Mauricio nods. "Very well. I humbly agree with your plan of action. It seems to be the most obvious solution to our current problem. I sincerely doubt that this will be a ruse to overpower us while we are off guard, but I will be weary nevertheless. It would be better than too cautious than too reckless, especially given the dangers that have threaten us since we came here."

Mauricio has no objections and waits to carry out James's plan.

James outlines his plan to the other two as they sail closer to the boat. "After we're alongside, we have have Kylie and Vethr go across first. Once they're on the boat, we can toss a rope over and she can use it to secure the boats together. Once they're moving together, Mauricio and I have a better chance of jumping across and not dying between the hulls. I'd really rather not die that way, at least.

Assuming we all live through this moment of insanity, we have the crew pass oars across to us, rouse anyone who's still capable of using them, and have our ship pull the new one close to shore and use the oars to help avoid smashing into a cliff. If there are enough people to do the rowing, we can look at the wounded and see what we can do.

Now, if this is some screwed up ruse, we kill anyone who comes at us with a weapon until the rest learn to behave themselves.

Any objections?"

Kylie agrees with Mauricio and then prepares herself to cross with rope in hand. You see the other people waving you down, constantly shouting for help. She leaps across with Vethr grasping her back, again taking her angelic appearance as she glides across to the other ship. You watch her as she ties the rope to the ship, securing her end. One of the crewmates secures your end as well.

With the skeleton crew maneuvering the ship with the oars, it doesn't take long to get close to the ship. (?) You get the ships to 15ft away as you pull the ropes closer to make the two ships close in before the crew closest to them bring in the oars. As you do, you see Kylie casting magic on some of the wounded, though as the note said, they are starting to look sick and the magic can only do so much.

The two of you prepare to hop across as the ship closes in. For safety reasons, they keep the distance to 10ft apart.

(4+1) (5+1) (Acrobatics) You both jump and land right in the water ((oh boy...)). The rough waves caused by two ships moving doesn't serve you well for swimming. (16-1) (9+3) (Swim) Mauricio stays afloat, despite not being the strongest swimmer, but the waves and how James landed doesn't help in his favor as he starts to get dragged behind the ship. Crewmates scramble to pull you two out of the water with the help of oars. (19+1) (7+1) (Reflex) The two of you manage to grab the oars and the crew start to pull you aboard, but James slips. Vethr grabs you and starts to lift you out of the water. Vethr struggles but manages to get your soaking body out of the water and onto the ship Kylie is on. It seems without your gear, you're much lighter than Kylie. She healed 2 people herself, the rest of the people seem scratched up and the other 5 wounded look terrible with large gashes or cuts. One woman, who is quite fair, seemed to receive an unlucky gash which left her with a large facial scar.

"When their oars broke, they splintered and hurt several people. Some of them didn't seem to get so lucky."

You're soaked from head to toe, and Mauricio is on the other ship. Following with the plan, you pass the oars over and Vethr helps Mauricio cross, Kylie learning her lesson.

((It's a mystery to me how every time I do an acrobatics check with these dice, I tank the roll...))

"I believe we have done all we can today. We shall return to our clan and start relocating. Our current whereabouts are not very pleasant. Your map will come in handy in regards to that."
"Relocate where? Sun will be down soon and we can't get walls or shelter built in that time. Not to mention we still have to find places on map and scout them."
"Naturally tonight will be spent in planning, resting and packing whatever we've put out. That too is part of the process, dear Ritiki."
"As promised, I will give you the map. I pray that your clan will use it well."

He hands you the piece of bark with the writing. Its actually a lot larger than you think, going as far as to the beach you are on to half as far in the opposite direction and even farther past the Earth-Shaker's village. However, the details are obviously missing, but landmarks and biomes are clearly etched out. The "Giant's Forest" is marked where the Badgers were encountered, though you see that a snake is marked there instead of badgers.

