I don't know, I've seen plenty of polls that predicted Leave to win, and pollsters were in general about 70-90% Remain victory. Which means they've still left 10-30% chance of Leave victory. 10-30% is not that small of a chance.

EDIT: Cameron has just declared that he will resign, and that the new PM will have to do the negotiations.

EDIT2: He will resign in October.

shit I've just realized

back in Scotland referendum I've said that I've wanted the Independence to win and then they lost

here I've said that Remain should win

and now they're currently one million votes behind

...

Me too, holy shit.
If those pro-EU sentiments in Scotland and NI are strong enough, David Cameron might go down in history as British (English) Gorbachev. :P

It's funny because David Cameron is directly and personally to blame for this with his rash promise. It would be one thing if the new global recession were caused by some ardent ideologue who hated the EU, but instead it was caused because a very short-sighted politician wanted to win a domestic election

TBH one thing I'm worried about now is that I feel between this causing relations with Europe to sour and us actually leaving, the EU is probably going to be inclined to make an example of us, as it were.

I might be a bit cynical this morning, but I fully expect that this is what the brexit people will claim next. Any economical impact of the brexit will be blamed on the EU treating them unfairly even if that's not the case. This will lead to another episode of EU bashing and the whole island will sink further into isolationism and xenophobia.

Meanwhile onthe other side of the ocean, they'll elect Trump.

As for the betting markets, that's more of a suprise, but I guess this was a surprise. Again, "Odds favor it" isn't the same as "Bettors have been given supernatural predication skills".
If the UK runs another referendum about Scotland's independence, and the scots votes to leave the UK, will they be automatically accepted into the EU?

And how the hell every "serious" poll and betting site predicted Remain will win? even the markets behaved as if Remain already won (Although they go by the Media). is it just a case of a serious Echo chamber mentality? we know today's journalists are basically a young and inexperienced humanoid copy/paste search engine, but have they actually unintentionally/intentionally tempered with the results, seeing/showing only what fits their agenda?

To your first question - unlikely. First of all, the Scottish Leave/Remain split seems to have been 60/40, which isn't huge. And in my opinion, it's ridiculous to say it gives them the mandate to have another referendum so soon after the last one. They voted In, last time, for better or worse
60/40 is more than enough to lose you Scotland frienderino! All they need is 51/49, 60 is more then plenty! Plus Scotland will demand it. They may not get it but the Independence minded among them have been given, yes, the mandate they think they need to push for Independence. Absent the privilege to exercise that right, who knows what may happen.

Again, making fun is fun. As so many Euros have been saying about Trump recently: "Not my problem, so very fun to watch". Tell me England, what's next for you guys? What will pass for British foreign policy after this?

Truly amusing. How does complete failure feel Cameron? How does it feel knowing that you have thoroughly and utterly failed in your objectives? Time to retire and drink yourself to sleep I'm guessing.

I'll check this tomorrow. Gotta sleep.

This is a statement which i can't fully understand. Cameron is to blame because he chose to establish a democratic process? the UK voted out because the UK wanted out. denying the UK's public the right to determine their own fate is not a democratic action.

Nope, I've seen a tweet from someone important person in EU saying that "Leave means leave" and if Britain leaves EU, then it will leave out of all EU agreements.

I think EU is going to try to make an example out of Britain by making it as hard as possible, mistakenly assuming that this will deter others from leaving EU, but which will instead only hasten the inevitable destruction of EU as more people will come to see EU as a tyrannical anti-democratic institution.

I'm kindof curious what happens if the fallout of the vote ends up pushing the public back in favor of remain before we actually start leaving. It honestly seems pretty likely considering the economic shitstorm we are about to be right at the center of.

e: Also I seem to remember Cameron saying he never wanted another handover from one PM to another without an election happening, lol

I'm fairly certain Scotland would have to apply to the EU, but their application would likely be a formality. They alreadyr espect EU law after all, they'd just loose the British outs.

They exercised it a handful of years ago. They voted to Stay, fairly decisively. That's like saying that when the Tories win a General Election, all the Labour areas should have a vote about seceding. Keep in mind this referendum was a vote about the EU, not about the unity of the UK. There are plenty of areas in England that voted to Remain - doesn't mean they want to leave the country.
They voted to Stay because of EU membership. With that going out, they will alter the deal. They will demand another referendum. And with the upcoming economical catastrophe that Britain is about to experience, they'll have no choice but to accept their demands.

There are questions about how democratic the vote was. The public is notoriously misinformed, and the campaign was very ugly.
