Turn: 1783-1784Technology The Loyalist forces developed their own Steam Engine this year, designed to work in a fixed location and power factories and pump mines to increase production, but they spent the majority of their time pulling long hours and night shifts to refine their Imperial Rifle. They managed to improve both the breachblock and rifling. Due to these enhancements their Mod B is now cheap as well.
The Atterton focused on firearms entirely, developing the 'cricket' pepperbox carbine, a four barreled, ratcheted cavalry weapon. They also improved their Samara, both increasing it's range and making them ubiquitous enough for every infantryman to carry. The uniform production techniques used generally improve the rifle as well, reducing loading times, improving accuracy and range & making them easier to maintain.
The Dunwich designed a uniform overhaul, replacing the itchy, ill-fitting uniforms of old with a new set. Ancillaries are also included, such as improved tack, pouches and boots. All serviceman receive steel helmets and cavalry also receive lances. They also develop the Yorktown brig-sloop, a modification of their appropriated Dover-class, with improved fire power and copper plating to improve seaworthiness.
Fort Alton continued the firearm theme by modifying the Brown Bess. Their new Black Bess is similar in most regards, but is much easier to reload and uses paper cartridges to vastly increase the rate of fire. The Pirates have modified their Jaegar to increase its speed and maneuverability.
Military
On the High Seas, Loyalist forces move to blockade the mainland's ports and harbors whilst Atterton built up their fleet to attempt to break free. Many skirmishes and battles occurred on the waters near Newton, Atterton and Port Silver. Being so close to their ports and in good condition compared to last time they faced the London vessels, the Mulards fared much better. Both sides had been producing extra ships in anticipation however, and thus the weight of numbers and range was in favour of Loyalist Forces. The Seas are blockaded this year, and Atterton was unable to claim back their sovereign waters. (Open Water: Loyalists 7/7, Atterton 0/7, Dunwich 0/7 Pirates 0/7)
Atterton also pushes against the Confederates, towards the mountain fortress of the late Lord Combe. Their howitzers rain explosive death on Confederate Infantry regiments, before Monarchist Infantry open fire at over twice the range of the Confederate Line Infantry. Tactics for Dunwich quickly evolved into running as quickly as possible into the hail of death in order to open fire with their own (faster to reload) muskets. Confederate Skirmishers fare better, their Victorias and green uniforms affording them better range and better concealment. Confederate Cavalry also does well, unleashing a storm of air pistol rounds before closing with lance and sword. The extra men that Atterton has available tips the scales though, and they gain ground, reaching the foot of Combe Mountain. (Atterton 4/4 Dunwich 0/4)
Another front against the Confederates, but this time the Loyalists. They once more launched an invasion fleet against the Dunwich coast, picking a different spot to last time. With the Loyalist Imperial Rifle now available in some form to every Infantryman they were able to hold the line and secure the beachhead, despite the occasional rifle exploding in the hands of their user. Loyalist cavalry suffered the most though, facing either massed musket fire, canister shot or Combe mini-cannons wherever they went with nothing but their sabers to aid them. (Loyalist Beachhead established)
Dunwich chose to strike against Fort Alton. The long nines threatened anything that tried to come near Altonite forces, it became a game of rushing flanking units or artillery into range of the Altonite mobile shields in order to break their heavy defensive advantage. Both sides cavalry were well matched, the more versatile brace of flintlocks pistols versus the fire-til-empty air pistol. Dunwich skirmishers had a field day against Alton line infantry, picking off exposed Altonites from the maximum range of the Victoria, and only occasionally having to relocate due to artillery fire. Slowly but surely, Alton lines were pushed back, and Dunwich gained ground. (Dunwich 2/3, Alton 1/3)
Meanwhile, Fort Alton had attempted to push further into Dunwich lands, but their lack or response to constant harassment by skirmishing forces prevented them from making head way. Finally, Dunwich built a fortress at the mouth of the peninsula between Montgomery and New Dunwich, complete with fortified harbour. Hostile forces will be required to assault this bastion before being able to pass it in either direction.
International
The Americans were offered the London-class by the Loyalists, the Mulard by Atterton and the Yorktown-class by Dunwich. Looking for an impressive warship, their focus was taken by the London and Mulard, along with the reports of the various clashes between Naval units this year. They eventually chose the Loyalist London. Loyalist forces receive 1 shipment of ore per year until 1786.
The British were offered deep sea pearls by the loyalists, and Chinchilla Rope by the Confederacy. Intrigued by the most unique of items, Chinchilla Rope has quickly spread as the middle-classes seek something different and utterly unique. The Confederacy gains 1 Production credit per year until 1788.
As the first Yorktown brigs leave port for England, Loyalist Londons and Jaegars patrol the horizons. It's a stressful and dangerous job to be a sailor on a Dunwich trade ship, but the turn of speed available to a Yorktown means it is able to outrun most pursuits. The occasional ship is lost, but enough make it through for Dunwich to earn their production credit for 1784-'85.

