After a long and winding journey to the bowels of the Earth, the incoming students have finally arrived at the portal's antechamber.

There is a small assortment of refreshments set up on a folding table, in rather extreme contrast to the ancient, though well-maintained, stonework.

A sign is placed in the empty portal frame:

'Incursion attempt in progress, please wait for
0:0:59:55
0:0:59:54
0:0:59:53
0:0:59:52
while we deal with it.'

The sign continues to tick downwards, occasionally juddering back or forward.

[Chevaleresse]

A teenager, somewhat on the tall side, stands near the portal, stretching his arms out. He's wearing a set of expensive-looking headphones atop a rather unusual-looking outfit, complete with cape, and bobs his head occasionally to a beat.

[Kassire]

An obviously human teen dressed-up in a brown fall coat, a blue dress shirt with tie, and charcoal dress-pants looks around the room, noting the stonework. He runs his hands over the grooves, seemingly interested in the old masonry.

"Quite the interesting place we've found ourselves in."

[TheBiggerFish]

A girl stands to the side, watching the portal, her hands wrapped in what looks to be that tape or whatever that boxers use?  She's surprisingly normal, other than that.  Her hair's tied in a ponytail.

"Why's the timer going back and forth?"

[Chevaleresse]

"Probably some kind of temportal flux because of all the magic in the area. That or they're not actually sure how long it's gonna take." The headphones don't seem to be interfering with the blonde's ability to hear.

Another teenage girl sits against the wall, in a tight set of black sweatshirt and pants. She looks like a brown haired human... except for the fact that black armor plates are visible on the backs of her hands, and up her lower jaw and cheeks, and the ridges of similar carapace plates make bumps in her clothing.
"They are battling an incursion -- the time is an estimate and not an end limit."

[Kassire]

The rather well-dressed teenager looks over to the others and then apathetically replies

"Perhaps the attention should be placed at the expected duration of the incursion, an hour of standing around out here doesn't seem to be the most delightful time I think I could have."

[Shadestyle]

A young looking man in a thick shroud of rags stands outside the gate, a well maintained leather bookbag held over his shoulder, full to the brim, he has a travel case as well, which is equally stuffed.

"It's not like we've not been traveling for a whole day.  And there is food.

I guess that makes sense, um...Did I ever ask your name?  The both of you."

[Chevaleresse]

The blonde-haired teenager - are those cat ears or just hair? - sighs. "Hopefully that's the conservative estimate on how long this will take.

Oh, it's Sasaki Nobunaga. How about you?"

[Kassire]

"You did not, my name is Joshua, Joshua Rees." Joshua answers, before taking a short bow.

[TheBiggerFish]

"I'm Nia Belden."

[Kassire]

"Quite the interesting group we have here, and hopefully an equally interesting conversation to have." says Joshua before setting down his rucksack and perusing the stock of drinks at the refreshments table.

[Chevaleresse]

Nobunaga nods. "Good to meet you.

Interesting, huh? I suppose the people here would have to be. So, what brings everyone here?"

The refreshments are mostly common stuff, though anyone with special dietary needs has something they could eat or drink.



"I'm mostly a healer.  But I actually store the injuries I heal, and then I can sort of, like, reinflict them?"
