Mook Promotion is a thing. He will return, simply because of His amazing powers like EXTREME LOYALTY and SICK SPINS.
I don't mind the memes and shit, but he beat Finn 'cause Finn doesn't know how to use a lightsaber. I'm not even sure how likely it is he knows how to really fight, given he said he works in sanitation and the mission on Jakku was his first.
He's still one of the few characters that beat a lightsaber user without using another one or force on the screen.

Does he actually shout traitor? 'Cause shouting is a power, if Skyrim is anything to go by. He just needs one more syllable for a full power shout.

"Traitor Scum" perhaps? Links to the original trilogy, at least.

Considering how much Phasma was shown in trailers and generally how much people were talking and hyped about her, you would suspect that she should have at least some screentime or at least one minor asskicking. And instead she is mostly standing and slowly walking around doing basically NOTHING. Even Hux is better because he gets a nice Hitler hate speech.
Hey, that dude was my favourite character.
In pretty much all the other movies (as far as I can remember) any of the Empire's lackeys who didn't happen to be Sith (or whatever they're called now) were completely piss-scared of anyone with a lightsaber. This guy stood up and talked back to Kylo, which was a pretty cool moment.

Have any of you guys heard anything about this supposed spin-off movie I've been told about?
Apparently centring around one of the Fetts? That would be really cool if it actually happens.

Edit: Also, as much as that "TRAITOR" fellow had an awesome energy glaive (that's what I've decided to call it anyway), he still failed to kill the traitor.
I don't see why everyone's so hyped about him, unless the next movie is gonna involve him somehow being not-dead and finishing the job.
A hospital-room assassination would be pretty badass, if most likely way too dark for the franchise.

It's more of an energy tonfa

I dunno, I think its kinda cool.  Why wouldn't stormtroopers have some weapon to deal with lightsabers?  Shooting certainly doesn't work.

You misspelled great.

Mostly because no one else should be using them, for whatever strange reason. EU has lots of different things to make melee weapons that are saber resistant, of course.

What that thing is, is pretty weird.

Why? It's like a force pike, just with a blunt end instead.

I'm reasonably sure force likes were used against lightsabers at the start of III on Dook's flagship thing. Man I've not seen those movies for years...

I've been completely stumped as to who you guys are talking about, so I finally went looking for a clip or something to help me make the connection...

Turns out TR-8R's appearance was during the few minutes I was torn away because my kid had to pee.  Goddamnit.

Ah, looks like the Internet agrees. Guy's name is TR-8R and he has several action figures available.

That's a fanon nickname. Read the name out, then consider what his dialogue in the movie is.

His actual "name" on the toys is "First Order Riot Control Stormtrooper". I'm not sure how much is preplanned, and how much is in response to the fan response. The toys are announced, but won't ship until next August, so that implies it's been scrabbled together to meet fan enthusiasm for the character. There are a LOT more Captain Phasma toys already available, so my guess is that they didn't forsee "TR-8R" becoming a huge hit.

Apparently the prequel novel implies that he might be one of Finn's old squadmates from training who was nicknamed Zeroes who had a history with competing with him in their tonfa exercises or something like that.

Harrison Ford actually maintained that Han Solo should have been killed off in Return of the Jedi while sacrificing himself to save Han and Leia,

Which would have been stupid and cliche.  It's a fundamentally triumphant story.  Killing Han off wouldn't have accomplished anything needed from a narrative arc.  And it's ignoring that the Luke character arc is tied to the Vader character arc.  Return of the Jedi would be a solid story arc if the ewoks didn't completely ruin the mood.

Yeah, he's cool. While not as cool as Thrawn would be (even if my internal speciesism says that human is better), he still has time to be the most awesome badass normal of the new trilogy, except TR-8R of course. Also, I want his goddamn clothes.
Edit: Also, as much as that "TRAITOR" fellow had an awesome energy glaive (that's what I've decided to call it anyway), he still failed to kill the traitor.
Well, he nearly managed to do it, which puts him just below Kylo Ren level. If other Stormtroopers did their job and killed Han Solo and that HUEG Wookie hiding behind some pillar (if I get my timeline right), he would bash Finns head in.
It's more of an energy tonfa

Even if TR-8R is dead, I wish to see more of those things later on. It seems that the movie tries to show us that lightsabers aren't magical superweapons on their own. I like that idea.
Why? It's like a force pike, just with a blunt end instead.

Electrostaffs. IIRC, they were mentioned to be carried by Empire Stormtroopers but never actually shown. I suppose that First Order decided to work on it and created... an electro-tonfa. Yeah, that is a tonfa all-right, except it has handle that rotates.
Apparently the prequel novel implies that he might be one of Finn's old squadmates from training who was nicknamed Zeroes.
Fan theory, but I like that theory.

What, you don't like drop bears? Fluffy little murderous shits that ruin everyone's days and also should be wiped off the face of Endor after Death Star blew up and proably filled the atmosphere with tons of burning radioactive wreckage? Also, you totally need to see that horrible, horrible Ewok movie.

Bleh. Like someone in here or elsewhere said, make the second Death Star in orbit of Kashwykk, so you can explain how it was built so quickly as 'wookie slave labor', and you can have guerrilla action by goddamn 7 or 8 foot tall superthings instead of the stupid bear things we got.

Those horrible, horrible Ewok movies.

FTFW, you missed the sequel. Plus, there was a 35 episode animated series. More Ewok fun!

It's only right that Han's death (and everyone dies) must be larger-than-life, and on screen rather than dying peacefully of old age in some unseen footnote of wookiepedia.
And I say he ought to come back as a Force Ghost...

(Only kidding.  Well, maybe.  It'd affirm what we all know, in that he's actually a rather powerful but unconsciously introverted Jedi-strength force-user.  Probably his family were Bendu, before he was orphaned and started bouncing around the universe with his exceptional piloting and negotiating skills...)
