. This so disgusting you have to make a big effort to not vomit or scream.

The thing that's eating the human hasn't noticed you yet, as it has it's back towards you. In front of it and before the back chapel wall, there's a hole in the ground with some stairs that descend somewhere below the chapel.

Spoiler: Hastur (click to show/hide)

Look around for something to weaponise.

[4] - You pull one of the wooden boards on the windows and decide to use it as a weapon. You are now holding a wooden board with both of your hands. As a plus, it has a couple of sharp nails on it.

search for another way to infiltrate the church. There has to be a second way in...

[4] - You follow Nathaniel behind the chapel. You find the same stuff as him (desecrated graveyard, missing graves, that sort of stuff.) As Nathaniel is turning the corner to the wall directly behind the chapel, Nathaniel trips on something and falls to the round with a nauseated look. You can't quite see what did he trip on or what did he see, as it's on the other side of the corner.  You can smell rotten corpses, though.

continue searching

[3] - You follow Mallo from a distance, but because of your bullet wound, you can't move quite fast as them. You current pace is that of a slow walking person, even with the cultist help. You see Nathaniel disappearing behind a corner in the distance and Mallo suddenly stopping in his tracks. You hear the noise of flesh being torn appart and consumed...

"I think something's wrong... Can you walk by yourself?"

Look again for gas and matches! The fire cleanses all!

[3] - Since you can't find any source of gas near the chapel, you decide to leave the area altogether and search for a gas station by yourself.

...

You are currently exploring another, less abandoned abandoned part of the city, searching for a gas station. You haven't found anything.

Spoiler: Hastur (click to show/hide)

I figure at some point, you're just gonna run outta fucks to give and just off yourself whenever you get hurt at all. It's not like there's any downsides to it. Hangover? Suicide will fix that. Stubbed your toe? Suicide. Headache? Suicide. Papercut? Suicide.

The trader refuses to answer any questions.

Turn 15: Ghouls 'n More Friendly Fire

concider how to get past it without alerting it to my presence. Alternatively, try to get past it when someone else distracts it.

[6] - You silently move around the corner and see a humanoid similar to the one inside of the chapel, wearing torn, dark green robes and consuming a rotten body. You are right behind him when you hear Nathaniel fall to the ground. You quickly turn to see what happened with him, and are interrupted by a sword stabbing your foot. It didn't cut very deeply, but walking hurts now.

You also feel the ghoul starting to become alert. He is still focused on eating the dead body, but he has slowed down considerably. You think you can rush down the stairs next to the ghoul if you are quick, but it will notice. You could also try using the sword and attack it from behind, but the ghoul is just out of reach and so you would have to move towards it.

Attempt to remember any protective spell, rite or ward from egyptian book of the dead.

[4] - You remember an old protection rune you saw during your studies. This odd symbol was a straight line with 5 branches, and it was called the "Elder Sign" by the book of the dead. It was said to protect from evil spirits from beyond, so if you are ever attacked by an evil spirit, you can just draw one of these in a paper using a pen.

Decapitate the creature, it's a zombie!

[1] - You lunge at the monster with all of your might! Unfortunately, you are so focused on the head of the monster that you don't notice the small pool of blood on the round you slip onto. As you fall, your sword is thrown in the air and lands in Mallo's foot, who was trying to sneak past the creature. The "zombie" did't notice the event at all, but you know that if anyone else makes another sound, it will be alerted.

"We could be fighting ze heretics. Or we could be burning them to death with fire. I am preferring the second option. Much cleaner and with less risk of self harm."

Gas. Matches. Lighter. Search.

[3] - You find yourself on a gas station. You are about to buy some gas for your pyromantic plan, but you realize you don't have any money on your pockets. You find yourself holding your gun instead.

Hey, it was worth a shot.

Pick the gem.

[hidden]

You grab the gem. It starts glowing even more than before, and it's very hard to see. You try to cover it with something, but the rainbow light it's so blinding you can't even see your surroundings anymore.

You finally manage to cover it with your body and notice that you are back in the old cell. It's still pitch-black and you swear the room is even more darker than before. You feel the cold gem resting by your side and you realize someone removed your bindings. You carefully feel your surroundings with your hands and notice that your cell it's still closed.

You go on ahead. I'll stay back here and stand guard

Sit down and attempt to read the Book of Eibon

"Yeah, alright. I gotta make sure those rookies don't get themselves killed. Be careful with that leg!"

[5] - You sit on the ground while the Nyarlathotep cultist runs to where everyone else is. You carefully open the old book and start to scan it for useful information. You find a fragment speaking about an acient deity called "Zhothaqquah", Eibon's patron deity. It describes it as an amorphous, toad-like divine being served by his equally formless spawn. These servitors were black polymorphic creatures that guarded the sacred temples of the toad god cult. The book describes these creatures in very high detail.

Knowledge gained: Formless Spawn: I

You are interrupted by some noises coming from the back of the chapel. You stop reading and notice that only Russel remains with you at the entrance of the chapel.

The cultist arrives where Mallo and Nathaniel are. She's about to say something, but freezes when she notices the ghoul. She slowly draws a dagger from her robes and waits for either to react.

Kick the creature in the back. Try to knock it over, so that it will be unable to move.
