The Monarch has arrived! It was the Queen, who had no skills, her husband King Consort (who was a butcher), and the Outpost Liason. No legendary warriors, no kids, no hangers-on.

I can't believe my queen marched through goblin-surrounding territory to get to the new Mountainhome in the middle of a temperate forest without even a single guard.

She had guards. But the goblins killed them.

ok, i managed to reclaim my fort (the one that "blew up" due to some half tamed dragon near a booze stockpile. suprisingly, the dragon still roamed around in the mining area... and whats more, he was still semi wild (although he dropped a trained level^^) first i seales off the part, but in the second year since i got nothing better to do, i put an not so egendary animal trainer down there and said to him: "go tame dat dragon!" well he did^^ so hes still semi wild but at last a trained stray war dragon.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
well gotta keep him away from my other dwarfs until his training is somewhat better than +trained+. made a animal pasture only for training animals down in the unused part of the mines, and for 2 years i have my peace... until i got a female roc coming flying around, killing a carpenter, a field worker looking for fruits near the entrance (he got stuck on a stepladder due to horror^^) and 2 fisher... until he finally flew/walked into a cage trap... i got to do something with her^^ well something aside the tamer giving it meat for the first time and the trained tag (that i dont trust anymore ;)

Cavern is a crazy place. I saw a cave drago. But before my dorfs could do anything, it was killed by weapon traps. I had to the doors to keep miasmas out, too many corpses...

The Forgotten Beast Oxox has come!  A great eyeless crab.  It has lacy wings and it is ravening.  Its blue exoskeleton is rough and cracked.  Beware its deadly blood!

The Hammer Lord punches The Forgotten Beast in the head with her right hand, tearing the fat and bruising the muscle and bruising the brain!

I set up an outdoor joint training camp on the side of the plateau, where the slope is gentle that the worst possible accident won't kill everyone involved. It's been green with vomit ever since. It's always the old Hammerlords who puke all over the place, even though they live only 1 z-level under the surface. The recruits haven't had time to get cave-adapted, so they do fine out there. The guard unit isn't that new, but the captain was our founding farmer and most of the guards are also farmers or farm-related professions. I should build a catapult course outside, because the siege engineers don't get out nearly as often as the rest of the mechanic crew.
If they live so near to surface, channel all that area and build a floor roof there instead. That will stop them from getting cave adapted.

Dammit, I just got the outpost liaison. No queen or anything.

That's a great idea, I could make a big greenhouse over the whole valley area. I've had the glassmaker cranking out blocks as a matter of course, and hadn't considered what to do with them. I don't know about using all that pearlash, though. After making all the beds I'll ever need, I still need all my logs for a huge connecting network of turbines. Even if I connected them with all gears instead of axles, the waterwheels alone will need 144 logs.

The elves never come here, but even if they did, I'm not going to waste time or resource just to annoy them. If they did come, I'd rather have them as traders than attackers. They're worthless as enemies; no challenge, no reward, no satisfaction. Wtf do you do with elfinite? You can't even power a kiln with that shit. As traders, they bring so much cheap lumber and wood products that I never need to send a woodcutter for anything but grounds maintenance, and I can buy their whole load with a bin of metalcrafts.

I started an above ground wrestler fortress(without picks and axes), and failed.
I realized I need walls.
Dorfs are so single-minded and they will fight a giant leopard gecko to death.

Maybe I need to make some crossbows just in case...

Is there a way to destroy/collapse a tree without dwarves touching it with DFhack? I've got a forgotten beast stuck in a tree.

What ? Magma NOT solving a problem ? Impossible!

More solutions:

-Spawn MORE magma, make the FB drown into magma

-Obsidian cave-ins. Since you are using dfhack already...

-More legit : Dig under the tree, cave-in the tree one Z-level, see the FB falling off the tree due to cave-in clouds.

Woo! I used water and washed it out of the tree. Maybe now we can have an FB battle royale?

EDIT: Wow, that was fast. They went right to each other and started wrestling. They both have webs. One is a sauropod and the other is a winged flatworm. The sauropod won, but both of its lungs were bruised. It healed before it could suffocate.

i suppose you could let your tamed war dragon loose on the trees, but you better be shure to get that dragon out of the burning forest fast, or it will die due to falling trees... and yeah, one dragon did that... got on a rampage, got out of the fort after fleeing dwarfs and spit fire everywhere (well its a dragon^^) setting ablaze the whole forest above my fortress... and killed itself while at it due to a massive tree collapsing onto named dragon, so always fight dragons in forests, they will sooner or later kill themselve (obviously you have to sacrifice one or two dwarfes or perhaps a crapload of wardogs^^ to distract it long enough while the trees burn... also incoming iFUN! through elves if they are still a challenge to your dwarfes^^

EDIT: @ topic: build myself a little greenhouse and trained my roc to *trained* state, after a while of thought about what freaking plant i grow in this greenhouse i came to strawberries and blueberries, strawberrys because i personally like to eat em, and blueberries because i hate them for their taste ;) oh and some meager goblin army of 60 being completely annihilated by 20 dwarfs clad in steel with steel picks and without a single injury on my dwarfes too, quite unexpected^^ i hope they get some steel or silver weapons next time ;)

EDIT 2: got my dragon to *trained* too, and mutilated that damn goblins again (still only with copper an one with an iron helm...) got some elven warning due to cutting down the whole map and expanded my greenhouse with cranberrys and blackberrys
