And back to missiles, we have guidance systems that we can't use for some reason, and guidance systems that don't exist. And ideas for altering the latter, or making the use of existing guidance systems more palatable?

Are you talking about the gyroscopes in the Death Ball? Otherwise, pigeons!
But in all seriousness, how 'bout pinpointing UFOs with radio/radar beams, and sending the missile off to the signal?

If we did, +1, but I think they either got scrambled by the tractor beam or got blown out into space.
This is a normal discussion, folks.

We can probably do that. Another idea(for shorter range stuff) is wire guidance or (for slightly longer range stuff) radio guidance.

However, we got alot of other stuff we still need to do, including a fair amount of stuff that has little to do with the alium dooshery. Namely, protecting ourselves and our new, rather distant islands safe from plain old terrestrial dooshery.

Well I am all in favour of exploiting the rules. I do not recall any expense limit on the cargo craft(it just needed a cargo space of 2?) so lets just build a cargo submarine with a couple of torpedoes slung over the sides. Basic defence when fielded in numbers and used in ambush, and can handle mild blockade-running if the ambush plan fails but we still have effective ground-forces...

We would need to shove a snorkel on it at the least, and make it as painful to find from the air as possible, but I do like that idea.

Hey Funk, you still want to run a two-side version of this?  Because I just came up with a way that could happen.  I'll pm the details if you still are interested...

How would a gyroscope guide? And could a pigeon steer a missile? I was thinking of the same guidance system that we use in all our existing vehicles, such as our tanks, interceptors, bombers... The enemy is almost certainly too fast and agile for missiles that are cannot course-correct in-flight. I suppose that we could try to get something that pings for radar contacts, outputs a basic directional signal, and shifts the steering a little to compensate, and it cold even zero the steering between pulses. I would expect that all of that could be achieved mechanically, except for the radar itself, but it would be frightfully simple in its abilities and I doubt that it could be housed in an effective missile...

And could a pigeon steer a missile?

Yes it's been tried, and it was almost used in ww2.
Here's a shot video on it.

To keep this a bit active while waiting on a replacement GM or for the time I finally manage to get free time, let's have people make a short 'Things Forenian Engineers Are No Longer Allowed To Do' list.  Should be at least a couple interesting ones that could be thought up to give insight into life at the Department of Engineers.  Maybe include a short, at least one sentence, excerpt to give a bit of detail as to the event that caused the rule to be added.  I'll leave the starting off to someone else.

7) Former Moskurgan Engineers are to halt their attempts to mount rocket launchers on top of tigers and then attempt to train them to fire them at former Arstotzkan Engineers as a petty act of revenge.
7a) Even if the launchers only fire smoke grenades.
7b) Former Arstotzkan Engineers are not to attempt this against former Moskurgan Engineers.
7c) Former Moskurgan Engineers are not to attempt this against other former Moskurgan Engineers.
