The Force of Nature known as the Trashy Coals, my metal-clad military powerhouse, has fended off three sieges, with zero casualties. The Goblins have apparently formed a treaty with the humans, both attacking again and again. The humans will send 20 in for a siege, and the goblins send in three ambush parties, generally consisting of their elite bowmen. Once, the siege occurred whilst the Mountainhomes sent their caravans to our depot, but twice more, sieges occurred with no backup. It was no problem for our elite military. 5 of our men have now acheived names, one of whom has four names: Dumed Moralitywire, the Gilded Meeting Authority of Quaking.

The name was dubbed by the Apostle of Armok, so that would explain why it is so religious sounding. I am going to build ten special bedrooms for our esteemed military, engraved with images of their many victories. Dumed's victory over the giant frost-wyrm, which nearly destroyed the fortress seven years ago, has been memorialized in a ruby statue, which was placed in the baron's meeting room, so that all diplomats may see the power of our mightiest warrior, flinging the head of the mighty wyrm across the halls of the entrance area. His face somber, he stands mourning the deaths of all 40 dwarves who died from the terror of the wyrm, or from the flames shot out by the firebird the elves had brought uncaged.

Out of character: seriously, this wyrm showed up at the beginning of my second year, right as the elves came in. In the midst of the carnage, suddenly a wildfire started spreading from the Depot. I looked in the report because I did not make a connectio between Frost Wyrm and fire, to see that a "tame" firebird had gotten enraged. I didn't have one, so I assumed the elves brought them. The wyrm made short work of the elves and their pack animals, then proceeded to fly around the edges of the map, chasing a poor kitten all around the place. It somehow survived the blaze running right over it. I drafted all of my people into the military, because the pets were running into the fort, which brought the wyrm inside. They managed to break its wings, but all but a child died. Then a sudden migration occured, with 15 unsuspecting dorfs. I enlisted them all, with Dumed being the only one with any weaponry ability. He charged in, somehow avoiding the blasts, and dodging everything the wyrm threw at him. after 42 pages of combat logs, Dumed swung his hammer and launched the head of the wyrm all the way to the other side of the entrance level, which is basically two screens away. His incredible dodging skill has seen him through several years of constant battle, without a single injury.

And all of this, 8 of my squad members legendary +5 weaponmasters, and 9 are legendary +5 fighters. And soon, I'm building a military garrison and enrolling all ten in that, for the added boost to experience gain. (what? I have 61k coins. I gotta do something with them all, since there isn't a working economy.)

I'm still relatively new, but my fort is now reaching the stage where I'm expecting it to get more exciting soon. I've killed one FB and one titan this far, both were relatively easy. I also suspect that there might be a vampire somewhere, as one of my dwarves was found drained of blood. Oh, and to top it off, Urdim Dumatish, Bone Carver, apparently got in a fight with a jabberer and is now missing right upper arm, right lower arm, left lower arm, right hand and left hand. He refuses to go to the hospital and doesn't seem to be suffering though, other than spamming the "Urdim Dumatish, Bone Carver cancels store owned item: too injured" message. So all in all, good times.

Novice-everything fishery worker with dabbling armoring had fey mood and liked steel which I had. It's a nice shield and a legendary armourer now.
Also, [CAN_LEARN] war elephant with three pulverised goblins on his list. Skilled fighter with some novice and dabbling skills now. Novice observer for some reason.

It's a pity I can't combine steel + legendary armorer + war elephant though. Would be so rad.

Migrant Fort:
Killed it's Forgotten Beast in the tomb, but then another one showed up.
A child managed to punch the shell off the 2nd beast, but at that point everything was broken and they ran out of gas.
After its 3rd tantrum spiral had run its course, I just opened the gate to let the seige clean up the stragglers.
It has a lot of charcoal, wood, mail shirts, and metal bars. But all the dwarves are dead

Noble Fort:
Celebrated the piercing of the aquifer.
Celebrated the addition of an outside pasture with wall 2-Z high.
Celebrated the addition of a 2nd level on the tower, which is properly walled.
Even though one Axe Lord's mother&sibling were in the migrant fort, he's been Getting Used to Tragedy.
He is drinking away his problems with some nice River Spirits.
Anticipating it's 4th Axe Lord in a few months.

Masterwork Fortress has animal armoring. Not sure if it works with elephants, though

Well, my largest project, tackling the cavern floor by floor, has begun. First floor is 50% completely floored, will have plenty of workshop and storage space.

Dumed's hammer singlehandedly drove away an entire force of 30 goblins. I sent the military out to deal with an orc Sneak. Dumed showed up first on the scene. After toying around grappling and breaking each of the orc's limbs, the goblins showed up to see him launch the sneak with his hammer. The orc flew across the fields, smashed into the goblin leader, breaking his everything, and throwing him off the map. The other goblins squeaked, dropped their weapons, and ran off screen. I need a forgotten beast to show up -_-

Zombie siege in my *first* fort. My first first fort died because I was such a noob it wasn't even fun trying to fix all the mistakes I made. Around 15 casualities from 96 dwarves. Mostly militia because I have no idea how to keep them from charging 30 zeds bare fisted. They see any enemy, they run like hell in their direction, ignoring the safety of fortifications and (even one with artifact mechanism and =weapons=!) traps. FML. Or rather FMDwarves. It wasn't my fault they died.
It wasn't.
It wasn't
it wasn't...

Interesting. Masterwork keeps sounding more and more interesting.

What I just did in my current fort though;

With a nice snapshot from the aftermath;

edit; everybody still alive should be able to get out. I'm just waiting for ghosts to show up and then I'll abandon.

Wow, after an entire year Ushmal the goshenite quadraped just reappeared after fighting off an entire zombie horde of crundles. When it got pushed into the dark depths I thought it was gone for good. It came back, fought off a boil of Pond Grabbers - when from the seas the corpse of Ordir the moth beast emerged. They both fought so hard they got knocked back into the lake beneath the cavern, in absolute darkness. Ushmal finally died, not before breaking both of Ordir's wings.
I may sacrifice a boar to the Magma sea, it was sad to see this fighter go.
Also do you like twins?
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Silentthunders has twins!

But seriously, can these things be killed? I'm scared.

snow creatures should be relatively killable. Beating them will probably break away tissue, resulting in their death.
