What about the non-unique properties of the slime mentioned in the book? Also, where does the slime mentioned come from/how is it made? If nothing can be gained from pondering this, take a look at the potential sink hole, and reason if there are any distinguishing factors, etc. that can tell where a sinkhole is in advance, maybe why there could be sinkholes.
Arcodo ponders on the slime, but nothing could really be gained by doing such. It's a normal slime, they move around and hunt prey that are smaller than themselves for sustenance. Onto the sinkhole, Arcodo comes closer to examine the spot where it appeared before suddenly closing. It's some sort of trap mechanism that resembles a metallic jaw-like contraption made of sharply-edged rusty metal that looks like it would be awful painful. Arcodo [1]knows this from experience as it closes on his left ankle, completely and cleanly severing it as he falls backwards into the sludge. The metallic grinding noises amplify and become more frequent as the jaw makes a motion that grinds the Literi's leg into little strips of slimy paper. Bleeding ink from the wound, he notices the pain is growing worse as seconds pass. Speaking of seconds, everything seems to be moving so slowly... as the pain consumes his mind, [6]Arcodo fights the urge to pass out and ponders how he's going to get this pain to end.
"It seems safe, so, once more unto th' breach, then!"
Quicken my pace, and advance up the hill.
Y4R-M8 begins to quickly advance up the hill. As he nears the top, he hears Arcodo's cry of pain and the same metal grinding noises as before. Turning around, he wonders if he should help the Literi before noticing an unusual feeling on the back of his robotic neck. From the other side of the hill, a man wearing a heavily torn mage's robe comes into view as he reaches the top and Y4R whips around to face the source of his discomfort. Taking in the way he shuffles along, he figures that he must be in a similar condition to the maddened elf that he slew mere moments ago. This one looks far more composed though, and speaks in coherent sentences too! "Master Ax will be delighted to know that we have Visitors.. but I can't leave to inform him before tasting your pain for myself. The paper-man at the bottom of the hill's cry of pain was like one of those exquisite Earth-world wines". Producing a curved dagger, he grins and a small rhinocerous beetle crawls out of his mouth.
Summon a syringe full of powerful painkillers and a small jar of panacea. Use the pain killer on Mopey's leg, then yank out the glass and use the Panacea to heal the wounds. Once this is done, summon a gameboy with an included set of batteries and tetris cartridge. Play while waiting for any survivors to show up.
Reconsider which of these portals is best. Reconsider just living here.
[2+1]Mr Bones attempts to summon a syringe full of prescription-grade painkillers, but only gets a small bottle of
Tylenol. He'd sigh if he had lungs, but for now decides to just rattle his bones in a frustrated manner. [2+1]Panacea? Pfft, Mr Bones could only hope. He produces a jar of leeches rather than the miracle cure he hoped for. Giving Menuridae some Tylenol to swallow, he begins pulling out the many glass shards and the siren thrashes slightly at the pain. After the ordeal is done, he clicks his teeth together and tries summoning a gameboy for recreational purposes. [3+1]The skeleton conjures a gameboy, but it lacks both a game cartridge and batteries. Setting the gameboy down, the boner contemplates which gate contains the most survivable environment. From what he can tell, the very gate he just left is the best option currently- Menuridae will likely die if she goes back in and Larry is just about equally vulnerable to the environment but the rest of the group (including himself)will be all but immune to the sharp environment due to their physiological nature. Mr Bones can see where living in the Hub may be an option, but he'd likely end up in a situation similar to Phantus and spend eternity here- whether that is appealing or not is up to him.
If the panacea fails to work see about healing up the leg with some crystal integration.
((Noooo, don't do it PW, think of the will rolls ))
Trier, seeing the miserable and unethical procedure Mr Bones attempted on the poor siren Menuridae, decides to take advantage of his crystalline nature and attempt to integrate part of himself with the wounds in her leg. [3+1]Although painful enough to render her unconscious, the process of crystal integration closes her wounds. It is very likely she won't be able to walk on it for some time, but bleeding to death poses no threat to her mortality thanks to Trier.
Go back through the gate. Summon up another mech animal, this time one that can integrate with my suit to give me flight capability, a way to track invisible and ethereal things, higher defence, and the ability to damage ethereal things like those golems and the guy in the glass. If I get attacked before I can get through the gate, fire on my attackers with my chimera.
Tobias tries to leave the glass dimension, but [1]sees the same figure from before reflected in the glass near the gate. The reflection moves out of his sight so fast, he is doubtful that it obeys normal laws of physics. Out of the blue, his mech-suit's visor shatters into pieces. The shards reflect the exact same figure, who he now is 100% sure has no material counterpart. [4]Steering the mech through the gate as fast as possible, a long and shallow cut appears on his forehead just as he crosses the threshold.
Tobias appears out of the gate, a wound across his forehead dripping blood down his face. He one-handedly gestures while inside his mech-suit and [4+2] summons a humongous mech-hawk that screeches loudly and integrates with his mech suit as a pair of steel wings. ((Tobias has reached his summoning limit now that he is maintaining both a mecha-chimera and a mecha-hawk's existance on this plane.)) He notices a dialogue box on the small screen mounted to the right of his head. "
INTEGRATION COMPLETE. ASSISTED TARGETING MODULE IMPROVED."
"Alright, but let me just try and summon something to help us.
Try and create a fire elemental. If successful, make sure that its positioned in front of the group. Fire elemental or none, advance up the hill carefully.
Recalling a method of elemental creation, [6+1]Crimson composes a greater fire elemental from jets of flame emitting from his fingertips. It forms in a blazing whirl-wind of sorts, immediately darting towards the odd character that has appeared on the hill and drawn a dagger on Y4R. Crimson, seeing his elemental go after them and leave burnt footprints on the wilted grassy slope, notices their presence as well.
Try again with Mr. Bone's help to patch up the wound, then enjoy the morphine high if he's successful at summoning that shit.
Menuridae feebly reaches out to her wounded leg as she passes out, strongly disappointed in the lack of a morphine high. At least Trier managed to close her wounds.
I Stick my Head through the portal and yell "The Monsters are Dead and the place ain't fallin into its self, Now get back over here!"
Before Wandering around looking for Loot.
"The Monsters are Dead and the place ain't fallin into its self, Now get back over here!" Larry yells, somewhat unaware of what just caused Tobias to run.
After pulling his head back through, Larry starts wandering around the chamber in search of loot. Two sapphires the size of marbles are rest in the piles of glass where the two golems once stood. Picking them both up and shoving them somewhere they would be safe, he startles slightly as his spirit wolf barks at a reflection in the glass below the goblin shaman. [6]Larry leaps back, cracking some glass beneath his feet as he lands. Somehow, it hasn't cut into him. Looking for the source of his spirit wolf's distress, he sees a hooded figure wielding a shining blue dagger in the glass where he was standing a moment ago. It begins to move towards Larry's reflection (which looks oddly three-dimensional in the glass beneath his feet), and disappears. His spirit wolf is going berserk now, running from one side of the cavern to the other barking as though it has noticed the presence of something he can't see.
