Sounds like a new VA for Gabriel Angelos.

Cover is now an indestructible mystic bubble of energy building you stand inside. We've gone from DoW 1's map built cover to magic cover blobs. They aren't even trying anymore.

Like, after having played DOW 1 and DOW 2, hearing this guy go "These assault marine are going to jump that cover point the Eldar are trying to take. That's one of the clear roles for melee units" just sounds trite and boring.

I guess the way respawns work is you just queue up spawns into your drop pods at your base and then they.....magically launch back into orbit before coming back down on the battlefield? Does that even make sense? While this is just a campaign mission, the message I'm getting is that game is all about non-stop pushing forward and refilling yourself on spawns as you go, using respawns as artillery and making sure your super units don't die.

I didn't even finish watching. Their scripted talking points are glaringly obvious and the dev basically sounds bored, and I can't really blame him. The game looks boring as a SP game. It reminds me a lot of the Dawn of War 2 campaign. If the level is actually like that, where they're just leading you along a canyon killing Eldar.....Emperor help them.

I'm going to be passing this up at release unless they manage to show something that looks marginally interesting.

It's like GWS has a clear set of guidelines on how to ruin the IP.

Eh, I'm not gonna write off a game based on what is probably a WIP tutorial level.

Cover is now an indestructible mystic bubble of energy building you stand inside. We've gone from DoW 1's map built cover to magic cover blobs. They aren't even trying anymore.

They literally say "it can be destroyed" in the stream when introducing them.  They're meant to be analogous to building in DoW2, not cover.

From the UI it looks like the drop pods are quite severely limited in number and by time.  I'd expect them to be something you save for crucial moments.

That and those cover shields were Eldar made from the way those barriers off to the side looked.

Eldar had shield cover they could drop in DoW2 yes? They were semi-circle projections rather than domes, though a dome would be more useful for a fast changing battlefield.

I dont like that there are no more builders how it seems, you will now just pop a building. I fear they simplified base building part of the game from DoW1. It looks like we are getting a dumbed down version of DoW 1 and 2 combined.

Oh yes, the eternal debate.
DoW 1 and 2 were two very different games. They played differently and looked different, both enjoyable in their own ways if you ask me. Same genre belonging to the same IP doesn't mean sequels should be compared to one another, let alone saying it looks dumbed down. The comparison of something like Starcraft 1 and 2 makes more sense because both games play on the exact same mechanics and have almost identical gameplay, but DoW 1 and 2 don't.

It doesn't look like DoW 3 is going to break the pattern, it seems to stray pretty far from 1. I get the skepticism but nobody has played it yet, it might actually be fun to play (as opposed to.. not fun to watch?). Is this unreasonable?? Or just fuck that noise GW is shit and their games are awful and this game is going to be an awful moba.

Not saying the criticism is out of place, this is as good a place as any for it. Just saying it's silly to put the idea in your head that this game is gonna be lame from just watching the video. I don't want you to miss out you know? I care about you.

And yet they call it cover and it can be assaulted by Jump Marines. Sounds like cover to me, just in unnaturally occurring circles.

Manmade (well, Eldar made in this case) technology does tend to be occur unnaturally.

What? They're sequels. They absolutely can and should be compared with each other.

Considering in that dev stream they still refer to "what DOW 1 players are used to" I think comparisons are entirely relevant.

What? They're sequels. They absolutely can and should be compared with each other.

Why? They play completely differently from one another. They're different in almost every way aside from being RTS games themed around WH40k. In DoW 1 you're playing a base-building RTS. In DoW 2 you're playing a squad based strategy game with RPG elements. The two aren't remotely similar. They aren't even in the same vein. They absolutely can't and shouldn't be compared with one another.

Comparing DoW 1 and 3? Yes. Comparing DoW 1 and 2? No. If I'm not being clear, DoW 1 and 3 are apples. DoW 2 is an orange.

otoh if you want to milk a successful name you need to propose some kind of continuity. they shouldn't be surprised by fans looking at the name and expecting a similar or improved experience and going 'uhu?'

aka you cant have your cake and eat it too etc.

Because they have the same name. Its not a new franchise, but same, so people will compare them.  If they wanted to make a different game, they should make a new game with a new name, so people don't get disappointed how much they changed the game, and how its nothing like what the name is saying. They could do it like a spin of or similar, but not name it dawn of war 1, than dawn of war 2 that has very little to do with first game (when we are talking about gameplay). I think Dawn of war 2 should be called something like Dawn of War:Tactic or similar.

Its like that shooter xcom 2k made recentish. It might've been alright, but no one wanted it pre-nuCom 1, and no one cared about it afterwards, so it probably sold terribly.
