Alright, so I did win, although with only 11 runes. I BARELY[I was literally at 1 health when I stumbled out of their silence and used Borgnjor's Revivivfication and a want of teleport] managed to escape from them. I can't take them in a straight melee fight[High EV plus bullshit heals] with only a +4 weapon, my ranged combat is useless without Portal Projectile[Which can't be recast because Silence] and I can't use magic or scrolls at all in silence. Plus Necromutation can't be refreshed in Silence, so there goes any hope of Torment resistance[Because I STILL have zero rNeg without giving up unacceptable amounts of other resists] So I decided not to waste my chance at a win and just went back up, Orb in tow.

Honestly, my equipment that whole game SUCKED. I got basically NO enchant scrolls and very few good randarts so my resists AND AC were patchy. And I didn't get any Demonspawn Mutations that helped with the resistance end of things, although I was pretty satisfied with them in general.



Welp, I am now utterly sick of Necromancy, Demonspawn, Qazlal and melee combat. Time to play some casters, I guess.

Who is 'them'? Regardless, congrats on the win.

Oh derp. Ereshkigal. I find bosses that you can only beat if they're too dumb to use their powerful healing ability really annoying, for the record. Like, I got Ereshkigal down to "Almost Dead" on four separate occasions, but they always healed back up the very next turn if I didn't hit and kill them.



I'm currently trying HuCj, since those are both decent for a blaster build and they're pretty unpopular. I dislike Conjuror[They have like one spell other then the starting one that's really worth getting], so maybe I'll switch that out if I lose too many HuCj's.

Using as a main weapon? I wouldn't say so. How often is it that you die because of a swarm of weak enemies? Better to focus on your single-target damage and just use good positioning rather than relying on what's basically a well-enchanted club with splash damage. That said, your defences seem low, so I guess it's worth keeping as a swap for if you get surrounded by wargs or something. I'd imagine that any situation where you'd want use it, though, you're already kinda screwed.

My own game keeps on keeping on. Just took out TRJ, and after finding Aura of Abjuration in a book in his Vault I'm pretty sure I do in fact now have every spell in the game in my stash. I've been quite fortunate with gear, although I keep running across artifact armours that seem to be taunting my poor misshapen Draconian body. I even found a potion of experience just lying around randomnly. Can't remember the last time that happened. I've had my fair share of bad luck as well though - Sojobo, Mennas and Mara all generated within a very small area of each other on Crypt:2. Fighting them all at once with Fireball and Orb of Destruction was exciting!

Seriously considering attempting a 15-runer here. I should probably branch out into Necromancy and get something like Necromutation and Death's Door/Bognor's, but I've never used those spells and wouldn't want to pull a bonehead move while relying on them. I slaughtered extended with a similar-ish Fire Storm spamming Vehumet worshipper many versions ago, but there've been a lot of changes since then (and not to mention, I think Vehumet's simply much better in the endgame than Sif. Abandoning Sif is an option, of course, but we'd get more points for a Sif win than a Vehumet one). So I'm undecided.

If I can win this one, we've got our first Bay12 streak on the board, and it might even push the Champions into the top 10. So any advice is appreciated.

It might not be a bad idea to switch to TSO for extended instead of going into the high-level Necromancy spells. My last win was heavily relying on the high-level Necromancy spells and I was reasonably impressed with them, but TSO provides comparable robustness in extended with less xp investment and less disadvantages. Plus TSO piety gain is absurdly quick in extended, whereas Vehumet or Kiku would take quite a bit longer to attain the same results. Death's Door is really really good, but drops you to single digits health even with high spellpower. One smiter or hellfire user onscreen when it wears off and you're boned. It lasts long enough that you can usually clear the screen and get to a safe place before then, but its still risky. Borgjnors is good, especially if you're a race with high max health. The two compensate for each others' weaknesses pretty well, although stasis is recommended before Borgjnorsing out of Death's Door. Necromutation is awesome, although rNeg+++ and a decent stack of permafood provide similar, although lesser, advantages with much lesser investment.

Yes, it does. I went Qazlal into Ashenzari and we got a Qazlal win recorded. You'd still get points for a Sif win if you switched to TSO now, although I don't know how bad Sifs' wrath is. Thing is, Sif doesn't give that many passive benifits, certainly not compared to rNeg+++ and the halo TSO gives out. Her channelling is good, but a staff of energy or similar aren't that much worse.

1. Rush straight for Tornado - this would be what I'd do in offline, but I'm using Kiku, and I don't want to swap yet - not sure how her wrath will affect me.
2. Go for Freezing Cloud, then rush Tornado - most reasonable, in my experience Freezing Cloud is a great mid-game spell, and I can transition into ice magic and get Glaciate online in extended.
3. Get random buffs - most notably Haste for 600g.

Graven, you are clearly better at Crawl than I, but if it were me, I would go freezing cloud first, and I would learn fulminant prism or whatever its called - its right there in your starting book, and once you get used to it, its kinda fun, and very effective at blowing stuff up. Especially multiple stuffs.

I've been splatting DrCj's out of spite for the last little bit. I should probably move back to something I can consistently make reasonable accomplishments with. If solely to get over the fact that I seem to have gotten notably worse with magic users. :\

So my DrCj of Sif[Because I found her altar on D:2 and said "Why not"] just got "Sif Muna's Tome of Confrontation and the Snowflake". Its got nice Ice spells in it, including GLACIATE. I haven't even entered the Lair yet. And you know what I find around the very next corner? A book of Annihilations. Which also has Glaciate in it. And very little else an Air/Ice magic user wants[Chain Lightning was meh the last time I used it]. This is vaguely annoying.

First game's proceeding well, but I'm having some trouble - on starting a game (on CAO, tiles), I get a load of 'can't find LUA' and RC file missing' errors, and nothing's coloured in my inventory; it's a pain in the arse. Any ideas how to fix that?

Anyone got ideas on this?

Game's proceeding alright, though I think I made a mistake going one-handed axes and shields. Hopefully my orc-bros can pick up the slack.

If you haven't figured this out yet, I was having the same problems, and going into Advanced Options and resetting my config file fixed it. Just remember to readd clan info when done.

Can't say it felt like a particularly lucky in terms of gear - cleared Elf, Crypt, V5 and Slime, got 5 runes, still wound up wearing a vanilla rF+ ring at the end, but that was ok, because I bought an Akashic Record as early as Orc 4, allowing me to take down the Lernaean hydra, and indeed every other hard to hex fucker in the dungeon, with the truly awesome Malign Gateway.

Only regret: got about 4? branding scrolls, but never hit chaos on my quickblade.


Edit: And yeah, admire the 6 extra levels of translocations skill I have, just so I could get a relatively cool (compared to like, conqueror or whatever) title. Whatevs.
