There have been more than a few questions around this subject. I wouldn't be surprised if it comes to light that Trump ordered defense forces to stand down in advance of the event.

The budget for that specific building/compound (+the library of congress) is something like $100 USD per square meter per year, yeah. Around half a billion annually to (fail to, it seems) protect about two square miles. With a personnel count of around 2k officers with normal jurisdiction over it.

Apparently a lot of them were put off duty for that day... some of them joining in on the coup attempt that's left a cop and four rioters dead, of course.

Not in any phonetic structure I'm familiar with, heh. "One (1) cop (1) and (1) four (1) rioters (3) left (1) dead (1)" is nine, "Two (1) deaths (1), three (1) incidental (4) but (1) nonviolent (4) deaths (1)" is thirteen.

... as for something of more actual substance, not entirely sure the latter were all incidental or exactly nonviolent, either, though. They certainly weren't incidental to the attack, and at the absolute least the ones induced by self-inflicted taser and reaction to a flashbang, iirc, are questionably nonviolent. They just weren't due to direct trauma (caused by someone else, I guess) of some sort.

Though, uh. Was the junk zapper actually confirmed? Had heard about that, but at the time folks were saying the particular area tazed was rumored but not actually confirmed.

I've actually discussed that with my wife. I can just imagine the incubation period going by, Biden taking the seat, a bunch of riot attendees becoming sick and dying, and that feeding the fire because that "obviously" means that Biden caused it, resulting in a new round of riots and doubling down.

Trump again apparently asking about self-pardon. I once saw it argued that Burdick v United States and the way pardons are written means that to accept the pardon he'd have to either be tried or admit to guilt, a pardon being an admission of guilt and grant of forgiveness for the crime being pardoned.

So basically, "You can go free if you admit you were wrong". I think his head might explode.
