Skaven are awesome in TT Mordheim. More heroes so you get more exploration rolls, those heroes can be made cheap, but they can level-up and be tooled up into pretty awesome killing machines, cheap as hell slaves, 2xdagger slaves, slings on everyone, a cool spell lore, more movement, not-terrible normal troops, a normal (ie: overpriced at the start) big guy.

They have no real downside other than a slight lack of armour (which virtually no-one buys anyway). So all good, almost no bad, very OP.

I can't recall, don't some of their guys start with subpar strength? Like a 2 instead of the normal human 3? Been a while since I cracked open my Mordheim book.

But yeah, they basically have no downsides. Other than not really excelling at close combat compared to other races. But CC in Mordheim was always dangerous (and conflict-laden) as hell, so I'd usually avoid it with everyone but my dual-wielding, poison-weaponed leader.

I hope they have undead. Undead teams may be full of dumb undead things that dont level, and terrible human dregs, but the vampire leader is basicaly a super elf without the disadvantages that vampires have in blood bowl.

Really looking foward to this, hopefuly they'll be faithful to the tabletop.

Yeah, but I hope they go for making a fun game rather than computerising the TT one as an exact copy. With many games it's the exact opposite, but the d6 WH combat system is really just there for simplicity of dice rolling, not an actual necessity. If they use the TT as an idea and simply implement it more thoroughly, it should be a great game. Sounds like that's what they've gone for, keeping all the flavour and core ideas of the original, but using it for a more tactical game style. Hope so anyway.

Oh, and I'll see your super-vamp and up it with 3 dual-dwarven-axe wielding psychos in gromril armour. It's parrytastically good :)

Of course, they'll never actually get into combat unless the opponent wants them to, but when they do they're almost untouchable.

Chapter Master is a WIP, but what it there is good. Plenty of potential. I don't know what game I'm looking forward to more now. Damn you bay12 and your constant selection of things to yet hyped about....

Actually, probably CM, just because I can play at least a bit of it now.

Well, now, this is interesting news. I have also waited for Mordheim to move to PC forever. So I am also hoping this isn't terrible. We shall see!

Skaven are one of my favorite races.  Not mechanically, because I've never touched a Warhams Tabletop, but goddamn is their art awesome.

Yeah, it's basically the Rats of Nihm on crack Warpstone. Crazy bastards just ingest the stuff raw.

I just like how they are basically Underdogs who... Kind of work with it.

Unlike... lets say Goblins who are underdogs who just flat out suck in every game they show up in... and when they aren't underdogs they are the overdogs (Warcraft)

Well....Skaven in Warhammer Fantasy Battle are considered very cheesy. Like, how Wood Elves are cheese for the good guys, Skaven are cheese for the bad guys. I remember back in 2nd ed, people would literally walk away from the game when Deathmaster Snitch (a Skaven legendary hero) would show up, because he was so unbelievably broken.

Skaven appear as underdogs at first blush, but in truth they are one the best armies for people who can adopt a specific strategy for using them. As opposed to, like you said, Goblins, which lack a lot of that strategic finesse in lieu of shit tons of units, shit tons of dice and whacky destructive units like Night Goblin Fanatics. Play Skaven that way and you will get your ass handed to you.

I'm not sure how they are now, but in WHFB there's been doomwheel derby cheese, warpfire/machine-gun cheese, almost infinite slave cheese, ding-dong cheese and super-assassin cheese across the different versions I've played. They were never the underdogs, and were always horribly broken on some basic level. Same as in Mordheim.

Bloodbowl's Skaven are the only ones that actually were a fairly balanced, if very strong early on, team. Except for one-turn-TDs, they are an abomination.

I wonder if they're keeping the various empire factions for human? Rich Marienburgers, thumpy Middenheimers, etc.