In terms of artistry, it looks like a drawing from a six year old, with many mistakes. For etching though, you can't really complain.

Arioch gracefully accepts this gift and voices his thanks. He does think to ask though.

"Might I inquire about this S in the forest that exists? I understand that we've already fought creatures from there and they are not like any that are typically seen."

In the mean time he shows the map to his companions as well and points at various places in it.

"Well, Ritiki, what do your trader senses tell you?"

Ritiki points to the shapes that look a bit like houses or tents and asks what those are.

"If those are in fact clan villages, and we can make peace with them, somewhere between them would be best...perhaps between the river fork and that cave? Easy to fresh water, looks already mostly clear of trees but with forest nearby. Assuming none of the lizards live in the cave it might be worth checking for metals."

Martijn nods.

Easily defensible. And, if all fails, we could retreat to the caves and defend them. Cave fighting can be... gruelling, shall we say?

As for metals... where did you get the stones for those daggers you gave us earlier?

"That is supposed to be an etching of a snake. The one who gave this map to me wasn't the best at this. It marks off the Giant's Wood, where the giant animals are. The strongest one we have seen was a giant snake that was quite formidable. None of our hunters could kill it, and we've stayed away from it for a long time.

I should clairify. Each of the different settlements marked are marked by their different form. The tent are those who have the form of a wolf, the cabin is one of the form of a bear, and the one with the dome huts take the form of a boar.

The collective cabins there marks the Great-Tooth clan is. They are the oldest of the ones who inhabited the continent.

This one surrounded by the rivers here are the White-Mane clan. You will know you are on their land when you see the farmlands.

The clan closest to the lake here is the Ice-Claw clan. Despite their name, they aren't hostile.

I must warn you of the caves, as they seem to be connected. This one here is where the Grey-Tail clan is. They're the most hostile of the ones who turn to a form similar to rats. However, they don't seem to come out of their caves at all."

He points to the cave north of the Giant Wood.

"Truthfully, I believe the stones we use to make our weapons are from deeper in the caves. It is why many of our warriors aren't properly armed. My axe was a gift from one of the other warriors when he retired."

"We stopped being able to get ours since we don't have many warriors. Many other clans tend to fight other warriors for their tools. Those knives are the last of ours save for Varg and Erik's axe.

I will let you keep them, as a sign of goodwill between our two clans. Though it may not serve you as well as we hope it to be."

"What of the plains between the two forks, north of the Giant's Woods. They seem to have all the proper things required. Regardless how it is, we will have to discuss this with the others."

After their answer regarding the stones, Arioch answers.

"Nonsense. It is highly probable that as newcomers we might be attacked. These knives will help greatly in case of such an attack right now. I hope that good things come to our clans."

This... is one of the most stupid things I've thought to do in a long while. James fretted silently to himself as Kylie easily made the jump, her Roc making it almost look like she has wings herself. Ok, see? That looked simple, I can do that.

James glanced to Mauricio, forcing a confident expression onto his face. "On three?" Muaricio nodded back, a little jerkily. James just hoped that his own nerves weren't as obvious.

"One.... Two... Three!" The two of them used what little space the longboat had to make a running start for their jump. Unfortunately, their inexperience caused them to mistime the movement of the swells, and they launched when their boat was at its lowest point, and tried to land when the other was at its highest.

Spoiler: Draconic (click to show/hide)

James yelled something in surprise and pain as he slammed into the side of the boat, hearing Mauricio grunt as he impacts as well. And then the water closed over James' head, taking all sound with it.

Oh hell, I don't want to drown... swim! Swim you little fool!" he thought furiously to himself, kicking his way to the surface. Air never tasted so sweet as he broke free of the wave with a gasp, eyes starting to widen in panic as he started falling behind the ships. He'd learned to swim in streams and lakes, but wasn't such a strong swimmer that he could keep up with the ships. He struggled to swim after the boat, and nearly got brained as an oar splashed into the water in front of him. Unsure as to whether he was angry or grateful, James lunged for it, grasping at the wide paddle. The sailor began pulling it back towards the ship, but the scum-slicked wood slid through James' hands uselessly.

