((We're gonna keep up the banter? Still need dat lore check tho. :P ))
((Not much else to do.

As for what you wrote earlier... I pictured Kala as someone who realised that even if she personally doesn't care too much for it, knowledge is power. Being a magician commands a certain kind of respect you just can't get via other means. It's not something for it's own sake: she's more practically minded. She just wants a cushy life. ))

"I was looking at the sweet little chick nad imagining the sweet little gold coins, actually. Hold on a second longer."

How can Kala unhook the cage?

She can't, not unless she has set of a lockpicks, a key or the ability to bend metal bars like tinfoil - ah, wait - she does have that ability: telekinesis! Or, you know, a lever...but the former is cooler.

With a rusted chain, the little cage door is locked.

"Well, there has to be some way to lower and detach the cages. You can't tell me the Queen hopped on on her consorts shoulders every time she wanted to pet her birds. It's either in here, or in one of the adjoining rooms.

Of course, there is a possibility she was actually nine feet tall...either way, this little fellow isn't going anywhere in the immediate future. We could leave him here until we're ready to leave, once we've found a master key of some sort."
He muses.

Action: Okay, let's search the room for a lever or switch.

((Also, we don't have exactly have lockpicks but Arvin does no doubt have a needle in his first aid kit which could serve the purpose, if needed.))

"Yes... if we have to, I can use my mighty magic might to rip the chain apart. But I'd prefer to reserve that to when it's really needed.

We have the map, so as you say, we'll be able to return."

((Oh yeah, and I guess the knowledge check on the bird I was asking for could wait as well. No real reason to spend our fuel right now, though I did want to know if it was safe to move/pick up the phoenix, and how often it burned up. I mean, it could be useful in many ways...))

"You know, I'm a big guy. Maybe I could just jump up, grab the cage, and hang on. The extra weight might snap the chain."

"You could, but would it be wise? I'm not entirely sure what would happen if you hurt the phoenix accidentally. It might incinerate us all."

Logan carefully put Kala down and sighed. "Then I guess we'll just come back for it. Maybe we can bring something to stand on back with us - other than me."

"I'll reiterate that we're not too old for me to give you another wet willy. I remember how much you liked those." Logan reached over and tussled Arvin's hair.

"I also liked to ride Fanged Wyverns to impress the ladies. I grew out of that as well. Surprisingly." Arvin said, unconsciously rubbing the old scar on his elbow.

There are no levers or switches despite hours of searching. The only useful thing you manage to find is a very old wooden step-ladder lying haphazardly along one wall. It seems a bit shaky but it should hold firm so long as someone holds it.

"Well, let's look in the other rooms. I doubt little birdy is going anywhere. Worst comes to the worst, we come back a different time... I think I oculd lead us back here if we can't carry all of the loot."
