The fact that the fort suffered so few losses suggests the spawn should be modded to be more dangerous. It ain't equal fight 'till it's eye for an eye.

Not just no, but hell no.

They were actually debuffed because thier jacked up agility and lack of any status maluses meant it was nearly impossible to fight them head on in the newer versions.

98 killed, one captured for... 28 losses? Plus about three discharged for missing limb reasons.

The fact we suffered that many casualties brings unknowable amounts of shame to our ancestors.

What!? A fort with no brutal killings is no !!FUN!! for Armok! It rather fits a pancy-ass tree-hugging elf!

Give blood! Give gore! Give madness and struggle! Give existential drama!

Currently the only way we can fight them is head to head. I am working on correcting that.

The issue is that if you face massive spawn sieges yearly head-on, Splint, you should lose through attrition (only what, 30-60 or so migrants a year?) because spawns are spawns of holistic detective while you have merely normal dwarves ;)

"Our guys took down four of them for each of us" doesn't exactly send that message. Have to make like Syrupleaf and actually use traps and entrenched positions.

We actually made a conscious effort to make them more like the Syrupleaf versions and if they just wiped nearly the entire militia, we seriously fucked up somewhere on our training.

EDIT: To put a point on it, they were tough as hell in 34.11, only able to be beaten by a necromancer-backed army of the undead or soldiers who spent ten years fighting them (of which, there was what, six out of a metric fuckton that had survived the whole way through once the attacks began?) in addition to things like pulping not being a thing and the like.

In this version, as said, we had to actively debuff them so they would be survivable in any confrontation at all. Even the best soldiers would be killed by raw blunt force trauma - Tests had them killing soldiers with two bruising shots to a steel helmet, among other things, and this was before torsion damage and AI being smart enough to remove helmets to land a fatal skull buster.

...so the pre-nerf spawn are super-hardcore mode on top of Dwarf Fortress's normal amount of hardcore.

At this point, Spawn Clowns will need to be modded in simply to make the circus actually worse than the surface. Everoc Dwarves go to the Circus for vacation, as is.

In other news, I am still slowly plugging away at the turn. Just with slightly more work getting in the way than normal.

Syrupleaf I seem to recall had "Greater Spawn" that were basically just spawn that came in along with the demons and were easily capable of fighting one on one with multi-legendary dwarves in adamantine armor.

So make those those?  Sounds like a good idea.

Bit late, we already have those. Can be seen in the caverns sometimes if memory serves (having long since escaped onto the surface because of certain stupid dorfs.) Flying variety may also come out of the underworld.

Yes, ours can fly.
