I've managed to avoid spoilers until I've finally seen the movie, which is today. And, by the God Emperor, it was worth it. I've had a bad feeling about this, and sadly, it turned out true. Ben, you poor, edgy S.O.B. I want to not hate you so hard, but THAT WAS THE COOLEST PERSON IN THE WHOLE STAR WARS UNIVERSE. Like, COME ON. Hate being hate, daddy issues being daddy issues, teenage rebellion being teenage rebellion, but one simply does not kill Han Motherfucking Solo and gets away with it.

As for the movie actual - yeah, fucking confusing. Not enough background info, though I belive this might be a good thing in long run, as most of people don't care or just google it, and it gives more time for cool effects and funny stuff. That deus-ex-R2D2 still remains a mystery to me though, someone should explain it.

Loved the movie, absolutely loved it.  As far as wanting background information, I kinda want to know how the hell the Knights of Ren popped out.  How does an order of dark side users, led by an alien dude with clear knowledge of the dark side of the force, not immediately assume the mantle of the Sith?  "Ren" just doesn't have the same ring as "Darth", IMO.

Also, was Ben Solo the first one recruited by Snoke, are there even any other members?  The flashback to the slaughter of the new jedi showed more cloaked baddies ( did they also have lightsabers?  Can't really remember ) suggesting other force-sensitive members, but then how does that relate to the whole Force-waking-up, shtick?  Did Snoke the light side waking up?

IF it weren't for that one flashback, Id be hoping that any other Knights of Ren would actually have very little physical resemblance to previously known Sith, in terms of dress or weaponry.  Like, Kylo Ren would be the only dark side potentiate who actually looked like a Sith, and that would be due to his hard-on for Vader-esque paraphernalia and image.  It would be nice to introduce some aesthetic variety to the dark side, while still staying true to the whole destructive, over-emotional and cruel theme.

Kylo Ren's the leader, probably the first.

It seems Snoke doesn't want the Sith mantle. He's less subtle than Sidious (Leia and Han pretty clearly know about him) and seems excessively old, possibly even predating Darth Bane, inventor of the Rule of Two (since Kylo's saber design is from the same era as KOTOR was in the EU or at least an era that is defined by an event that perfectly describes something Revan did down to the planet, one introduced in KOTOR 2, which is suspicious detail), so I can see him going "the Jedi are dead, subtlety is no longer necessary; the Sith are dead, long live the Knights of Ren".

EDIT: crunching numbers, I only assign a 0.24 chance of Snoke being inspired by Revan. That's given in-universe numbers, though, meta may be different.

Apparently Word of God has stated that R2-D2 had downloaded the map to the jedi temple along with a ton of other junk from the imperial archives when he jacked the Death Star's systems during a New Hope and BB-8 being sad at him prompted him to speed up his archive's defragmenting process. Or something.

I figured he registered the presence of Luke's lightsaber and started waking up because of that. That he conveniently suddenly had the rest of the map doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but fiine, I'll accept that 'it was in the Death Star'-theory.

Actually there have been images of Snoke even before the release. I know I saw some around 10th.

(BTW: I disagree with you: I'm sure Snoke is Darth Plageis. Search your feelings, you know it to be true!  :P)

Seriously? I mean, I can accept that he could download that from Death Star, but... convenient timing much?

The R2D2 thing was a little annoying - the movie should have ended immediately before that scene. Then they could have resolved this plotline in a satisfying way in the next movie instead of the equivalent of "Hey, turns out the map to Jedi Jesus was just stuck in the couch cushions the whole time!"

I liked the movie a lot though. The characters were all very good (especially Kylo) and I thought that the familiar scenes and settings were fine given the different context the new characters put them in. That said, I'll be disappointed if the next one doesn't try to stand on its own a bit more.

Just saw it.  The thing that bugged me the most was the jedi mind-trick that Rei does, but other than that movie was pretty good 8/10 would recommend.
Although R2D2 having the entire map EXCEPT the part we had was kinda bullshit.  Also you guys are thinking that he downloaded the map from the death star, but the map also contains the route and location of Luke(who isn't blond anymore) which nobody would have known since Luke hadn't left yet.

It's the official explanation. I belive that he downloaded the map from Death Star and then it was Luke who "cut" the piece from the R2D2 memory for reasons unknown. It's still horrendously fucky, all of it.
