Last year was pretty tough. Most of your social opportunities in school have been exhausted, you've lost a lot of your drive to do homework, and you've faced one of the biggest existential crisis's of your life. Still, it's not all bad though. Soon you'll be able to leave it all behind and start over. For other good things, you broke your streak of each summer being worse than the last, you finally got a gaming PC, despite your lack of drive to do homework your grades are at an all-time high, and you finally met a girl who had a crush on you (whether you reciprocate though is another matter entirely). Hang in there, better things are coming soon.

So, some questions now.

How are things going between you and her? Did you get close? Did you break off contact with her? Did you meet someone else (Unlikely)?
How is University? Is it the salvation from high school everyone told you it would be or is it more of the same (or worse)? Did you get into a good program or are you on the path to wasting another 4 years of your life?
Did you resolve your existential crisis?
Did you work out and get the body you wanted?

I'm writing this the day I went to the Tensuke Market with D, L, and C, and got some delicious soba noodles with pork gyoza and some Kakurei Daiginjo sake, plus some lychee flavored soda. It tasted sort of like mandarin oranges but with a bit of a sour/bitter note. Anyway, to business.

1) Are you driving again yet? You'd damn well better be.
2) 2015 Baffler wrote me a message asking how things went with "that friend. You know who I mean." and that was unhelpful since I didn't know who he meant. So no cryptic messages here, except the one at the end.
3) Don't tolerate D's nonsense.
4) How're the living arrangements? Things are sort of up in the air now and I'd like to hear from you about it.

A gorilla goes into a bar and orders a martini. This totally amazes the bartender, but he thinks, "What the heck, I guess I might as well make the drink." So he mixes the martini. He then walks back over to the give it to the gorilla, and the animal is holding out a twenty-dollar bill. Well, now the bartender is just at a loss for words. He can't believe that a gorilla walked into his bar, ordered a martini, and then actually had a twenty-dollar bill to pay for it.
So, in amazement, he takes the twenty and walks to the cash register to make the change. While he's standing in front of the cash register he stops for a second and thinks to himself, "Let me try something here and see if the gorilla notices anything."
So he walks back over to the gorilla and hands him a dollar change. The gorilla doesn't say anything, he just sits there sipping the martini. After a few minutes the bartender just can't take it anymore.
"You know," he says to the gorilla, "we don't get too many gorillas in here."
And the gorilla says, "At nineteen dollars a drink I'm not surprised."

 I'm reasonably willing to be that this year, like the last, will be pretty crazy, and pretty depressing. On the bright side, it was probably pretty damn entertaining. Just try to remember that four, or eight years (too early to tell) isn't all that long in the grand scheme of things, even just in your/my lifetime. Just keep remembering that.

On a much brighter note, it looks like it's about to snow, so that should be fun. Maybe if we're really lucky, it'll be about to when you read this next year. A man can dream, right?

Also, you'll hopefully be driving by the time you read this, if all goes well. Good luck with that.

So. How's life? Can't be too much worse than current, short of extremely painful terminal illnesses. Best friend dying, then your dog, then you come home from a trip to a place you hate to a flat tire, a messy house, and a pile of stale candy-cane donuts. But enough about your past, let's talk about your present.

I hope you haven't forgotten her; you know, your love and all that shit. You should probably still visit the grave sometime, if you haven't already. Hopefully things have healed enough that it's.... doable. at least.

How's the job situation? Still unemployed? Had any work at all?

Done any side projects? CNC stuff, coding, anything?

Have you kept in touch with people? Y'know, all the church folks, your old coworkers, hell even the guilds and such from the rest of the internet.

Learn any languages? Working on your Spanish counts, it's atrocious enough right now.

Get any pets? I know after the last couple died life's been rough, but maybe time's helped heal those wounds. Or maybe not. Who knows.

How's the political situation? Trump's getting inaugurated soon, which is.... very interesting, to say the least. Here's hoping things haven't gone too far off the deep end.
