So i ran into a landed medium ship, as it was full day i sent my special daylight assault team instead of waiting for night and send my night ops gals squad because chances are the ship would have already left.
Near my scorpion were 2 soldiers i was unfamiliar with, "waspite"
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
As the first one got one-hit killed by a markslaser snap shot and the 2nd got destroyed by 2 snap shots, i thought that it wasn't going to be too hard despite the heavy plasma, assuming i was the one getting the first shot and reaction shot everytime.

Until the 2nd turn, in which i started to see several psy/voodoo attack my gals brains, followed by a couple of shots with one annihilating a Gal (as there was no corpse left)
We spotted another of those waspite, but probably bad luck with random part of the damage formula because this one resisted 6 direct laser shots, only fell on the 7th.

Well, i was considering if i should try to fetch a corpse for study and run away (the mind/voodoo attack were a bit concerning as some gals were then going insane) as i pressed the end turn button, it was when the ufo doors opened and we spotted briefly a couple of those guys
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
Before getting more gals insane and 2 more gals destroyed by plasma.

Ok, i guess we're not ready for them :D

That's pretty close to my my one and only encounter with them so far too.  They're brutal.

Be thankful that we can even see them now :-X
(People say they used to only be "visible" or maybe even tangible from certain diagonal angles, but even Dioxine decided that was too much)

I don't know about blaster launchers (the Jellyfish's weird battlescape cannon might use waypoints?) but they *say* supply ship guards have certain Star-God-banned weaponry.  Just be careful, they can reaction fire XD

Which is a lot trickier now since supposedly bases are guarded by Hunter-Killers so it's even trickier to yoink their supplies.  Which is fair, heh.

I just slogged through my first pogrom with those, and they're a PITA. It's mostly their shields, though - blast them with a bunch of auto-fire shotgun rounds 'til they stop blinking and then they're doable. The operative that was with them who got KO'd by a nearby rocket was invisible from anything but short range, though. That could have been unpleasant. None of those clothies were nearly as bad as the sectopods that were with them, of course. There was A LOT of popping in and out of my ship to snipe then hide that fight, and only one civilian survivor.

Seduction was okay for the Novices with them and for putting all the clothies back down, but didn't do wonders when they were still fresh. They resist charm rather dramatically.

I'm doing the gray codex this run, and I just used the drill a month or so ago. Without going back, is there still a way to get the new stuff that comes with the gray codex (gnome, brainer outfit)?

Taking Grey codex just gives you a gnome now??  Wow yeah!  That's really good.  I haven't confirmed myself but that probably means you could go Back To School without joining the Mutant Alliance, by getting Sci Books from her.  Quite a buff (compared to the *other* way to avoid allying, which seems absurd).

Anyway, the save file is pretty simple!  The inventory list is in alphabetic order which could be important.  Here's what my line for Gnome looks like, with context:
Code: [Select]
      STR_GIANTSPIDER_TERRORIST: 1
      STR_GLAMOUR: 16
      STR_GNOME: 1
      STR_GOLDEN_CUP: 1
and Brainer outfit:
Code: [Select]
      STR_BOW_QUIVER: 20
      STR_BRAINER_OUTFIT: 1
      STR_BRIEFCASE: 1
(popped back to a save I made before using the drill, since I went Gold this time.  green still the biggest and the strongest tho)

Thank you. And I didn't take green because it's pretty nice. Trying something different. Red's real early chainmail and golds...gold isn't bad either, though.

Edit: I'm looking at my weapon progression. Handles and flintlocks -> Stun Batons/Leather Whips and Pocket Lasguns/rusty niners -> Electro Lassos is a good progression if you like hostages for money/chips/research. I still manage to fill my third prison pretty regularly (mostly while processing doom enemies into essence) after a year in-game, and run out of casino chips about every 6 months.

Grenades (including molotovs and black powder) are always around for when you find something you can't handle at your level, and I've always got one gal in each search team with a different toolset. The problem is, what do I do when I start finding stuff I can't handle anymore? The reticulan trashcan robot, the church cardinal, and eventually mercenaries ignore everything or nearly so I throw at them. I've kept a lot of shotguns and miniguns. I have 4 more LASSes, which are my go-to when ratlings bring cars. I guess I can also tech up to lasers about a month after my library finally finishes building, but that doesn't help with everything either. What should my non-standard equipment gals be carrying? Especially as cardinals and the like are the ones you want to capture live the most, so using up all of my killer bees to take one out isn't a great plan A.

Cardinals aren't very difficult, just bring their shield down, then handles or batons should do the job.

Lasers are mostly good can openers because they ignore some armor. Keep the raygun around, you can sometimes get new ammo from the church (mostly). Plasma has very nice armor damage, so can open most things with some patience.

I don't know your standard layout, so it is difficult to say. I prefer to have a mix of gals in quick armor (flying -> swiftsuit -> blitz) that are usually armed with melee and a deathblossom once I get those, gals in power armor once it is available, or decent other armor before that, and some for special stuff, that might carry different things. A flying sniper, a mortar gal with big pockets, voodoo. Always depends on playstyle, of course.

For some missions heavy armor is all you need. Tunnels are still annoying, but less so when you don't have to fear someone around the corner. So 4 gals in power armor can do quite quickly in realtime, because you don't have to be concerned about them getting killed.
(I ignore the Junkmaster though.)

Hey, just chekcing in here but is anyone getting VooDoo skill increases? I got Ye Olde Magick Shoppe and am using their tools but as far as I can tell I've gone on plenty of missions and even using the wand or glove 3 times isn't giving increases? Am I missing something? Do I need to wear novice robes?

I can't check right now because my new save is still very early game, but last I played a few months ago, I needed to uselessly spam the Heartgrip Staff to train voodoo. It makes the start stuff nearly useless (other than the plasma-damage glove for certain risky plays), because who wants to get kills without xp?
The analysis info section will tell you if something trains xp. If it's blank, it doesn't.

The magma glove says it trains psi skill. I had to pack my laptop away so I can't check for a while.

Quick addendum: many xp training sections are blank but train stats anyway. Most obvious place is in melee weapons. Above 12 tu per attack are blank but train melee, while the faster ones list melee and reactions.

I am pretty sure you wands of airlessness train voodoo as well, as do a lot of voodoo skills.

Do you have voodoo schools? Because without you won't be able to see the voodoo skill stat, and I presume changes to that.

Seductress Dress works well for it.

Okay, yeah that's the answer I was looking for. I would have thought though that unlocking voodoo lets you train the skill up though. I opened my save file in notepad ++ to check and everyone is at 0
