Kawtari followed Aldeths explanation with ease, having much of the same thoughts.

"The Wrong are likely involved. If he attempts to contact you, inform me as soion as you can. Otherwise, until he is... treated... avoid contact, and try not to dwell on it overmuch."
She shrugged.
"This stone you mentioned... can you expand on that? I have my suspicions." A stone. Maybe the key, or a key, at least. Her previous trip to the Lost Isle had utilised a stone as a key... lost to the Wrong creature that had taken her companions. Even now, she wasn't how much luck or divine intervention had been involved in her escape.

"The stone? Eh...I know a big man can hold it in both of his hands, it's big, but it didn't seem very heavy to him. I thought it was hollow. It's made of a sort of dark grey, porous stone-almost like a sponge, I'd think, though it seemed solid enough. Has a symbol of an open eye on the front, with a crescent iris. Lots of little holes in it too, and it made a certain...put your teeth on edge sort-of-sound when the wind blew right."

This does strike Kawtari as familiar, though her own key didn't have these strange holes Risey described, and was made of the translucent crystal believed to be the material most used by the progenitors-it's construction was...flawed.

Akira gives Aldeth a pair of pants.
Aldeth nods her thanks and puts them on.

The party eventually makes it back to Omlett-Risey rushes off to see if the witch stoles any of her things...more than a few villagers come up to the party, demanding they do something about the weather

"It's obviously the work of that Mad Wizard! Everyone knows the season is always the same in the Autumn Lands! He's out of control!" they cry, all of them. Very loudly.

Aldeth quickly hides behind the largest party member; she doesn't like large, angry groups of people.

Sarco waved his arms calmingly at the crowd of people. "Do not be alarmed townsfolk. We are still seeking him. If he caused this change in the weather, which he may have not, he will certainly undo this once we bring him in. Now, do any of you have any information on him, where you saw him last, now would be the time to tell us, otherwise we shall go seek him on our own."

A chorus of shrugs, but one person speaks up.

"Heard he's been skulking around the larger farms-at a bushel of tomatoes this morning from her garden, Maddy said, then he flapped his arms and flew away."

Samara snorts, "If you truly believe that a mere wizard could so affect the seasons, you are ignorant and a fool," she declares loudly.

"Though I fear there is truth in his ravings, if the source of his madness is something akin to what the tale suggests."

Risey gave us quotes straight from the horse's mouth. What does Samara recognize or remember that could be linked to them?

Risey gave us quotes straight from the horse's mouth. What does Samara recognize or remember that could be linked to them?

Samara thinks back to her studies, but can't make much direct sense of it. There's always been theories of doors and portals to 'other worlds'-not just in the general sphere of our 'space' (Samara knows enough of astronomy to know Nepathica is a rock in a vast web of darkness and cold and the occasional life giving sun, and other rocks likely bear life similar to her own world). the documented existence of the Elemental Planes, Nine Hells and the High Heavens is at least supportive of this, but some argue they are just different levels of a single reality that all swirl around Nepathica, that there are no other layers of existence, but what she alone perceives. Asking what's beyond that is a circular argument-she recalls a particular lesson in this...

The child, who is most at home with wonder, says: Father, what is above the sky?
And the father says: The darkness of space.
The child: What is beyond space?
The father: The galaxy.
The child: Beyond the galaxy?
The father: Another galaxy.
The child: Beyond the other galaxies?
The father: No one knows.*

In short, most people don't bother looking for answers...they tend to end up the Mad Wizard Mark.

She does have no doubt the progenitor races probably knew more, but they've been gone for so long no one even remembers what they look like-and they took most of their secrets with them. She recalls a line...

Quote
'..the way to the center, where they went when they saw the rim of the universe and realized the tide was coming in..'

And can't help but be struck by it. Who is 'they'? The center of what? What tide?

Questions, questions...

Though you don't think it aloud, most of your thoughts are pretty much similar.

Unlike some detached Elven Academics, you know a great deal more or this, though not in a scientific way

You know that reality is impossibly large-worlds on top of worlds, different eras and timelines side by side. You know that in the cracks between worlds...things hide, and wait. They usually use lower beings like yourselves as prey, or playthings.

You know that despite all this, reality has an ever dwindling edge where these things do not even dwell. A place too horrible for the most horrible of beings.

And you know this edge is called Oblivion. It's also called the March of Time, Entropy, Eternal Darkness, The Nothing, The Final Eclipse-you name it. You've had fragmented nightmares of this thing all your life. You know one day Nepathica will end in fire and ice and decay, but you have always suspected (in your darkest dreams) a similar force acting on a much larger scale...perhaps that will eventually consume all worlds, all realities, even time itself.

Why do you think the Wizard lost his mind?

Tadhg searches the full measure of his ten intelligence points and assumes the man was talking literally-that he remembers his mother watching as he enjoyed the beach as a child-digging holes, visiting a lighthouse, and making sand castles. He assumes the man lost something important that sank in the ocean, and that most of his ramblings are merely childhood memories dredged up by fits of vast loneliness and deep depression.
