I stir one direction and then switch. You also have to move the stirrer across all the surfaces inside to make sure nothing is sticking.

However, if I'm stirring something where I have to stir like a madman, I go counter-clockwise and hold the bowl like I'm killing it. But then I put it down and stir in the other direction a little.

I've been known to do every technique mentioned thus far. Except Skyrunner's W. That's just weird, Sky.

It's rare that I ever have cause to stir anything, but when I do I often stir one direction, then immediately start stirring the other (probably clockwise first).
Biowraith doesn't always stir. But when he does, he stirs in alternate directions.
He's ... the most interesting wraith in the world.

Twitch muscle response; results in counter-clockwise direction of stir. Does not actually "Stir". The movement is more of a twitchy back and forth motion.

This poll is quite deficient. We need to know which hand people stir with, too.

That would likely just be whatever hand is dominant. I'm left handed so I use my left hand.

I'm left-handed and I use my right hand, so my left is free to do things that aren't moving in a circle.

Saw this this morning, and just got back from lab. It seems that I almost exclusively stir things counterclockwise. Weird.

I stir counterclockwise most of the time. If I'm stirring something not very fluid for some time, mostly when cooking, I periodically change way, alternating clockwise and counterclockwise to ensure maximum homogeneity.

Handedness would be nice to know because it would reveal if left-handed stirrers are more likely to stir clockwise and right-handed stirrers counter-clockwise, or vice versa, or neither.

Determining handedness alongside the current properties would require at least a doubling of the polling options. Is this really what you madmen want?

I usually stir something clockwise until the liquid is spinning at a decent clip, then I immediately switch to counter-clockwise because I like the little waves that it makes when I do that.
Try not to do this with filled-to-rim containers.

Scientifically... erm, well, at least experimentally proven to agitate the liquid best! :D

I have a feeling there will be a trend with handed-ness for stirring. I am a lefty, and it is easier to stir inwards, or clockwise, for me. Assuming inward stirring true, most righties would be counter-clockwise.

Every dwarf, every dwarven man, women, and child, that comes to our forts will die there; it's truly sad when you think about it. And we ask our selves, why? Why do we push forward, knowing this fate, that we are destined for failure? Because, this game grasps the concept of mortality. Some games you can never lose, but we all stop eventually, causing a 'death' to those game's 'worlds'. Dwarf Fortress gives us a definite end, knowing that we will leave that world eventually, and move on to more.
