Nice graphics and a very comprehensive treatment of clothing layers.

I think it'd be worth mentioning that layering multiple levels of armour on a soldier is completely optional; good defensive skills are perfectly adequate to keep a soldier with mail shirt, leggings, helm, gauntlets, high boots and a shield and nothing else reasonably safe from harm.

- you might want to get the "wood" option out of the way by just mentioning that you cannot make any wooden clothing/armour items in fort mode, but elves can bring wooden armour items of all types (i.e. everything with an "armour" level) apart from leather armours. (They can also bring wooden caps, which are remarkably useless not just for being wooden "armour", but also because they still have no armour flag and wear out from use.)

- helms: those cannot be made from cloth, but can be made from bone.
- cloth "counts" - i think it'd be better to leave them out of the normal display - clothes made from plant, yarn or silk cloth only consume one bolt of cloth per item (item pair in case of mittens and the like). The only case where "item size" actually translates into increased material consumption is with adamantine cloth. Could be mentioned in brackets as extra information, but for most clothing work, the number doesn't matter.

This is awesome!
If I could make a quick technical suggestion - the compendium is currently using the .jpg file format, which is lossy - it loses quality every time someone edits and re-saves an image, and isn't designed for text. You can already see some compression artifacts creeping in:
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
You might want to try using the .png format instead, which is lossless and won't have those problems  :)
It might increase the file size of the images, but not very much, and the increase should be worth it.

I implemented most of your suggestions and I'm currently uploading the revised pages.

I just saved all images as png, the total size for the album is 230 mb. It's still over 200 mb as a zip file.

I can't upload it to DFFD as it's over 100 mb (file limit). Also, uploading these files takes already hours for me and I would rather upload the PNG files itself instead of a zip file that i have to completely re-upload after each change. :(

I think I need an alternative to DFFD or even better an alternative to Imgur that doesn't scale huge pngs files down...

Your uploaded images are a very high resolution. The resized versions immediately visible in the imgur album are perfectly readable (to me) and only 950x672 and appear to be ~900 kB, while the full resolution pages are 3508x2480 and ~9 MB. You could save a lot of space if you reduce the resolution of the uploaded versions.

3508x2480 equals 300 dpi which is the standard resolution for print.

When I'm finished with the Compendium it will probably exceed 1 gb. I don't want to upload 1 gb at once. Uploading multiple 10 mb big pngs is way less painful.

I know that i could reduce the filesize by reducing the resolution, but thats not what I want.

Maybe you should have two versions, then. The print resolution might be your eventual goal, but a quarter-sized version for web-only reading is much more accessible and faster to upload, so people can offer feedback sooner.

On your first armor overview page, you say that metal armor will not wear, but leather armor will wear out over time. This isn't true: whether or not an item wears isn't based on its material, but on the item type.

Some wearable items are considered Armor; the rest are considered Clothing. Armor items will not wear, regardless of material; and Clothing items will wear, regardless of material.

The items which are considered Armor are all those which can be made out of metal, except caps and masks. So, a leather helm will not wear, while a leather hood will; and an iron helm will not wear, while an iron mask will.

Go to the imgur album, and download each page seperately. They should only be a few hundred kB.

2 sets is definitely a good idea :)
More file format nonsense:
You could use .jpgs for the online versions, if you have working copies in another format - just edit the master .pngs or .psds or whatever and re-export them as jpgs to save space on imgur.
Also, the typical format for print images is tiff, according to the Internet. Not super important (they tend to be bigger than .pngs anyway) but if you intend to get this professionally printed it might be good to keep in mind.

General rule is 72 dpi for screen & 300 for print. 72 dpi would also be good for most people for printing rough copies, so should be all you need to upload on DFFD. You could then link to an external file site (or upload in batches) for anyone wanting full-resolution files.

This is an incredible resource, especially the armor layering section. I've never really understood that part of the game very well. Thank you so much for compiling all of this.
