: What is this place? As if the laws of all logic weren't already being twisted enough.

Seraphim carefully followed off the ship and closer to the temple.

"Hell if I know, we just got here and I never heard stories about what is INSIDE the gates. I thought we were just going to open the vault and find riches or some magic orb."

"Well, if it's a place where creatures made of magic like Dullahans can live, then maybe it's a place where magic is stronger than usual. Maybe we can't expect things to work the way they're supposed to."

Kat was curious, but not curious enough to separate from the group and explore.

: I don't remember a place where things went as wrong as this. Or do I?

"Are we going to be safe exploring a place like this or are we going to be all twisty ourselves? I signed up for gold, not being... Whatever this is."

"...This is the first time I see something like this. We are capable of molding ores and gems, not our surroundings, so this is extremely bizarre."
"We already got this far, so we might as well push forward. This is the only island we found in a long time sailing, and for all we know this could be the only island around too."

"I agree. We should be cautious, however. The weather could be dangerous, if nothing else."

While the path leading the temple proved to be quite hostile, needing to go through both sand and snow and even thunderstorms, they did manage to climb the shaky stairs leading to the entrance. And even if the temple seemed so vast and impressive from the outside, the inside proved to be a lot less interesting. Aside from banners on the walls and a few pillars leading to a throne facing the other direction, there wasn't much else to be seen or examined.

"This is it, then. A brief peace before anything else. I'd like to keep something as a memento."

Aura tries to levitate and get one of those banners for safekeeping.

: Did we enter from the back? That seat isn't facing our way. At least it's calmer in here.

"Well, if we did, at least that's consistent with being a thief."

Kat inspected the back of the throne, wondering if there were any inscriptions or such upon it.

Moving closer to the throne made it very clear that someone was still sitting on it, and if the shadow of the figure becoming more visible on the walls didn't make that clear, the voice certainly proved that this was no illusion from the twisted temple.
"Please, keep your hands away from those banners, they are important to me. Now then...I did not expect my heroes to be so eager to pilfer my residence."
When the mysterious figure finally stood up and moved from the throne to reveal himself...it wasn't a monster, at all. Instead it was a human holding a chalice.
"Now then, I suppose introductions are in order, correct? I am Rundum."

Seraphim's surprise was nothing short of complete.

: A- A human?! After all this, what's waiting at the other end of the Gates, the sea and the temple is a human? What kind of human are you?!

"..."

"Don't tell me that there's some bullshit about the real treasure being our friends or something like that. I came here for money, not for some pale-ass poof to give us all a life lesson."

"There is actual treasure, right? It's not a cock and bull story?"
