lets combine the goats and the doe, and create the masterful "devil hoe" bone figurine with four horns and extremeely powerful legs
I like this more.
Sounds cool.

We should probably experiment with goat skeletons and try to make bone construct, just for the sake of practice. But that requires mana, so leave Band of Gathering into the cave to recharge, while... um, practice with twohander and the bow?

Then you get cities like Paris where you should basically just kill yourself already.

You won’t have to think anymore: it’ll be just like having fun!

+1 To practice, briefly consider how practical decorating the cave and making up a fake story about your appearance would be in case you ever wanted to trick people passing by into staying for the night so you can murder them in their sleep.

Basically, we could also have a party with them to get them drunk first. I win by getting parties, everyone else wins by getting murder.

+1 Why, we're an eccentric old man who likes to dress up as a ghoul and throw parties with strangers. Don't mind the skeletons, they're just decorations!

I was thinking more along the lines of the good ol' "I was cursed by a wizard, which is why I live in this cave away from civilization" bit.

( Moving goes along fine. Flat should be functional and equiped sometime next week. Still other stuff to do though. Eh, at least halfway there, or so I hope. ;3 )

The Plains of Grating, Fifth Age
The Age of Death, Year 625

Day 11, Early Morning Hours

With all these lifeless skeletons, you feel driven to make something special out of them. You take the deer skeleton, and supplement the legs with additional bones from two of the goats. Actually, you use them to strengthen pretty much all the parts of the deer with additional bones, safe the skull. There you put two pair of horns. Even though it is still a rather simple and straight-forward construct, it is not before daybreak that you finish the build and calculations.

You start the incantation, and immediately run into a few problems – while you customized the animate skeleton spell to suit this quite particular one, it is off. While trying to keep the spell about as stable as the casting allows you, you ultimately mess it up even more. Unable to raise the bones correctly, the backlash is not even shared between you and the construct – you taking the full brunt of it.

The agony of mana rampaging through your body is severe, and you faint. At least that is what you wish would happen, but your undead nature is cruel at this point. Feeling your panicked state, your constructs immediately surround you, but obviously are not able to ease your suffering. A few long and painful minutes later, the agony stops, with you able to examine the damage. You immediately notice that all of your mana has dispersed, and your right leg to be numb and un-compliant. The mana has thoroughly burned through your body, and you know that gathering – not even to speak of casting it – will be extremely difficult if not downright impossible for some days.

For all that it is worth, a closer look at the bones reveals that they are not damaged. Somehow you are not happy that the only one to sustain damage was you, but it might even turn out for the better. You also find out that walking with the numb leg is a chore in and of itself – here is hope that all these magically induced symptoms heal fast.

Currently:
205/205 HP
0/175 MP
30 MP Stored

Status:
Well-Fed - Doubled HP-Regeneration
Sentient Nourishment - +3 Agility and Intelligence for Skill- and Combat-checks
Numb Right Leg - Walking has never been so difficult
Unable to Cast - Just hope this one wears off soon
Severe Manaburn - Makes casting spells and gathering mana harder. Resulting in easier miscasts. Funny how that works.

" That blunder aside. Now that I am clothed I actually could pass as some orc or goblin halfbreed. Still, anyone with more than a spark of magic would instantly feel how it really is, and to anyone of schooled intellect my eyes have a good chance of giving out the truth. "

Well now, that was a spectacular fail right there. Hey, at least we did not roll so bad that one of the damages is permanent. Or did we?

I imagine if 'unable to cast' was the pernament one thigns would be over rather quickly.

Fashion some walking sticks out of some branches or something. Hobble like tiny tim.

Rest, rest. Hide out until we start to heal. We can't do much else.

Guess we rest cool off, practice our non-magic skills once we can.

Fake backstory wise, if you really want one, we could be a soul trapped in this ghoulish body by the now dead evil necromancer, only recently becoming free and sustaining our self due to the nature of our body.
We don't want to eat sentient flesh but it becomes hard to think if we don't, we simply want live, ect ect.
Our undead were people that attacked us and people we killed when the hunger became to much. People we only raised to protect us from others who don't understand our suffering.

Whole lost everything and forced to become a monster and trying to learn to cope with it deal.

Leave the band of gathering away. That is going to help us to recover faster when the burn subsides.

We should probably think about creating constructs that could store the backlash energy when misdoing a spell, hurting them instead of us.

That would be good, for when we have power back.

Try to refrain from eating your limited human meat while resting - It might just be more than four days until you're back at full capacity, and you don't want to be forced to hunt humans while living on lesser food.

Will we be resting until we're fully recovered, or just until we can cast spells again? I think it would be better to hunt early, since we don't want to overtax the protagonist's willpower, and we don't know how much harder hunting will be in a week.

+1 to both, and try walkin around with walking sticks or something so we know how limited our movement will be. Try to practice archery and swordmanship while recovering. Also, our next attack should probably be further in the desert to draw suspicion away from our cave. Just in case.

Check your herbs, Those things can heal stuff right? or at least make a mind-clearing tea for backlash relaxation
