Action: Arvin handed the ladder to Logan

"Agreed. There were two more aside from the paths forward, I believe. We were going counter clockwise, yes?"

The phoenix chirps pitifully as you abandon it in the darkness.

The next path leads to a closed door. The door swings open easily (the lock seems to have rusted away long ago). Inside is a small, yet cozy den. On each side of the room are shelves filled with dusty tomes, there is a very old rocking chair in front of a dead fireplace. There is a heavy looking table and several chairs along the back wall. There is a round table in between the fireplace and rocking chair.

A book lies open on the round table, and has lain open, perhaps, for centuries.

"We should be careful here. Some of these things may fall apart at a harsh touch...or a breath. Hopefully they've withstood the ages well."

Action: What can I make of the page of the opened book without disturbing it? Also, make sure to take a peek beneath all the tables, and use my staff to poke in the fireplace.

(You ass. :C)

Logan looked over his shoulder as they left, then followed along to what appeared to be a library. "This seems like a room for you two. I'll just wait over here." He sat in a nearby chair and waited for the scholars to go over things.

It is written in a language you do not know, despite your scholarship. Truly an obscure dialect, perhaps Kala would have better luck.

The tables have nothing but centuries worth of dust bunnies and cobwebs. You struggle to stifle a sneeze, but sneeze anyway. The fireplace has nothing inside it, it is only a hole in the wall with another hole leading upwards (probably acting as a smoke chimney).

(( :P ))

The chair smashes apart the instant you get comfortable and you fall flat on your back. The wood seems to have rotten and eaten by termites over the years. Close inspection of the rest of the furniture proves the same, all except for the rocking chair. ((Unless that's where you sat down, in which case, ignore the falling on your ass bit))

(Well, I didn't mean the rocking chair, so... :P)

Logan grumbled. "Should've figured." He sighed and cleared the wood out of the way, then just moved so he was sitting on the floor with his back to the wall. "Think we should smash some of this worthless furniture up and get a fire going?"

"Why isn't the rocking chair all decayed?" Examine Rocking Chair. Maybe it's valuable?

"Can you make anything of these words, Kala?"

Action: Try to carefully remove one of the books from the shelves and peruse it.

Your experience in the market (Amateur Haggler) tells you it could be valuable. You can't identify the maker, but the wood might be fishwood, which is a natural insect repellant.

Its...a cookbook!

"Huh. Maybe Logan could use this..." Arvin mused, thinking of this mornings breakfast with a shudder.

Action: Any good recipes for Dragonradishes in here?

Its quite old, so you don't even recognize half the stuff but there does seem to be a recipe for a vegetable stew which might contain a dragonradish.

"Let me have a look."

Read the book on the table.

It's in a "touch-tongue", a writing system for the blind. The words heat up when you touch them and the reader can (usually) determine what the words are by running their fingers across the page. Luckily the language operates through magic and you're not entirely unfamiliar with this sort of language (Master Arcanist, Professional Linguist) so you might be able to read it. It will require some energy however (need skill-check)

"...I've never heard of 'Garum'..." Arvin commented to himself. He was a bit downcast-he loved books, and there would be no way to carry even most of these back with them unless they were truly valuable...of course, what people would pay for was no actual indication of the value of a good book...

Action: Check the other books in stock, looking for anything interesting or valuable.

((Also, I vote for spending a turn trying to read the touch-book, if you want to. We have plenty of oil for now, though we don't want to get to distracted...still, we might want to save it for later. ))
