"So, about that neat trick I was going to mention earlier before they all reanimated. In my experience, magic tends to treat hostile nanites like any other pathogen. So if anyone's got spells to cure or protect from disease, we're golden. Well, we'd still have to worry about corpse puppets. But the nanocloud itself couldn't affect us. So, No, Avi, Resalth, whatcha got?"

"Espada and I both have dedicated immunization organs. We are at less risk than you Baselines. To my knowledge Espada is not specced for medical duties and I most definitely am not. Respeccing is not plausible within a reasonable amount of time."

Espada looks rather worried, still holding the unconscious Jaden. "I'm not sure if even our augmented immunology is up to the task, though, and I would really, really, REALLY, really rather not test that." Espada shows strong desire to vacate the area ASAP, not even staying around long enough to dispose of the bodies. "If you wouldn't mind, a bubble would be nice."

"I have a spell to cleanse diseases from one person at a time. I should be able to cast it a few times before I need to replenish myself. I may have another spell charged that would provide resistance to infection, I shall take a minute to review..." Resalth closes his eyes.

"Alright, alright, that's something. How about you, No? And yes, let's move away from the bodies for now."

"Give me some time to prepare and I could curse the nanites to do the opposite of what they were intended to do, or just make them cease to function."

"The latter sounds safer. Given that we're not sure what-all they're supposed to do and what counts as opposite. Is that something you could prepare once and use multiple times, or would you need to take some time with any other instance of these things we might run into?"

"I would need to take time for each time the machines occur. Unless you're willing to stop here for a while so I can use a ritual, which might enable me to create something to repeatedly counteract these nanobots. It would be a little less safe, however, with the risk of the ritual running out of sacrifices before sufficient power is generated."

"Not like human sacrifices or anything. A sacrifice is an object relevant to a certain affinity in some manner. For example, a mage with the Axe affinity could use an axe as a sacrifice."

"But if your affinity is curses, does that mean you need to burn curses to make curses?"

"Something like that. An ideal sacrifice for my affinity would be something cursed, preferably cursed with a curse related to the effect I'm trying to achieve with the ritual."

"I think we're a bit short on those right now."

"Er, time is a bit of a factor here... If you can neutralize the ones in this area that would be very reassuring. How much time will the non-ritual way take?"

Stepping out from behind the boulder, Rajita just stares at where the soldiers were, dumbfounded.
