Apparently the prequel novel implies that he might be one of Finn's old squadmates from training who was nicknamed Zeroes who had a history with competing with him in their tonfa exercises or something like that.
He'd have to be, probably1, because an old squadmate would be the only kind of person who'd ever recognise Finn out of his helmet (there seeming to be an absolute command against helmet removal even within the docking bay of an ImperialFirst Order facility) and anonymising suit of armour2.

1 Unless an APB had been put out on FN-2187.  Yeah, that might have happened, especially if that guy was basically Stormtrooper Military Police, in some form.  But I'm gonna say they didn't, because it makes my argument weaker... ;)

2 Which, by the way, we always used to joke was reactive armour.  But manufactured the wrong way round, given their utter susceptibility to common-or-garden laser-pistol blasts...

Plus, there was a 35 episode animated series. More Ewok fun!

I remember some people in the cinema chuckling at the scene where Han has a classic corridor shootout with some stormtroopers as they are breaking into the area to plant the bombs. I thought at the time the scene was a nothing but a nod to the original films action (it's a lot like the battles inside the death star or when they're attacking the shield generators on Endor). I can't help but think now though that it served a real narrative purpose - set the audience up with familiar, safe, scenes to lull them into a false sense of security, then hit them with the heavy world-changing shit. It seems to have worked, considering my fellow cinema-goers reactions.

who is apparently called Kylo Ren, thanks, I didn't hear his name properly
Actually, his name is Ben Solo. He's just trying to be edgy and adpoted some other name that sounds more menancing,
Word is he tried to go for Max Power, but it was already taken so he had to settle with the next one on his list.

If I were in his situation I would've went with something like "Darth Caedus" or something

Disney wants to make up their own EU shit though, so Kylo Ren and Knights of Ren instead of Darth and Sith.

Kylo Ren, angsty teen. I hope that improves, we can't have the villain be the next Ewoks or Jar-Jar...

Remember the golden rule for "Darth"s.  "Darth <Foo>" should be swappable with "In<foo>".

Darth Vader=>Invader; Darth Sidius=>Insidius; Darth Maul=>oh, never mind, he was too much of a comic-book villain/end-of-level-boss already...

Anyway, maybe he should have been thinking about either Darth Secure, Darth Stability or Darth Ept...

(edit: What have I started!  Argh!  Sorry...  Hopefully it won't go beyond the end of the next thread page.)

Inbane. Innihilus. Inrevan. Inplagueis. Intyranus.

Yeah, the rule doesn't check out, though the last one makes me wonder if someone ever thought of being Darth Uranus.

I blame Lucas!  It'd be a perfectly cromulent rule, if he hadn't messed up his own universe...

He would hang out with Darth Sane.  The two of them would mostly use their force powers to get beers from the fridge while they watch the swoop races.