Brown Bess Musket - A smoothbore flintlock weapon that fires a .69 inch (18 mm) shot. It has accuracy variable to a range between 50-100 meters. These are designed to be able to be equipped with bayonets. (1 ore)
Imperial Rifle Mk. I Mod AA - This rifle consists of a 760mm, 16mm-calibre rifled barrel in which seven grooves are cut. It uses a soft-lead ball which will expand on being fired, grip the grooves and clean them of blackpowder residue. The rear of the stock features a section that, when a side-mounted knob on the breachblock is rotated the rearmost section of the barrel pops out, allowing the loading from its paper cartridge. The breackblock is more durable than in its predecessor, but still sticks on occasion. The skilful application of a technical knock solves this in the vast majority of cases however. The rifle attempted to be primed with caps containing a shock-sensitive explosives, but the only suitable shock-explosives the engineers were able to successfully use consistently without high volatility was highly expensive to get ahold of. The effective range of the rifle is 300 meters in the hands of a sniper and 200 meters in the hands of a regular soldier. (1 ore, Complex)
Imperial Rifle M1. 1 Mod B - Replacing the percussion-caps with the tried and true flintlock system was simple enough. The attempted fix of the rest was something else entirely. Some combination of the rifling and the new batch casting causes regular blockages in the barrel, requiring specialist attention to fix, assuming the mechanism didn't get destroyed. Whilst the breechblock is now durable enough to be of use, it can sometimes damage the paper cartridge which makes the weapon even more likely to misfire. Overall this weapon requires extensive caution to use and must be cleaned after each shot to prevent the weapon from becoming more dangerous to the user than the enemy.(1 ore)
Cavalry
Saber - The sword used by boarding crews and Officers of the British Loyalists. (1 ore)
Artillery
Imperial 6 Pound Artillery - A lighter variant of the six pound cannon with an effective range of 700 meters. Vast modifications to the casting and production processes of the cannon are made in order to achieve this. This cannon is able to replace the old six pound cannons on vessels that used it. (2 ore, Imperial System)
AM-R 12 pounder Howit: This 12 pound Howitzer weighs 2350 pounds in total with an effective range of 700 meters for ball ammunition. It has a gun frame that may be pulled by horses or in a limited manner by infantry. Its tube is reinforced breech smoothbore cast iron with length of 5 feet and diameter of 0.385 feet. It is capable of firing either 12 lb. cannon balls or small ball canister shot. Canister shot has an effective range of 300 meters. (3 ore)

Gun boats - Fishing boats retrofitted in order to support a single 6 lb. Cannon. (3 ore, 0 wood)
London-class Brig-Sloop - A ship with a 95 foot by 27 foot gundeck that is fitted with eighteen six pound cannons. These cannons are arranged in a manner of having eight on the port and starboard, with two cannons able to be shifted between gunports at the fore and aft of the ship. The cannons furthest back on each side have a minor ability to fire backwards, but only by a minor amount. The four foremost cannons of the ship, not including the ones facing directly forewards, have a similar angle towards the front. The ship has a speed and maneuverability slightly lower than that of the future Cherokee-class Brig-Sloop of the British Empire. (4 ore, 1 wood)
Jaegar - An eight gun cutter, a small, single-masted vessel, that is more manoeuvrable and faster than larger vessels. It is armed with three cannons a side, with another two forward facing. There is however, very little space for crew or loot. (3 ore, 1 wood)
Dover-class Brig - A ship with a 95 foot by 27 foot gundeck that is fitted with two six pound cannons. Those are able to be shifted between its original positions at the sides and gunports at aft of the ship. Most of its ammunition and powder storages have been replaced with holds for cargo and supplies for longer voyages. (3 ore, 1 wood)
Transportation Infrastructure
Horse and Carriage - The most basic form of transportation. Able to transport a single material resource for weapons production each year.
Wagonway Trains - A transportation system composed of a number of horses pulling a long train of carts along 2' gauge wagonways. There are numberous issues when trying to use the system down large slopes or taking a curve at speed. Able to transport a second material resource each year.

'Samara' rifled musket Mk. 2 - A variation of the Brown Bess designed with 4 rifling grooves cut down the barrel using a steam powered borer. Other parts of the weapon are also produced with steam powered machinery, causing a degree of uniformity previously only seen with the foreign cannon casting systems. The carbine uses uniform lead bullets that expand into the grooves upon detonation of the gunpowder. The barrel is shortened to facilitate easier loading (the uniformity making it quicker than a Brown Bess), resulting in a lower muzzle velocity. However, due to the rifling grooves, the effective range is still improved, but not a much as on a full sized example. The Samara's most effective range is 150-200 meters. (1 ore)

AM-R-II 12 pounder Howit - A variant of the AM-R that weights slightly over a ton. Its bore has been modified to be able to effectively use case and low explosive shot. However, this comes at a cost that neither ball or canister ammunition can be used with the gun. The effective range of the cannon is 600 meters for the case shot and 450 meters for the explosive shot. (3 ore)

