Yeah, I'm not really helping there... forgot about Salem again a bit, and more or less played my other char when I didn't. I really have to come back.  :)

So someone bought Salem from seatribe.

There's a bit of a Q&A in the thread. There's also a guy named champie becoming a paranoid wreck over it. Watch a man degrade from mostly normal forum user to "you're a fictional character because you didn't tell me anything about yourself unlike the rest of the people on the forum who also haven't told me anything about themselves".

Thread was worth reading for Champie alone.

A really cool thing about Salem conceptually is the humor meters. I don't know what they do, but I like the concept.

While I haven't been playing (or even following closely) I have checked in on the Salem forums now and again.

It really looks like the new owners are putting work into it. They have already re-done the store, removing items that give you skills for cash. They plan to add stalls really soon (or maybe did recently) to allow for better selling of goods (thank god). They have also run a few in game events that at least seem cool from the forum.

Best of all there is a development roadmap now.

Does anyone still play?

Heh i wasn't aware that there been owner changes.
Really fun game. We should someday start again and build that megasize city we planned on heh.
New developers might actually bring fresh ideas to the game.

They certainly seem to be trying at the very least. Last few updates have been pretty big.

Yeah, they've made a lot of good changes, so things are looking up. I'm playing, but just barely enough to keep my claim upkeep. If anyone wants to join me feel free to PM, I've got all the basic facilities and a lot of the skills (not the high cost new ones though).

Glad to see DJ hasn't given up on it.

I'd consider rejoining in a couple of months. I checked all my characters and it looks like I had zero silver left when I quit.

Just one more bump, in case people missed that the game is under new management.

Anyway, if your main problem with the game was the pace, you should definitely give it another go. The new devs have taken a number of steps to accelerate the early game. Walking speed has been doubled, there's a new broken bough inspirational that gives points in every proficiency and is very easy to get (you get 2-3 per inventory worth of picking branches) so you can use it to bruteforce the early skills (it's not very efficient to spam later on, though), you can remove the gluttony cooldown and instantly refill inspiration with potions, herb and animal spawns have been increased so there's less time spent walking looking for something specific, trees and shrubs refill their limited products (maple leaves, berries etc) in only a couple of days rather than a couple of weeks, and haystacks have been implemented which turn 1 grass into 1 hay rather than having to craft hay with 5 grass (you can still do it if you need hay right away, haystacks take 2 days to dry) - and if you ever tried pushing influence on fields you know that large quantities of hay are a must. The late game has been slowed down a bit, though, by introduction of some high end skills that require ridiculously high proficiencies, but none of these skills is really a must have.

Just started playing, looks interesting. Probably it will hold my attention until I get estabilished and get bored after that.

Beside burning through my inspiration, the main issue is all the shit I find around. What to keep and what to dump, as always in this kind of games.
I'm looking for a place to settle (no lime so far), going around with full inventory and two baskets on a sled. I understand savage charms are a good source for early money, so I'm saving them.
What else should I take? I'm saving items with higher proficiencies to study and other stuff that seem less common.

Frankly, I wouldn't bother saving anything until you find a place to settle. And in general only pick stuff you know you'll use right away or in the near future, because everything is common enough to find when you really need it. Exception is silver stuff, ofc, ie those savage charms you're saving. Ditch the sled, it's slowing you down immensely and you want to move fast when exploring.

If you want to and you haven't used up your wilderness spawn you can spawn at my place, it's got decent terrain diversity, lime included. You can either join me or settle in the area and do your own thing, whichever you prefer. PM me for HS if you want to do this.

I might take a look at this, but I'm just getting back into Guild Wars 2 and it's hard to do 2 MMOs.  How much would I need to play to keep a claim?

I don't remember the exact numbers, but it shouldn't take more than a cricket team or two to keep a claim maintained and it only takes 10 or 15 minutes to find a team, depending on your luck in exploring.
