Spoiler: Ireland turn 48 (click to show/hide)
I find myself in a severe need of wood. Not only to build my navy (which isn't particularly necessary at this point, as there isn't really any other navy in the area anymore), but to build all the improvements I need.

In return for wood, I would be willing to trade stone, iron or money. After turn 50 I will also be willing to trade food. And since there is so much wood on the continent, I figure someone over there must be willing to trade some.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

You know, I think Pictland had a lot stronger of a start compared to everyone else.  I don't think it was even possible for it to be able to conquer it, as it would be able to build up and stop you before you got halfway across its land.

If Northumbria and Mercia (hopefully with Wessex too) had teamed up, they could have taken out Wales and presented a united front against Pictland.

Population statistics of Ireland:
Total Area: 131
Controlled area needed for me to win: 104/105
Current controlled area: 93
Projected controlled area at turn 50:  98
Controlled area at turn 50 *if* I take pop out of all my cities to use in claiming more tiles: 107

As you can see from those statistics, I can claim enough of Ireland to win. But actually doing it requires that I take two pop from all my cities (that I can remove pop from), and will set me back at least 4 turns of building production (and probably more). Looking forward, I have decided that a more powerful nation is more important then fulfilling the turn 50 victory requirement.

Also, everyone has posted a turn NQT.

Update when I get home tomorrow. I don't mind if you try to pursue your wincons now the game is shifting, the point was mostly to encourage to pursue asymetrical goals.

I think most people have won or lost by now, though it might still be possible for Pictland to win. When turn 50 arrives, I'll retire Northumbria and play the Danes (unless a new player wants to jump in?).

Everyone okay with the new goal being Everyone vs. The Danes?

Take out Mercia and Wessex in two turns? Not even if he had five hundred invulnerable cavalry units. He doesn't even have time to reach Wessex, let alone destroy it.

If they tried to kill me, I'd just pump out as many ships as possible, scatter them across the map, and run them around the map like crazy.  If I'm lucky, I could get one to survive until turn 40, them make a beeline for any unclaimed territory on a coastline.

Edit: Or I could become a Vassal State of Pictland or Wessex.

See, that's not called a winning strategy, Zanz, that's called being a dick. >:( :P

Which also why to be considered defeated for Win condition purposes, you should just have no cities above size 4 left, and no reasonable chance of completing your win condition.

Which is why I would aim for Vassal State, providing whoever was taking the time to provide protection whatever resources I could scrounge.

Yeah, I forgot Pictland had to kill Wessex as well. Really they had a better chance taking out Ireland now I think about it.

Will update in approximately 3 hours or so.

Spoiler: 862 AD (click to show/hide)
Spoiler: Battle Log (click to show/hide)

Long barges carrying wood, stone blocks, gold and iron pass back and forth between Grimsby, Aberaeron and New York, as Ireland comes to the fore as a serious trade partner. The peace settlement of timber, sent from Lincoln to Winchester, was not enough to persuade the insatiable west saxons from persuing a policy of revanchism, swarming north to conquer Mercian lands. All the while the Scots spread downwards, taking Richmond (and its iron supply), and occupying York, the once proud seat of the Northumbrians.