Am-Mulard:B - A steamship 115 feet by 23 feet large, this ship has an improved engine that provides force to the twin paddle wheels. The new engine neither suffers from the failure inducing shortcuts of its predecessor, nor the weight concerns. The hull has also been improved, bringing it up to par with the other warships of the Isles with regards to damage resistance and sea worthiness. Combining this with the addition of two small sails (at the fore and mizzen), this ship is no longer restricted to calm, still water. The ship carries 20 6lb guns, 10 aside, with two stern chaser ports cut to allow guns to be moved there. (4 ore, 1 wood, 0 coal)
Transportation Infrastructure
Horse and Carriage - The most basic form of transportation. Able to transport a single material resource for weapons production each year.
Semi-Powered Funiculars - Designing tracks and cart wheels that fit together was simple enough, however refining the steam engines to be able to haul those loads was another challenge completely. If the engine was to be of any sensible size, it can only haul one loaded cart, or a small train of unloaded ones. Thus powered sections are limited to short lengths, leaving the majority of the system unpowered. This system will allow you to access one additional resource.

Brown Bess Musket – A smoothbore flintlock weapon that fires a .69 inch (18 mm) shot. It has accuracy variable to a range between 50-100 meters. These are designed to be able to be equipped with bayonets. (1 ore)
Victoria Air Rifle – The air rifle is about 4 feet long, and 10 pounds, similar to a normal musket. It fires a .46 caliber ball, and has a tubular, 20-ball gravity-fed magazine that runs under the barrel of the rifle. The gravity magazine jams fairly often due to more than one shot entering the barrel and will render the rifle inoperable until it gets an hour maintenance. The rifleman using the weapon can reload the gun by pointing the rifle into the air, and waiting for a ball to roll down. When the magazine is emptied, the rifleman can merely unscrew the tube, refill it with balls, and screw it back on. Instead of using gunpowder as a propellant, it uses compressed air, stored in a small reservoir in the rifle butt that can crack and render the rifle useless, if the pressure within it is too great, the weapon is treated without delicacy, and after an average of 47 shots. (1 ore, Complex)
Victoria II Air Rifle – The Victoria II Air Rifle is a variant of the Victoria Air Rifle. The gravity fed magazine is replaced with a wheel with paddles perpendicular to the firing chamber, where the gravity fed magazine deposited the rounds. An access is granted on the right side to allow the wielder to rotate a shot from the below barrel fifteen round magazine into the firing position. There is a ratchet is installed in order to prevent the wheel from going to far, which needs to be pressed down when switching to the next round, so that the wheel may move. This innovation prevents the jamming seen in the original Victoria. However, this does come with its own problems of having some of the air escape through it, reducing the effective firing range, and the pressure can sometimes cause the ratchet to become loose or the wheel to get stuck on it. This type of jam is able to be cleared in under a second and the looseness of the ratchet can be fixed with some simple maintenance after every battle. Finally, the air reservoir is replaced by a version to be screwed on an off, but have to be pressurized before use. The effective range of the Victoria II is 50-100 meters. (1 ore, Complex)
Combe mini-Cannon – A large bore revolving musket intended to be serviced by a team. The Gun rests on a stand and has a six round, removable magazine with a crank handle on the back. The user turns the crank handle clockwise to chamber the next round, manually primes the flint and pulls the trigger, then winds the crank again. To change the magazine the crank is simply wound counter-clockwise. The crank system can be temperamental however and misfires due to the round being misaligned are not uncommon. Ideally, a gun could fire a whopping 20 rounds per minute, but having to check for alignment halves this. (2 ore)
Cavalry
Saber - The sword used by the Cavalry forces and Officers of the Atterton Monarchy (1 ore)
Whateley Cavalry Pistol MkII - A large, heavy pistol that has a compressed air method of firing. It has a 9 1/5 inch barrel and an 18 round magazine of .46 Caliber Shot. Through modifications to the loading wheel and a coil spring to load rounds into the weapon at greater speed, the weapon is able to fire fully automatic. Using the compressed air for chambering makes the pistols cheaper to produce, however you now get less shots per tank. The housing has also been reworked to prevent shots from going in any direction other than out of the barrel. Once the trigger is pulled the pistol will still keep firing until it runs out of air or ammo however. (1 ore, Complex)
Artillery
6 Pound Cannons - Smoothbore cannons taken from, or based off of the ones found in, the island's city and mountaintop forts. Each has an effective range of around 400 meters. (3 ore)
Von Karsten 8-pounder - An eight pound cannon built in accordance with the Van Karsten system, this cannon is able to send a standard ball shot 750 meters, and the eight pound variant of the Dunwich Canister Shot 600 meters. Carcass shot are also designed as an incendiary weapon and carry a range similar to that of ball shot at 700 meters. (2 ore, Von Karsten System)

Most of its ammunition and powder storage have been replaced with holds for cargo and supplies for longer voyages. (3 ore, 1 wood)
Yorktown-class Brig - 95 by 27 foot, this ship carries two 8lb guns with ports on the sides and aft. It also carries 4 pintle Combe Mini-Cannons, two a side. Top sails have been added for extra speed, and the hull has been copper sheathed. This streamlines the ship and increases the amount of time it can spend at sea before needing to return to dry dock. (5 ore, 1 wood)
Ammunition
Dunwich Canister Shot - A canister shot designed to have an effective range equal to eighty percent of the effective range of standard ball ammunition.