"Goddess take you, get that... back... here!" James yelled, beginning to panic as the ocean weighed down his clothing and boots and filled his mouth with every word, forcing him to spit it back out again to shout further.

Suddenly, a rushing of wings filled his ears, and pain struck in his shoulders as Vethr grabbed at his shoulders rather carelessly, more concerned with getting a good grip on him then safety with those talons. James shouted again, doing his best to not resist as Vethr pulled him bodily out of the water.

Spoiler: Draconic (click to show/hide)

Landing in a heap with a complete lack of grace onboard the new ship, James groaned, relieved to still be alive. The first thing he did was reach for his scarf, finding it knocked askew he quickly tied it properly around his forehead, keeping his long soaked hair away from his face. "Goddess. I guess any plan you can walk away from was successful, but remind me to not try this again. Being a pirate is obviously not a career for me."

Struggling upright, James watches Kylie heal two of the wounded and shrugged his shoulders, finding the stinging from the salt in the talonmarks not to be too bad, he picks out the three physically strongest looking of the seriously wounded. "Let's get you three upright. Sorry to the rest of you, but there's only so much healing to go around."

James casts Cure Light Wounds once each on the three wounded. If they're healthy enough to do some work afterwards, they'll be helpful with the new oars.

While he is busy casting, the crews are passing the oars over, and Vethr helps Mauricio make his second jump. Once they're together, James uses his hands to squeeze seawater out of his hair.
"That could have gone better, but I guess it worked. Remind me not to jump off a perfectly good ship if its still capable of floating, next time."

((Now imagine instead of a longship, a frigate and jumping onto a galleon. And then screwing up the roll so hard that you don't get a reaction to fly up as a fail safe. And your swim is -1 and you land in between the ships and start sinking.

Did I mention my character for that was a Pyrokineticist? Meaning all of his abilities are based on fire? Yeah... I was about 60ft underwater before I got pulled out. Luckily my guy can hold his breath!

Will post in a bit, I think I forgot to include something important in my earlier posts that can be added on later, and it requires a DM or two.

Also, for purposes of keeping that fantastic RP, take 2 nonlethal damage from Vethr hastily grabbing you, and gain 100 bonus XP))

((Back to business. On the boat that is))

Kylie and a few people look at James as he fixes his scarf and Kylie gives a worried look before grabbing at your scarf to pull it off. You rush to grab her hand (CRIT) and with lightning speed, grip her hand just as she goes to grab it away from you.

"What did you do to your forehead? Did you scrape your head in your sleep? Let me look!"

She starts pulls her hand back, and ignoring her, you heal two people quickly. Kylie notices something strange with James but doesn't say anything. She helps Mauricio get aboard with Vethr. (11+6) (Mauricio) (Perception) Mauricio notices something odd about James as well ((Will DM))

Varg has "joined" the party!

((You can now have Varg join you instead of Kylie and Ewan))

"It is getting late. If you wish to go back to your clan, you should hurry before the things in the night come out. Good luck, friends of the Red-Moon."

Martijn bows to Varg with respect, albeit rising with his customary good-natured smirk.

Good hunting and peaceful nights, Varg!

Turning to his companions, he raises an eyebrow and extends an arm in the direction of the sea.

"Fare thy well, Red-Moon clan and may Tyr's light be ever at your side. If you need our aid regarding something we would hear it."

With the tired look created from a long and productive day, Arioch finds in himself to give one last quick nip at Martijn with a smile.

"Cave dwellers are we now? Yes, let's return home. I suspect the next few days will be long."

((It's likely that the more recruitable NPC party members we gather, the more we'll keep splitting into two. At this rate eventually everybody might even have their own mini-party.))
