Well, the industral capacity? That I can see staying. The research bonus would be lost due to all the scientists and engineers fleeing the territory.
Full research would be FAR too much of an advantage though. Industry is fine, since that doesn't scale. I'd say around a third to a quarter of the original value would be fair?

Do excuse me, Taricus, but it is a bit too convenient that you've only now decided to bring that up now. A strategy game whose parameters are mutable with no prior input as to their mutability is no strategy game at all. How would one plan ahead in chess were it so that the rook could be suddenly declared to have the same movement pattern as a bishop? One wouldn't, it'd  be madness.

Argue over the balance as you may, and I will give my input on that at a later date, the principle to be defended here, first and foremost, is that of consistency. Full research it was declared it'd be, full research is what we all had to plan our moves over, and full research should therefore be what it remains.

I can't quite make sense of what you mean there, in the second paragraph. Unless there has been some misunderstanding, and we haven't been speaking about whether or not captured capitals should provide 10 RP, the motivation behind this conversation is clearly whether or not captured capitals should provide full research value.

If there has, indeed, been a misunderstanding, please do tell.

It's a bit more of a specific issue, one too fine to have a real difference in chess. It's more like...this is going to take a bit of explanation.
In Civilization IV, and maybe V (I haven't played it), cities have a Culture...pool, I guess. It accumulates over time, slowly under normal conditions, but faster with the right buildings or whatever. When a city is conquered, this culture pool resets to 0. (I never got that. Was Rome made less of a famed city by being conquered by the barbarians, its greatness only creeping up under its current ownership by the modern Italian nation? What about Teotihuacan and Troy, Washington, DC and Byzantium/Constantinople/Istanbul? But I digress.) You could make the argument that having to rebuild all your culture after losing and reconquering it is unfair to those going for culture victories, or who for whatever reason need wide borders. This situation is like changing how culture loss during conquest works in the middle of a game of Civilization.

I think his problem was that you were implying he had an ulterior motive in arguing for lower research output.


Overall...pick something and stick to it. The original implication was that research rates would remain the same when the capital was conquered, but it's not like anyone's plans hinged on doubling their research rates by conquering an enemy--they hinged on conquering enemies because it's that kind of game.

I (somehow) wield a marble coffin that i fill with the corpses of all I have slain (to make an already heavy object even heavier) in one hand, and the other holds a book made out out of fucking platinum. The book can crush skulls, and the coffin grows ever stronger and now that is has a few dead dragons in it, it sends people flying a mile backwards to explode in a pile of gore. Gore which I then place into the coffin,

Also Evilcherry, the unit does need stats. Might want to put that in your turn as well unless you PMed that to USEC.

Of course! I'm just overhauling my combat program as I'm typing this, since it was a piece of crap. It's working much better already (though I'm kinda rushing through the last bits here) and should be easy to overhaul for when GR@W 2 rolls about. Just give me a couple hours and the update should be out.

Evilcherry, deploying Units mean moving them from your Unit Pool to a province you control. Moving already deployed Units (like the ones in your capital) costs no Admin Points. Also your current level of Warfare Technology is only 1, so your VVM-01 Garland has 2 more points than it should. Can you please fix that before the start of the next turn? (Also I should really review orders a lot more frequently to catch silly stuff like this).

Also working on the program has helped me figure out how horrible the combat in this game is. GR@W 2 should be marginally better in the fighting department. Marginally.

As per usual, let me know if I messed stuff up big-time. I'm pretty sure that I did.

Also Usec you forgot to remove the unused ace slot comment in my info. Is it just me or should labs be boosted in GR@W 2? Even like a 1 increase would help make them far more useful. They need a full AP to make and they only add 1 research I could be wrong but that's my opinion.

Shit. Should have moved the boat further then (or could you let me retcon that?).

Remove the Defense and Accuracy part from the Garland.

Move Group 1 to Mercury Orbit, or Me2 if possible and needed to colonize Me2.

Colonize Me2 (if possible) V6 (if not)
Colonize V5

All extra production to Garlands.

Research next level of Admin, then pour all else to industry.
