"Would it really be so practical to have every single bladed weapon recorded, significantly unique weapons of a certain type may work better? Is the issue at hand with analyzing and saving, with the core fact that it's active all the time, or something else that's taking so much energy?"

"It's a combination of those factors. I'm not particularly worried about it recording mundane weapons, since, by dint of being mundane, they are simple and do not take much effort to analyze. It's also focused on swords, since I seem to have an easier time working with them than other weapons, and therefore it -should- be easier to develop this spell as well."

"I must wonder... why analyze each bladed weapon magically? The only blades you wouldn't be able to analyze closely yourself are blades used against you, and bladed weapons may not even be a particularly large fraction of what you face."

Maybe I should don my armor, get my gloves ready. Just in case we end up needing to fight.

Edwinn pauses and takes a large bite of his sandwich.
"Are you sure we need even need to?" Arane asks slightly confused with the situation.

"Ah, but that's precisely the reason. If I encounter a weapon that has a unique construction or magical effect attached, I could analyze and recreate it within moments and add it to my own arsenal. Moreover, given the time, I could even create unique weapons based on the data I gather. Magic also has the benefits of not being restricted by the mundane senses; you can't tell the exact elemental composition of a blade with a mere glance or hearing the ring of it, but such a feat is relatively simple given the right spell."

"That does sound useful, then, the way you put it. Would you be able to use this to copy an opponent's blade midbattle, and use it on him-- would it be that fast?"

"Indeed. And the weapons of his compatriots. Of course this all assumes I can work out the kinks with it."

Isla paused, put her hand on her chin, and begin to look at Sasaki with sudden (kind of eager...?) intensity. "Could be used quite tactically, too. Would you say that you have any tactical talent?"

Well, Arane, I'm not sure we need to, but I'm feeling a growing sense of uncertainty about the situation.
"Good point Edwinn." Arane looks around for a place to hide in the room, if the need to launch a surprise attack should arise.

"I wouldn't call myself a master tactician, but I do have a passing ability to develop strategies in battle that I plan on improving at this school. Why do you ask?" He glances back at Isla somewhat dubiously in response to her look.

"That portal is only going to open when the incursion is dealt with, I think is the point of that sign...

We probably won't need to fight, although, I might be busy..."

"Did someone say tactician?" Rustle asks as a massive manuscript appears out of nowhere in front of him, unfurling its pages.

"A King? Like someone who stays in the rear and commands the battle while his pawns, I mean troops, go off into the front lines? Because I'm planning on doing something like that. This Playbook here allows me to discover the formations that are going to lead our team to victory."
