And honestly it wasn't a terrible game. It had some fun bits and the theme could have been interesting.

But tying it to xcom caused people to judge it differently.

At the time The Bureau was announced, new XCOM hadn't come out yet so the idea of expanding Xcom to other genres besides turn based was going against what people were wanting.
I really did like the first video they put out of that game, the amorpheous black blob that possessed people and the giant shifting monolith gave the idea to me that the game would be about uncovering alien conspiracies while keeping a low profile with the aliens working against you in the shadows, kind of like Deus Ex in a way. The third person squad shooter aspect felt like it didn't capitalise on potential subtleties.

As for DoWIII, I would like if it was more similar to DoW 1 than 2, but even DoW2 is enjoyable as long as they change the core gameplay from capturing points to destroying the enemies base. The A.I. not wanting to directly attack you unless it controlled every point meant conflict was more of a passing moment than a central struggle.

Its like that shooter xcom 2k made recentish. It might've been alright, but no one wanted it pre-nuCom 1, and no one cared about it afterwards, so it probably sold terribly.
It was also a horribly boring cover-shooter that rewrote the story to make it centered around the US (and set in the 60s so they could find a use for left-over Bioshock 2 assets, or at least that's my theory).

Also tiny squad sizes and minimal squads with tiny ass maps...why? Why? I cant understand...the RPGish aspects were not good enough to justify it in my mind...large maps and big battles or very detailed RPG with fewer units...make up your damn mind.

The way the universe works I was hoping for large maps with lots of units that had at least simple leveling mechanics...seems neither of each happened got small ass maps with very few units with weak (but not completely basic simple) leveling mechanics

Rise from your grave, thread!

Eldar units have been detailed. Apparently Farseer Taldeer is now a Wraithlord.

Ah, umi. Probably not the best idea to link that one. Porn, forum TOS, etc., etc.

The article can't make up its mind on whether she's a Wraithlord or a Wraithknight. Probably the latter. It'd mean Ronahn is back too, but extra stompy.

Also Shadow Spectres are in, which means Forgeworld stuff can make it in. Interesting.

The size alone screams Wraithknight, but yeah they've got a good selection going on, Unit list: Dire Avengers, Banshees, Dark Reapers, Rangers, Shadow Spectres, Wraithknight, Wraithblades, Farseer Macha with Singing Spear, Wraithlord, Wraithguard, Vypers, Grav Vehicle (Likely Either Fire Prism or Serpent)  And... Jain Zar!? I swear they have a vid of a Banshee Exarch that has the hair and with the gear..

But yeah the Wraithknight thing would be interesting, since it would mean that the Pathfinder/Ranger brother willingly is letting himself be used to help control the Wraithknight (Typically ones in a near coma)

Revive.

So the "open" (closed) beta is out.

Did you guys know the MP battles in this game involve trying to defeat your enemy's Nexus after pushing down some lanes and towers? Because that's what's happening here.

I... I don't want to judge it too harshly since I haven't played it yet but... goddamn... are you serious? I thought the MOBA thing was just limited to heroes and that stupid cover bubble thing. Not THE ENTIRE GAME.

I've played some today, got a key from a streamer. This beta is streamable but closed, from what I recall the open one starts on the... 21st? I'm not entirely sure, but it's not quite yet.

I've played very little Warcraft 3, but honestly that's how it feels. You push forward, take resources, and then amass an army with heroes to lead it. You can't do without the army, they bring a lot of the dps. You can't do without the heroes, they bring disruption, utility and considerable combat power.

I suppose that WC3 was part of the genesis of mobas, so I can see how it feels moba-y.

I think DoW1-esque cover would be a nice addition to go with the invulnacover and invisicover that's currently in? Cover does feel a bit lacking. The game has too many squads running around when you're at max squadcap to make DoW2/CoH-esque cover remotely viable, though.

It's fun so far, and that's from someone who dislikes mobas. This beta might just convince me to buy it.

Called it, not an hour ago, when my friend was like "hey have you seen anything about DoW 3? Looks pretty cool." And I said "It's basically a Moba. I guarantee MP will be a full blown Moba."

So go me.

Cooking Directions:

Set stove-top to high.

Introduce DoW3 to Scoopz.

Place Scoopz in cooking pot; place pot over high heat.

Set until Scoopz' blood boiling.

Admit DoW3 is a MOBA and that GWS and Relic may be run separately by Hitler's two great grandnephews.

DoW 2 had a lot more MOBA elements than DoW 3, so please stop calling DoW 3 a MOBA.
