Well, if I'm holding all the territories between him and Azthor, Azthor does kinda have to deal with me first before he can actually do anything to venus, right?
No you're on the other side. You're technically blocking evil from adwarf but not Azthor if I'm reading that map right and I'm pretty sure I am and if I read it even more it's quicker for Azthor to go through Venus than mercury to attack you. I guess if you take those four territories on the other side you might slow him down. Still I'm not going to help you with your strategy either way. What I've said is common sense nothing more. Also remember Azthor isn't the only player who wants you gone.

And don't forget that people can just fly around planets if they so desire.

True if Azthor makes something with enough space movement he can just fly past all of your defenses.

Not if I put in enough units in the one gap in those defenses.

Yet another scientific inaccuracy that bugs me in this mecha game.

Which are the other ones? I assume the fact that we're only using half of all the planets would be one. The other would be that somehow everything is on one plane and that in real life you'd be able to approach any given spot from so many different.... vectors? Approaches? Directions? fuck it whatever works. Those are the ones that I can think of what're yours?

Giant robots.

Well to be fair in space giant robots might work. On land...... not so much.

The latter is pretty okay, actually, given the scale of the system map. The former isn't bad, either, given that farther-out worlds are rather chilly. More things like the mechanics of the mechs/vehicles and the scale of the system. And how owning only a single space station gives you no less research than controlling the entire Earth.

The latter one I'm not still fully okay on but to fix it would require a 3d map and not a lot of people are good at thinking in full 3d (actually that would apply to the first part too). Part of it though I have to admit to not being bad is the fact that our solar system is almost flat by some mind boggling luck. I admit the science to area makes no sense. (Actually that sentence doesn't make a whole lot of sense either I'm just too lazy to think of a better one)

Spoiler: Knight H.A.S. (click to show/hide)

Edit: USEC I think Fleet 3 isn't supposed to exist because I didn't have a 3rd millepatte available to create it though I did have the Arrows.

Edit Edit:

Better say, if you let me take Venus, I can turn a blind eye to your wars. Just saying.

I like how, out of all of the inaccuracies in the game, sound strategic advice is the first one you point out. :P

I'll agree that some of the mechanics for combat/Units don't make a lot of sense, partly because this is a game based on giant robot animes, and partly because my mechanics can be shitty at times. Still, that's what GR@W 2 is for, eh? And if you have any suggestions/ideas on how to improve things, I'd love to hear them.

I am going to disagree about the correlation between land size and research capacity though. Europe is only a small part of the world, but they (more or less) managed to surpass everyone technologically for a couple centuries. Besides, I'd rather not have research related to empire size due to balance issues. If the largest empire had the most research, then it's obviously unstoppable since it can produce large numbers of Units that are several levels above everyone else. It's not terribly fun when it happens, trust me.

Whoops. Thought I caught that before. Fixed.

Considering your actions in recent times, we would be grateful to accept such an alliance. Furthermore, if you have any requests of us, we will try to provide for them.

Also Usec, I do think revising it so that a unit needs a point of attack for an ace to benefit from it (And same with defence). And speaking of defence, maybe it would be worthwhile to make it a 1d2 per point or something? Anything to make defence more... useful.

If we're going to be making this scientifically accurate, we can't have mecha. Therefore we shouldn't worry too much about scientific accuracy. (Which was the point of bringing up that this was a mecha game.)

By sheer chance. Eurasia as a whole was always ahead, due to factors like axis direction, availability of domesticable species, and (believe it or no) size; the fact that Europe was ahead of Asia for a while had mainly due to (Warning! Generalizations ahead!) with the fact that the Asians conquered up to Europe before having their warlord die and so everyone had to go home to vote, then the Chinese emperors went on a conservative streak letting Europe leap ahead. Eurasia's size was one of the big factors in letting it get as massive as it did; no region of the New World optimal for advanced civilization was the size of even Europe, which meant they could support more people even if they had the same animals and such.
More importantly, while it doesn't matter much if we're contrasting between, say, Europe and the Midwest, it matters a lot if we're contrasting, say, North Korea and the entire democratic world. Or a handful of colonies totalling up to maybe a couple million, and the entire Earth of several billion. Little places simply can't support as many researchers, as many labs, as many particle accelerators, etc.

True enough. Which is why I brought it up in "realism issues" and not "balance issues".
