I mean more conceptually underdogs. Rather then mechanically.

They are "not as good" as the other races but make it work for them by playing up their real advantages.

I guess I've just never seen them that way; they were always the 2nd army I wanted to play behind Chaos, and I've seen them used to such devastating effect before....in my mind, the real underdogs of WHFB are all the Empire races. Even in the lore, they weren't so much "hordes of dirty ratmen with warp magic" as "hordes of dirty ratmen with warp magic." If Chaos was the biggest threat to the world, the Skaven and the Horned Rat were the straw that would break the camel's back.

The sisters of sigmar got confirmed. Hell, if they are in the game, then I'm pretty sure dwarves, elves (high and dark) and undead will be in. So far only skaven, human mercs (nothing on marienburgs yet) and sisters have been confirmed.

EDIT: actualy, I'm not sure dark elves really feature in mordheim, since it takes place before warhammer? Eh, Im not sure anymore.

EDIT 2: Scratch that, I guess dwarves weren't among the original factions, or elves even. Just undead, possessed, witchhunters, sisters, skaven, and the 3 human merc bands.

I'm sure the other races could be added if the game does well enough to support that. Or rather, I'm sure the other races could be added to fit within the rules of Mordheim, or whatever system they've got going.

A warband of Ogres might only be about 3 brutes strong, or 1 Ogre and 15 Gnoblars, and a warband of High Elves would have to make saving throws against dirt stains. Dark Elves could be looking for slaves, though I think they use Warpstone for mutant creatures and/or torture.

I believe Blood Bowl has teams that don't feature in the original tabletop. I know it has different devs but both are GWS property. So at least on a corporate level GWS probably wont' scream HERESY if Mordheim gets non-tabletop races in it. I'd say it's definitely a possibility, if not at launch then in an expansion somewhere down the line.

Whatever, as long as they don't do what BB did and roll out a new standalone version of the game to support 2 or 3 more teams and some extra stadiums. Dicks.

Skaven are one of my favorite races.  Not mechanically, because I've never touched a Warhams Tabletop, but goddamn is their art awesome.

Oh wow. No experience with WH (that I know of, at least) but that IS some fetching art. I rather like what other people have described them as... hope the mechanics pan out. (Also: Playable skritt? *scampers off to a different thread*)

Checking that I'm reading the core concept of this game properly-- map-based TBS with persistent teams?

For the table top, yes. For the video game, they're talking about a 3rd person real time game that is somehow still semi-turn-based. Your guys are activated in order of initiative and I guess whatever you're doing with them takes place in real time. Made no sense to me when I read it. I wonder if RPS is conflating X-COM's turn-based action with what's going on here. Because as described it didn't make a lot of sense to me.

Maybe they mean an alternative real time mode like blood bowl's one? I mean, nobody ever used that thing, but maybe. I really hope they have the option to just play it as a turn based game.

Necro tiems: they launched a teaser trailer. Still hard to define how the combat will work jsut from looking at it however, but from my impressions, it could be kinda like xcom: enemy unknown by fixaxis, which is a very, very good thing in my book, as long as they stick to the  pnp rules like bloodbowl did.

Also, its been confirmed they'll be adding other warbands in updates or expansions after the game is released. Dwarves and Undead will probably be among the first added.

Also, early access is almost here.

Ugh. This feels like a game I won't want to try in EA at all.

Why not :v

I guess by the look and budget, it's something I don't feel should be Early Access. Can't name many if any GWS-based titles that do Early Access.

Plus, because it's 3d I'd expect broken/poor animations to start, not-great optimization, flickering textures, buggy levels and meshes, not to mention all the balancing that needs to go into it for the actual game to be fun. If there's an actual twitch component to the gameplay, that's just one more thing that probably won't be pretty in EA. I could be wrong, but having seen the state of many EA games, that are much simpler than this is appearing to be, and I'd just rather wait til release. I like Mordheim enough I don't really want to get into its first video game adaptation too early.

:v I understand, but thats exactly why I'm kind of interested in seeing how early access for mordheim will be like, because, like you said, games like this rarely do EA things. Also, from what little info we have, mordheim was in development a while before they actualy announced it, so it might not be that horrible. It'll likely just have pre-made missions and 2 factions to fight eachother and demonstrate some gameplay mechanics anyway.

EDIT: Also, its been confirmed they'll be adding some unique creatures to each warband that dont actualy exist in the tabletop, like that huge horned chaos beast in the trailer. At least I dont remember the tabletop possessed having that.
