From what I've seen from MP, just try and stay away from massive alliances/blocks. If half the world goes commintern, they've won before the war begins, and it seems pretty boring for all concerned.

I had a major powers only multiplayer game recently, and it was a lot of fun. Axis lost, but MVP was definitely AI facist Greece that somehow produced as many divisions as Italy. It helps to have good house rules though.
What kind of house rules would you suggest?

Well, we basically tried to recreate WWII. The game is most balanced around that. If a fascist America forms that aligns with Axis then it's already over for the allied players.

The rules we used were as follows:

Speaking of, just finished my first game (Italy, Tutorial, Easymode).
Managed to take Africa pretty easily, but couldn't figure out how to recruit fascist greece or republican spain.

I need 21 reasons to get a NAP, 10 coming from max relations, 10 coming from fascism... How the heck do I get the other 1?

(It ended with me starting a civil war in crete (which was an awful idea), then going to war with greece just as the americans got there, and being forced to throw three armies on the line whilst russia ate the germans behind me.)

Boosting relations would have probably helped.

In other news, Im kinda sad that they dont have escort carriers in the game.

Okay, can somebody maybe explain to me how managing your Air Force works?

I get that you can create new Air Wings from Reserves, but how do you move existing wings from one base to another? Also, is there an easy way to figure out how many planes you need exactly to get 100% Air superiority in a region? I have a very hard time figuring out if my assigned missions are actually doing anything useful or not.

Have more planes in a given region, then the other combatants, or have your planes shot down way more planes then yours. I dont think quality can really over take quantity though.

Sorry, missed that somehow. Ah... Try non-aggro pacts, that sorta thing?

-on aircraft-

I think it helps, just not by amazing amounts. Having enough range to cover the zone also helps.

Arise, thread!

So, Paradox is announcing the 1.2 patch is coming out with HofIIV's first expansion, Together For Victory, in the near-future. It focuses on fleshing out nations in the British Commonwealth through some new art and mechanics, like leader portraits and technology sharing. Also the dev diaries the past few weeks have shown off new focus trees for Canada and Australia.

I don't think that's where their focus should be.

They need to add a DLC that replaces the AI with unpaid interns working for Paradox.

I'm eyeing this game.
Any DLC or special edition I need?
Is Italy's military in the road to war or equivalent scenario still as awful as it was in HOI3?
Why should I buy this if I own HOI3?

The only special edition things are the pre-order stuff and some special graphics for tanks.

Arguably, but it's easier to get it to not be shit. Italy is even the tutorial faction.

Why should I buy this if I own HOI3?
It's good game. I wouldn't buy it for full price, though, the DLCs have not arrived yet and it feels unfinished.

Yeah, but fleshing out focus trees is something I wanted them to do too. The first dev diary mentioned they're working on improving the AI's ability to identify encirclement. Let's hope they're also working to make the AI be less bone headed in diplomacy too.
