I just realized something, if a hurricane or a tropical storm hits Maryland like South Carolina got hit with the massive amounts of rain, people in Maryland are going to get hit hard.

Actually, it's just square footage, not the actual amount of rain falling on one’s house.  I think.
I'm reasonably certain that taxes are not going to be sky-high because nature decided to hate Maryland.

Yeah nobody in Maryland uses that "nickname".  The only times I've seen it has been haters on the internet.

Yeah it's not all that common of a nickname.

As far as gubernatorial nicknames go, Moonbeam is a common one for Jerry Brown.

Back when Jerry Brown was governor back in the late 1970s.  He proposed launching a emergency satellite system for California; one of his critics ridiculed him with the name and it stuck.

Incidentally, whenever Brown is governor, California has a major drought.

I don't exactly remember buckets of rain when The Governator was in office. Correlating a tenure with drought in California is like "Whenever there's an American President, there's a war somewhere in the world."
