I wish for a single-core processor with as much power as modern multi-core PCs.

Granted.  You take an old Core-2 chip, saturate it in liquid nitrogen, and overclock the shit out of it.
Sadly, it still requires an old motherboard, with old ram, and old peripherals, making its usefulness very limited.

I wish for a more modular laptop design, using modular breakout cards. (The only things in the backplane are the USB ports, sound hardware, an mPCIe socketed wifi/bluetooth module, and the driver for the LCD. Everything else, (GPU, CPU+RAM, and SATA controller) is on breakout cards. Basically, the CPU+RAM card treats the motherboard and other breakouts as PCI(e) risers attached to its bus.)
